Yeah... Let´s see the opposite way. Another retirement for Vettel or Webber plus a victory by Alonso and the WDC will be over.

Like in Korea 2010? It's not over till it's over.

Alonso is such a joy to watch. He was certainly pushing throughout the entire race as per his running wide on two occasions, but never ragged like Vettel got during the middle of the race. All that early-season damage limitation is paying off in bundles.

Alonso really did a good job today (as always) holding off two faster cars. If there's a person who can do this it is him, very happy to have him at Ferrari.

Totally true. The part where he defended against Hamilton from unlapping him was playing chess at a high level. He was helped a bit by a higher top speed but it was a very good trick to keep a buffer to Vettel and Button.

This is from the interview of Andrea Stella on the Italian television:

Interviewer: How did you feel when HAM unlapped himself. Were you worried?
Andrea Stella: To be honest i was not. We were not pushing and we knew we could have gone faster(if necessary) with Fernando. HAM and ALO have a great relationship recently so we were confident nothing strange could have happened.

_
Very mature and intelligent drive today. Looking at Massa's times in LT, Ferrari is may be the best car now. MAS was pulling away from HAM with the same tyres although they were a couple of laps younger. If the other teams don't react in the next races, the WDC will be over and it will not a crime if ALO wins it this year. It will deserve it. But i want to think it's not over yet.

I'm really enjoying Fernando's driving,great stuff.He's relentless,kinda like Armstrong without doping.

After Lewis I wouldnt want anyone else to win WDC.

Yeah, you're right. If either Vettel or Fernando win this year, then they can have a shot at MS's record. Vettel, if he wins this year, will have a shot at his 5-in-a-row record. At the moment LH is behind these two guys and with the way things are playing out at McLaren, I doubt his chances.

I really do not believe anyone is breaking Michael's 7 World Championships.... That was something extremely special.

I can see Alonso winning 4 or 5 championships if all goes well. Same with Vettel. It shows you something about Michael.

And the most impressive thing is Alonso did all this in a complete dog of a car!

In all seriousness, many congratulations to him. Alonso has delivered the most impressive half season I have seen in F1. No mistakes, seized every opportunity, maximised his results. On this form no one deserves the championship more, and that's coming from a Lewis Hamilton fan. I don't want Vettel to win the championship and I don't think Hamilton can now, so I hope Alonso keeps it up. I feel he has to put a foot wrong at some point but if he doesn't it will be the most richly deserved championship I can recall.

What Alonso is doing is reminding me of Schu in 1998 season. Drving the wheels off of the car that is not the quickest...

Same here. I used to be an Alonso fan way back when, but then of course there was 2007. All in the past now though, and it's nice to see Lewis and Fernando getting along so well. Lewis would do well to look to Fernando for inspiration.

Same here, except Schumacher. But that's not going to happen I presume :p Alonso is driving in a really mature fashion and has his act together. The rest has to deal with it and it's the question if the field can claw him back before it's too late.

1) Including 2005 make the rest of your post garbage. Did you watch 2005? Bridgestone cars were not in the same league. Fair and square my ass. What about 2001, 2003 and 2004 where MS beat him fair and square? I guess you can count 7 vs 2!!!

His 7 titles and the way in which he won more than half of them, null and void him as the greatest.

Bridgestone suffered in 2006 through handicapping their partners in favour of Michael in previous years. Michael won 3 championships with superior tyres, he and you can't have it both ways. It had to come to an end when Bridgestone's partners bailed out.

I ask everyone on these forums to imagine one driver this season on superior pirellis to everyone else, and claim you now have the best driver. Most people today would null and void a driver winning a championship on 'better' tyres to everyone else.

Michael has not won as many races as Alonso in 'not the best car' Alonso therefore is the better racing driver.
Also, you wont find anyone within F1, who will claim Michael's competition for his titles was as good as it is today.
Michael's 2nd greatest rival that he won titles against, was Damon Hill. Schumacher's days were numbered as soon as Renault built a half decent car and even then, they had to have their tyres and suspension redesigned half way through.

Harp on about 7 titles and all the glory that it covers you in as a fan. But theres no doubt in my mind Vettel would have won exactly the same number had he been in Michael's shoes, i.e Senna, Prost and Mansell all gone. Competing with Williams number 2's and later having unprecedented treatment, never to be seen again in this sport.

Judging by 2006., Fernando will grab this one, he is master of guarding the lead and I'll be banging my head because I didn't bet 100€ on him at start of season (I had a hunch he would win WDC early this season :) )

Hmm Fernando is sitting pretty now
Show how important it was the hard work with the uncompetitive car early in the season

One more strong result and hopefully Felipe with good points and the team can go on holiday very relaxed

Alonso is still in the 5th best car, I wouldn't put money on it until Ferrari are ahead of either McLaren on Red bull.

There are 2 of each, making Ferrari 5th and 6th. Jenson is convinced Mclaren have the 2 best cars. Red Bull still look better.

Button is simply too far away, Hamilton looks a bit demotivated now with all the bad luck and McLaren mistakes this season, also McLaren is very inconsistent with tyres. Ferrari is now probably 2nd best car behind RBR, maybe even equal best. Webber is too inconsistent to win title in my opinion at least, so only real threat is Vettel. And he has 44 points gap.

Also, Fernando looks great this season, he himself says he has never been physically in better shape, and I think he is very determined to win his 3rd title. Of course, everything can change, and given that my hunch is usually wrong I'm quite surprised how this season is going :)

Unlike Schumacher Alonso's (on track) conduct has been pretty well blemish free.

For all I deplored Alonso's conduct within the McLaren team, and think he should have been penalised for benefiting from the Briatore-Piquet Singapore race fix I recognise Alonso is probably the best most complete driver it terms of skill and tactical intellect.

Talking about intellect:

Alonso acknowledged that Vettel's dice with Hamilton had been handy for him, and that he would have swiftly let the McLaren past if necessary.

"I knew that if Lewis was close enough with the DRS and trying to overtake, I had no problem to leave the space," said Alonso. "I knew he was not in the race. We didn't want to risk anything. For me it was a good position to have Hamilton between me and Sebastian.

"Having Hamilton there it meant Sebastian was 2.5s behind approaching the pitstop, so I tried to keep Lewis there."

Indeed, if Fernando is strong at something (apart from being relentless and his race pace) is his smart and tactical driving. Awesome stuff to watch

Earlier this year Christian Horner said that it was certain that Alonso would hit some kind of dip in form sooner or later.

Yet when was the last time Alonso had a bad race? Spa 2010? Since then he's been largely flawless and he looks almost invincible at the minute.

There is, unfortunately it's full of bitter people complaining that they can't understand Italian :rotfl: Not that I can, but it makes me smile that these guys can stick it to the brash bigots who demand an English only culture for some arbitrary reasons. There used to be a time where being multilingual was seen as a gift, now some people see it as rudeness.

Typical Alonso, always calm, always in control, I wonder if the team is already used to Fernando being the one who calm them and not the other way around like with many other drivers in the grid.

Alonso still cautius

“It’s halfway through the season; we made a very good recovery when you think of where we started in the Jerez test, where we were maybe two seconds off the pace. In Australia we were 1.6s [off] in Q2 and now we are very happy with the points that we have achieved in the first half, but it means nothing, because there are still another ten races in which we need to improve the car.

“We need to be consistent and we need to keep finishing all the races. One or two drivers always don’t finish the race because of mechanical problems or incidents or something, so we need to avoid these problems.”
