Just to refresh memory "Alonso in action" from 2011

Last year he was great here started 8th , jumped 3 cars in the start then he passed Hamilton , Massa, Rosberg and was leading the race, that was something!.

Unlucky but lucky at the same time, after seeing the onboard and how the Lotus went over the Ferrari...

Poor guy minding his own business when a car comes flying on top his his one! In all seriousness though that was a nasty accident so relieved no serious injuries.

I'm not going to waste any inch of my energy crying, I'm glad Fernando it's ok, he went from 40 points advantage to 24, it's bad but it could have been worse. Let's hope everything goes better in Monza :(.

He is not injured and still with a full race advantage on points with the rest of the contenders. The car looked good here and the good news is that we have another race next weekend. Podio in Monza should be the target.

Yes, thank heavens for that. As for the DNF, these things happen. Roll on Monza.

+1

Couldn't have said it better myself. Keeping the big picture(life) in mind, today was a better day than it could've been. Totally happy Fernando is ok. Fernando will be striving to go very well at Monza.

He had the scariest view of the incident. So glad none of them were hurt. I can imagine Alonso in particular had brown pants after the start.

So glad he walked away unscathed. His championship has been dented but if anyone can pull it off, it's Fernando.

OK, just watched the press conference of Fernando, he has some pain in the back but he it's ok, he was very calm and positive, he didn't blame Grosjean directly but he said that he had a lot of first lap incidents but this it's the GP2 "culture" and they come with that baggage to F1. He was a little sad for the record but he said that he will try in the next 24 races, he also said that his approach for the championship doesn't change.

Gif of the start.

http://localhostr.co...Wvxglx/gi1f.gif

Great start, he got both Saubers, but he was too vulnerable reaching the apex, so technically he could have been 4th or 3rd going through eau-rouge.

Honestly, there was a moment there when he was still in the car and not moving when I thought I'd just seen another Senna. I'm not the biggest Alonso fan but glad he's okay.

I just have to say if this was your 20+ something-year-old Alonso speaking, he would have said something else. Thumbs up for maturity.

and am very (very!) glad he's ok.

I am scared of a collision at the start...

We all felt it coming, didn't we? With Maldonado/Hamilton/Grosjean right behind Fernando....

Good points: Monza and Singapore coming up, both of which could suit Ferrari/Fernando very nicely. Even two wins are not off the charts, IMHO.

Many of us have said here that Alonso was due some bad luck at some point. It happens to everyone. Some argued that that was nonsense and statistical probability proves nothing. Unfortunately the pessimists were proved right.
Glad that Alonso is ok and his response in the above interview is very mature. It would be great if he could bounce back in Monza with a strong result. Such a shame what happened today, though: I'm pretty sure he would have had the pace to finish 2nd which would have given him a great buffer in the WDC. But that's life.

I liked he fact that Alonso went back to he garage to watch the rest of the race with his mechanics instead of stomping out of the circuit. That shows maturity and leadership. It was a great way to rally his troops by coming back and showing he was still here.

Looking at the title position now, obviously the Red Bull drivers and Raikkonen have closed the gap but the McLaren seems to be the most competitive car once again. The amount of damage done to the championship lead depends on whether it is McLaren or Red Bull or Raikkonen who emerge as the biggest threat.

I think McLaren are the biggest threat to win lots of races, and the gap back to Lewis is still 47 points and the gap to Button is 63 points (so those two are only 16 points apart).

Vettel is being very Alonsoesque in gathering points from unpromising situations. He is a big threat for the championship, but at least he does not have the dominant car. He may not be able to reel off a series of wins (hopefully), but it will be a sort of stealth competition between FA and SV. I am not sure if KR will be able to stay in it, and MW did not score that heavily today but who knows.

I agree with you. McLaren are the biggest threat and considering they have won the last 2 races Alonso might need some upgrades for that car...but as of today...I have to say the McLaren is the class of the field and LH is really a threat if they can get it tigether. if the bulls and raikonen finish ahead of alonso but behind the McLarens the the macs will win everything......but lets see

I liked that too. I'm glad that he is ok and in good spirits for Monza.

I was in a terrible accident a few years back where a mini van, skipping the traffic light, knocked the entire front of my Z4 clean off. The roof was open as well so I can imagine what he felt like immediately afterwards. I was dazed for days.

Ferrari need to work on their quali pace. Massa showed again today that they have a very very good race car capable of challenging at any circuit.

Fernando,

Just glad Ferrari's future champion has his health!

Even just barely completing the first turn, you proved again moving from 5th to 3rd that you ALWAYS charge forward, giving MAXIMUM effort!

The Tifosi wait to embrace you in 1 weeks time in Monza, and that will certainly lift your spirits! You still have almost a full race points gap on the rest of the field, so don't despair as you have more victories awaiting you this season! What happened to you, Lewis and the Sauber-Ferrari drivers today was very unfortunate, but you will bounce back and race to the front. Felipe was able to show the performance of the F2012, so we look forward to seeing what you can do with that improving beast before Ferrari's Rabid Fans!

FORZA ALONSO!

Lost points should be the least of the worries Alonso came close to being decapitated had that Lotus been more angled to the left Alonso probably wouldn't be here right now. The last time I remember an accident this dangerous was back in Abu Dhabi 2010 when Schumacher almost got killed by Liuzzi prior to that it would be Webbers massive shunt in Valencia that same year.

Honestly Alonso isn't my favourite driver but thank god he wasn't killed in that crash. His racing is great to watch I love it when he and the McLarens are dueling for victory

Agreed on pretty much all points, but the crash is over now--it's time to look to the next race and the championship. Alonso used to be my least-favourite on the grid but he's earned a lot of respect from me this year for his leadership, his attitude, and some amazing driving over the last two years.

And I just realised I said 'Spa' in my previous post when I meant 'Monza'. :drunk:

I'm worried about the Monza as well. Alonso was complaining of back pain and I'm afraid he may still not be fully fit for Monza. I hope he is..

kosmos there are 2 possibilities - either you break down and never deliver again or it makes you stronger. Like I was afraid of a crash in the first corner in Spa, I have the feeling that he will destroy them all in Monza now
