When you are older you will understand that most of the time you're wrong when you think you are the first one who has come up with some idea or argument.

Being older, I understand that many people have a habit of ignoring ideas or arguments that don't line up with their initital ideas, but I will trust you, and hope that trust will not be broken, that those issues have been decently argued to a close.

Ok guys, it's likely to be a "fun" day regardless of how the race turns out. Like most of the moderating team I'd like to enjoy the race, you can help by reporting pathetic trolling or baiting instead of responding.

Let us deal with the flotsam and I hope that people can be adult no matter what goes on.

Good luck & thanks in advance!

Watch it, you never know what will happen in sport. That's the beauty of it! If you miss it, you may regret it like those Man City fans who walked out on their team at the eleventh hour . Or like in Indycar, Hunter-Reay chasing fourth after Power crashed out early.

Vettel has had 2 reliability issues - first while leading in Valencia, and second in Monza. Both led to retirements and both because of alternators' issues.

He also had to retire in Malaysia because of an incident with a backmarker while chasing Lewis Hamilton for a podium finish.

Yeah I forgot the Monza alternator issue but I wouldn't call Malaysia a reliability problem. Lewis has definitely had the worst luck of the season, IMHO. And I think comparing the two is unfair. On the flip side I would sy Fernando has been amongst the most lucky but obviously had one reliability issue of his own and some bad luck. I would say Fer & Seb about even out but neither compare to the luck of Lewis.

Fernando has been reprogrammed to win this championship, we can't lose  , jokes aside, 2 hours to go.

He can only do his best today, and that is what we need from him.

For others? We need the F1 gods to have a say in it, and they might be busy today.

 Fernando only responsability is to do as best as he can, Vettel in the other hand has to win.

Indeed. Two goals in the stoppage time, that was mad. I ll watch it, but not because I believe that he has a chance, but because I want to face the defeat like a man. Sth I couldn't do in 2010

Interesting interview with Fernando during the truck parade - not hoping for rain because it would be too unpredictable, not nervous because that would not help him, he will not get crazy just because of it and enjoy the race!

More Lewis-fan goodwill from me too. I'm wearing my McLaren Alonso shirt and hat for luck today to add to all the Ferrari goodwill. Oh god I hope he wins!

You are right about habits of ignorance, and nobody is safe from that. And I won't guarantee that the issues you are interested in were laid to rest in a depth that satisfies you. But IMHO it's bad form to jump into a thread and pretend to bring the light of truth to people who have been roaming the thread in darkness and ignorance for years. (And for the record, it's just as bad when people do it in other long-standing threads).

Anyway, no hard feelings, let's enjoy a cracker of a race deciding a fabulous season. The better team may win, and whoever wins is the better team.

Disappointed for Alonso, his best season ever and three points behind the winner. Spa and Suzuka really destroyed his title.

My heart goes out to Alonso. I'm not going to call Vettel a lucky champion because he and the team have done very well but he was ****ing lucky today. Many a car has been completely destroyed by less contact than that.

Best season of Alonso's career in my opinion.

This season reminded me a lot of 1993. Prost was the champ but Ayrton was without a doubt the best driver that year

It just wasn't meant to be. At one moment in the race (nearing the end), I was almost certain he would take it. But in the end it played out differently.

To quote a tweet I just saw on twitter: 'Fernando Alonso. Legend, Man of Honour, Captain, Icon. This man racing a car is art. #F1' Couldn't agree more there.

What a great season. Keeping the fight until the last lap...
As an Alonso fan(boy), I am sure the bond Ferrari/Alonso is now stronger than ever. The both will work hard this winter to finally get the reward in 2013.
Massa in the podium and driving a fantastic race today is a very good thing, too.
Well done Fernando, if he keeps this form into the next season I am sure we will be celebrating the title next year.

Thank you, again Fernando, you are truly awesome.

Pretty much, that will hurt because without it Seb wouldn't have been close.

Alonso's fans should be happy that he is driving in his prime - probably 2-3 years of this to come.

Gutted. Such grace and control shown on the podium, he astounds me. Class all the way. And to top it all, what sounded like genuine kindness and appreciation of a season of amazing driving shown by Fernando from Nelson Piquet of all people.

Ah well. Better luck next year. :(

So apparently Vettel overtook Kobayashi under yellows. Sky is confirming it.

If Ferrari files a protest , then there is some hope of a Vettel penalty.

Anybody else hearing anything

I don't think so.

I'm proud of Fernando, there is no shame losing a fight when you gave your best, and he certainly did. Thats F1, some things are just not in your control, no matter how hard you fight. For me, he is the real winner here anyway.

You know what, I hope nothing comes of this (speaking as an FA fan). It's not how I want the championship to be decided.

Was never a big Alonso fan until this season. He has proved that is he one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time, and best in the field. What he did this year in a car that was maybe 4th or 5th best was amazing, mind blowing. Ferrari would have been no where without him this year. It's to bad that he lost out to a superior car instead of a superior driver.

Great season with a bitter end, his eyes after he stepped out of the car said it all. He was a 2013 Champion for few laps at least. 2 times WDC and 3 times 2nd is also something to be proud of. Congratulations!

That is just so sad. Hopefully you can some day find it in your heart to acknowledge that RB8 did not drive for itself. MW is a class better than Flippy and yet he only managed 5th.
