Anyone else tired of Schumi crashing the car?

I would if these had happened during qualifying or race. As long as he crashes it on FP2, to then qualify and take to finish positions where W03 don't deserve, then I have no problem with it.

Anyway I agree, they should be ashamed of how bad the car is. Race pace is worse than everyone except Force India, TR and the new teams.

Maybe this is his secret way to make them put something new on the car - destroy the lot of old front wings for example :)

Not really and I don't see why you would be, he's done it a couple of times yes but you're not footing the repair bill are you?

Not expecting anything from this race. I think they will struggle to stay in the top 10 this time.

Cool 1.5s off the pace, what do they expect having the same car for 4-5 races without any updates???!!! Worst team.

This seems bloody awful for Mercedes. What a mess they've put themselves in.

I think we can call this weekend a complete fail. As for the team. I think they are a complete joke. Going from one of the fastest at the start of season. To back of mid field. Very poor.

I often wonder what goes on at Mercedes HQ.

Somehow i cannot believe that in one race, they have gone back this much! There must be something we are not seeing, there should be something fundamentally wrong that has happened in 1 weekend. I thought Ross said they needed 0.5 secs, from this point in the weekend, its more like they need 1.5 secs!

What tyres they used in long runs? Softs? So, now they do fast laps with 18-19 laps old tyres?

They used mediums, went in and changed to softs to do a supposedly qualifying run, but funnily enough, it looked like they still had race fuel!! :rotfl:

That would be a disaster, although I know you are not serious here. In the end, pretty much only one loser can join the sidelines together with the new teams.

1.3-1.4s off the pace. They were so close together that I cannot imagine they are not on the limit.

They even looked to be on low-fuel on their 'fast' laps as the change of direction was good.

I, for one, think they were heavily testing new stuff this morning and they needed to gather a lot of data for their summer reading... in fact Costa was even in the garage to make sure they were recording the good stuff!
so while it looks awful I believe they're fully geared for rain tomorrow and not too worry about grid's position, wait and see

Yeah, there must be a reason for these slow times. The Merc can be faster than this for sure...
Still, I can't understand why they didn't try a fast lap just to see how the balance is.

Compared to yesterday's sector times there is no progress. Usually the cars improving. Rosberg did a 30.0 in sector 2 on the medium compound in the first free practice and today's best from both 30.0 on the soft compound. Either more fuel or something went terribly in the wrong setup direction.

I also think that Nico and Michael were doing different things during their long runs earlier in the session. Maybe testing new things or subtle changes in development directions over the summer...who knows? Costa was there perhaps as an overseer......
But I do feel that their very last sprint on the softs was preparation for later in the evening. The drivers seemed to be on the limit as they were dancing around each others' times. At this rate with presumably most things working at or near maximum should they even look beyond Q1? Perhaps saving tyres as early as Q1 maybe the call sign for Mercedes this Hungarian GP.

I really would like to believe this, but why both, not just one driver, while second one prepares quali set-up?

I agree, I mean everyone is happy when mercedes is fast on friday/saturday, makes people feel good on these days, then only sunday can dsappoint, now maybe all 3 days looks disappointing based on fri/sat, but with no testing now, remember gp weejends are testing, practice sessions are testing.

Remember we've had 2 gps before this, silverstone, hockenheim where rain occured before sunday, making prepations almost lottery. Everyone is kinda behind, Kim for example has just found something on the car/set up that he likes, I still see this season as a incrediable difficult one for teams to find a momentum.

It's clear merc are trying to find speed, but the last 2 gp weekends might as well have been wet gps given the sessions lacked dry running, not ideal for testing parts. Even then, we'll see.

We won't be in 17/18 in qualifying, both through to Q2 at least. Probably Q3, great drivers and a team that is capable... this morning wasn't a real representation.

Edit: said Q1 meant Q3.

Lets hope so but imo anything less than Q3 is a disaster here of all places.

I followed the session closely and noticed Mercedes were on quite a different program to anybody else. They did a lot of running compared to other teams (30 laps).

Basically they did an 18 lap stint on mediums and a 12 lap stint on softs. Schumacher was noticeably slower during the initial laps, but then caught up with Rosberg's pace, so I believe he started on full tanks, whereas Rosberg was slightly lighter. They were clearly much heavier than anyone else at this point and seemingly testing something under Aldo Costa's close look.

Unlike some drivers, neither Schumacher nor Rosberg set fast times on a short stint.

I believe they were trying to address their main problem, which is high fuel load pace. However, I was a bit surprised they didn't go for a genuine qualifying attempt at the end.

While not looking good, I'm pretty much sure the times are skewed and they will make it into Q2 at least. Q3 is another story...

I find myself being on the brink of feeling sorry for Mercedes GP (and Rosberg & Schumacher). All those tech-heads, and all that talk of having progressed even more on the tyre-side, only to get to the next race struggling.....

They seem to have a chance into getting into top 10.

They said they were compromising qualifying for race set up to make the tires last longer (N. Haug to BBC)

Fine by me if they can do a sauber or lotus. Qualify bad but climb towards podium in the race. I doubt they have the race pace tho.

Bad middle sector, Schumacher 17th.

Personal best for Schumacher but then he got baffled by the dust and lifted, ran wide and done for.

Bitterly disappointing for Mercedes, Rosberg top of the two and only 13th. Fresh rubber tomorrow... but... does it matter.

It was still better than 17th. 29,3 was his first sector. Still they don't have race pace. Even P10 in Q , they will finish out of top 10 in the end.
