Do drivers get some kind of a Report Card on the test with performance mark up?

TRIPLE DRS?

You've got to be KIDDING me?

And Brawn even admits that it's uselful "at some tracks" only???

Great development strategy, Merc. Kudos for investing in what may result in a good one-off race, a technology that isbanned for 2013 anyway.
Yeah, pump all your engineers into projects that may make you look good over a weekend or two, rather to develop something you can build next year's car on.

Or do they think that the ban on double DRS does not apply to a triple DRS? :rotfl:

yes, they do, the element which makes it triple is the same as the lotus 'device', which is a passive fduct, totally legal for next year as well.

A passive double/triple DRS isn't banned next year, not sure where you heard that from. Lotus and Merc are both investing in it as they believe it will work in the races as well as qualy.

That's the second Fin to make a comeback this season. First Raikkonen, now this.

Edit: It's been 10 mins or so since I saw pRy's post and I have only just clocked onto the 'We're going to need a bigger boat' reference. Shark fin, jaws. Duh.

So did I, but I think it was actually how close to the rear wing they could be placed that was mandated so that they couldn't be used for the F-duct.

A response on F1 technical: 'to reduce yaw effects'.

It might help to make the flow at the rear less turbulent in yaw conditions, which could aide the effectiveness of the coanda exhaust.
Or it may only have an effect on the effectiveness of the rear wing in yaw conditions.

Shark fins are back! Merc test a fin at the YDT, they help the flow to the rear wing and reduce yaw

I feel very positive. They are testing a range of new parts, hopefully having awesome results to put them in the race win hunt.

I feel Schumacher's decision will be based on these test results whether Mercedes could develop the car when it wants. I don't know but october deadline gotta mean something. Schumacher's presence during tests are also intriguing. He didn't look like to me that he's planning to retire soon.

Or in parallel universe, he's preparing himself for a management role, hence the observation of tests.

I have been wondering about his presence there as well, but could not come up with anything plausible other than he could be simply interested to obtain feedback on technical updates. Memory and accuracy of the feedback right after a drive could be somewhat more pristine than at later date.

Probably a stupid question, but what does "Yaw" mean?

Possible solutions that I can offer are two fold. One is painful, other one painless.

1. Learn German in a hurry.
or,
2. Try Bing.

A shame that the developments have come after the half way point in the season. Maybe it has taken a couple of races to develop but from race 4-5 onwards, it should of been clear that Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull were onto something.

In their defence, I think they knew full well that there was some benefit to be had from the system. But I recall Ross or someone senior stating that they were concerned how the heat would affect the tyres. And with their tyre situation being what it is ("was" hopefully), I can kinda see his point.

Brawn admitted at the Italian GP that the team had perhaps focused too much recently on understanding tyres, rather than bringing developments like the Coanda exhaust, which had meant it falling behind its rivals.

Oh, men, it was obvious. I hate when they find things like that after that fans.

Brawn ends up saying that the new exhaust might solve the tire problems because of the increased down force which makes a mockery of the understanding the tires exercise. This isn't the first time that Mercedes has been late to adapt a winning technical development:EBD, DRS, 3 element front wing. I want to see the Mercedes' drivers fighting for wins again.

Makes you wonder why they invest so much resources into solution that will be "significant" only in once race... Doesn't make much sense when you think about it. That would mean Brawn's claims about helping the tyre management must be true

A lot of faith and curiosity si going into upgrades for Singapore. I do not wish to be cynical, but I hope it is not going to be one of those terrible weekends, and we have Hungary 12 behind us for good. I am nervous, but ready.

..."Mercedes now plans to fit the new exhaust layout to both Schumacher and Rosberg's cars in Friday practice in Singapore.

If the testing proves successful, then the team will commit to racing it on the Marina Bay circuit too."...
http://www.autosport...t.php/id/102642

they looks careful but on Friday morning cars are about 3/4s slower than Q2 for the bests... I hope it works!

By 2012 standards if Michael shall place in top ten during FPs 1 and 2, and top six in FP 3, then it would look pretty hopeful for quali, which in this town, like in Monaco, could be important, to state obvious.

Q: Can you tell us what new parts?
NR: Ah, here it gets interesting… (laughs) New exhausts, for example. That should help with more contact pressure and hence support the aero side. I tried it on Monday in the simulator and that was really kind of strange, because you do your simulator work and then you get told that your engineers will put the new exhausts on the ‘virtual’ car. They type some numbers into the computer and there you go - the new parts are on the car! And you really feel it - it is just like in reality how the car has changed. It is unbelievable what you can do these days. You can simulate more side wind, you can simulate tyre degradation - and you really do feel it.

Let's wait how it pans out.

exactly my thoughts
As I was understanding they were removing front df because of lacking rear df..now if they solved the latter they may have more freedom at the front of the car

There might be no dry run today, that's a shame because Mercedes cannot test the new package properly and it means we won't see the new package on Saturday and Sunday.

Outside top 10.
