Eggtimers? Not really.
At that time, published speeds from Brooklands were almost always expressed to two decimal places. So there would be a 1% chance of hitting a seemingly round number.
At least we aren't looking at results from before 1914, which were frequently published in terms like "seven sixteenths" or "five ninths"....!

I'll study those results over the next few days and see what I can find to contribute.
A couple of points to go on with:
1) Where your 1930 results and mine differ, I am sure yours are right. As I said, I couldn't find my original list and had to try and piece together what I could from a variety of other sources
2) I'll look into the Howe/Callingham situation. I thought they were classified, even though they had lost many laps in the pits. But that would make 27 classified, and you and I seem to agree on 26
3) Before Barry or Ray or someone else from their part of the world gets too excited: Joan Richmond was Australian ;)

This is William Scott, popularly known as "Bummer" - indeed so popularly known that Sheldon's got "Bummer" recorded in the big black books. But William it most definitely was.

My results are also made from many pieces and sources so I don't consider them as quite reliable.
As for Howe/Callinghem in 1929, one source has classified, the other that I prefered has not classified. My 26 classified is nice but I have also finishers - 26, but if I count them, they are 28 altogether (I think the not classified Riley with no drivers listed is at least a little doubtful, and also some sources may claim as finisher only classified finishers).

I've found in an old issue of the magazine Motor Sport (June 1965), E.B. Ware and riding-mechanic Allchin, in a Morgan Aero model Jap-powered were involved in a serious accident during the 1924 J.C.C. 200-Mile Race. The words of the article are: "… Ware had got going again, lapping probably at over 85 m.p.h., but on his 33rd lap his rear wheel appeared to be wobbling… Two more laps and the Morgan suddenly swerved as it was crackling across the Fork, hit the fence and spun round, flinging aot the occupants before it overturned. There's a photograph of Ware's crashed car halfway down this page and the accompanying text says that he recovered. Unfortunately further down the same page it says that he suffered a fatal crash in 1924.
I've searched the GRO Death Index for the year following the crash and there is no E. B. Ware there. Anyone know what the E. B. stood for?

E.B. was Edward Ware. From contemporary Autocar reports, he seems to be referred to colloquially as "Eddie" more often than not. All I have is that the 1924 JCC 200 was the last event he competed in but I've no information as to his date of death.

In his History of Brooklands Motor Course WB describes Ware's injuries as 'a compound fracture in both arms and severe concussion'. Unpleasant, but not life-threatening, I would think.

According to the book "JAP The vintage years" by Jeff Clew, on page 198 chapter ten, E.B. Ware and his riding mechanic Tom Allchin suffered several injuries in the 1924 Brooklands accident,
Allchin sustaining minor abrasions.
This is part of the text:
<<... both Ware's arms were broken, and a leg badly smashed, skull fractured, left eye nearly gouged out and his jaw bone driven through his cheek. At one stage he was taken for dead and covered with a blanket, until his mechanic realized otherwise. He was rushed to hospital and worked on by surgeons for more than 10 hours, after which he made a slow but quite miraculous recovery. But it brought to an end his racing career and JAP lost a valuable member of their experimental staff...>>

All these were with Alvis vehicles - entered means that he was entered in the race, probably competed, but I don't know the placing.
I too have the March Handicap details, with other cars competing and the handicaps if you want the details, plus further details from the above events I mentioned. PM me if you want the full details....
