We had a full F1 grid in Le Mans this year (former F1 drivers).

In which year were the most drivers with F1 experience driving at Le Mans?

Probably throughout the 1950s and 1960s

In 1956 for example there were more than 25 - and a good proportion of them were F1 drivers at the time

Just a quck count without much checking for the 1967 race: I found 31 drivers who had driven a F1 race at the time and 9 who did it later. Might have missed someone of course.

Weren't the end of the nineties years we saw the least drivers with F1 a/o GP experience race at Le Mans?

In the Fifties and Sixties the top drivers weren't just "F1 drivers". All F1 drivers raced in sportscars and other categories as well. They had to, a F1 seat didn't mean that you became a multi-millionaire in those days. F1 drivers usually had a seat in a team for the sportscar World Championship, which Le Mans was a part of.

For 2017 18 former F1 drivers are confirmed so far (2016 we had 21)

Barrichello and Fisichella are race winners (together 14 GP wins)

I think the races with most Gp wins on the grid were

You mean drivers who already won a GP right?

I suspect 1955 might rank high, as there were at least 8 winners including Moss and Fangio.

But you would want the wins as of Jun 1955, correct?

yes just the Grand Prix already won.

If so Michael Schumacher's attendence in 1989 or 1990 would have top the list...

Schumacher shared his Mercedes C11 with fellow Mercedes juniors Karl Wendlinger and Fritz Kreutzpointner at the 1991 Le Mans 24 Hours . They were the only Mercedes to finish , coming home in fifth place . Curiously the winning Mazda was driven by two drivers who were current Grand Prix drivers , Herbert and Gachot and another who had competed in Formula One , Weidler , albeit failing to qualify his Rial in ten attempts .
