As it is somewhere near 50 years since my first ever race, a case of nostalgia has struck. It was the 2nd Oran Park meeting [missed the 1st], however I can't remember the actual date.......does anyone know?
Greg
The second ever Oran Park meeting was 25 March 1962. Unfortunately I can't see you in the RCN report - were you driving a Beetle?

I was there! I was three weeks old, but I was there.
That was the first open meeting, I believe.
Anyway...

No doubt toting a camera, even then
I have trawled through my RCNs and have come up with these meetings for 1962, the first year.
Feb 18 - Closed Meeting (invited clubs MGCC, Manly-Warringah and Southern Districts (Sporting?))
March 25 - Closed Meeting (invited clubs North Shore, ARDC and Manly-Warringah)
May 13 - meeting listed in forthcoming events but no report or mention in subsequent articles. Probably not held.
July 1 - first Open Meeting (originally scheduled for July 29). Track was properly sealed for this meeting.
Sept 9
Nov 18 - a certain Greg Mackie bagged a second in the 8 lap Div 2 Touring and GT race

Nov. 18th makes sense, as I recall a warm day.....looks like a few months before my '50th', then.

You should manage to forget it all again by then...

I had to wait until I was seven to get a camera. That's when all the trouble started. I still have that Kodak Instamatic somewhere...
Greg, the noise would have been when my younger brother came along, in 1963.

I had that on very good authority from several people.
