Valencia was rather dreadful for midfield teams and this season there are repeat offenders that who habitually plow into other drivers, some of these drivers sometimes change wings 1-2 times in a race! How about giving a time or grid penalty for drivers who use more than 1.5 wings per race across three race weekends?

they already loose 10-15 seconds changing the damn wing, its penalty enough

It not a massive penalty if they're changing tyres while they're at it. Burno caused a collision but yet finished tenth and likewise Maldonado managed to cruise to the finishing line.

Sometimes you get lucky, most times you don't.

With the Pirelli's & DRS, the wonky wings are redundant in thier barn-door state.

Reduce the width again.

How about dropping DRS and Pirelli? :p

And reducing wing span as well. Currently they are just disproportionate.

And if somebody is unlucky enough to be involved in a number of collisions across said three races and on no occasion could the blame be conclusively laid at his door?

Sorry, no thanks.

Do away with them altogether - Much better idea.

They lose time and places on track as well when recovering back to the pits. The penalty of a broken wing is plenty, no need to add something that could just result in cars sitting in the garage rather than being raced.

The last thing we need is another reason for drivers NOT to battle with one another.

Indeed. The only thing wrong with the front wings is their ridiculous width, which makes them more likely to cause contact with a rear tyre in a standard slipstreaming overtake.

You forget how ridiculous the current cars can look with the disparity in wing sizes. Like DRS, just a leftover from regulations made under a different era to boost overtaking.

There's already hardly any collisions as it is, drivers know they can overtake and most drivers aren't pushing because of the tyres. F1 is at quite a low in terms of collisions recently, Valencia was an exception to the rule. The front wings are being reduced in width from 2014 onwards anyway so that'll reduce the things causing so many punctures and flying off everywhere.

so limited engines, limited gearboxes, next thing we'll limit the amount of wheel nuts the guys can use over a season
sorry, it's a crazy idea. let them race

Silverstone, after the 'quickly change the new wing to Vettel's car' saga.

After the British GP quali, where Seb got the new front wing, and Webber didn't.

edit - Oops, 10 mins since I opened this thread (and read it).. bit late.. but yeah..

Are there or have there ever been any stats on front wing usage per driver each year?

Doubt it. Many teams try different wings for one or both cars over the course of each weekend. Would be a silly stat to track.

Would be interesting to know the race day figures. I think the number would be far lower than many expect. I know I was expecting to see a lot more incidents when the size of the wing was increased.

I think FIA should restrict pauses between races as this obviously leads to a lot of peculiar (mildly put) threads.
