The video is now gone but Kravitz confirmed it was the older wing, visually you can see it is the older wing (look at the element just inboard of the endplate) and formula1.com had this to say:

http://www.formula1....12/871/976.html

No doubt people will point fingers about preferential treatment but I don't believe that's the case here. It's not like he hasn't had new developments put on the car straight away in his races so far. Raikkonen seems to be going with what he knows until he sees it is a benefit and might be using Grosjean as a bit of a test mule.

Old thread closed for technical reasons which should be clear to all. Please continue here.

James Allison, Lotus technical director
“The track itself will put plenty of energy through the tyres thanks to its layout of high speed corners and the abrasion of its surface. While we would be delighted if the UK managed one of its occasional heat waves, there’s certainly potential for the surface temperature to be cooler than Valencia. Low track temperatures would only cause us grief in qualifying, and if we can manage that ourselves rather than needing the track to heat up our tyres then it will be okay.

“The updates we used in Valencia went reasonably well. We had three or four bits that certainly improved matters and a couple of parts we’re still looking to improve. For Silverstone there are some additional tweaks on the car which only those with the very keenest eyes would notice, but we’re hoping they are a step in the right direction.

“It’s the first track for a while with challenging high-speed corners. Things went reasonably well for us in Mugello, Barcelona, Sepang and Melbourne, so we’re quite hopeful that the E20 will prosper.”

I don't expect very strong showing by Lotus in Silverstone, top5 at best.

I expect good things if they can make it to row 3 or better... I don´t have high hopes for that happening though. Only positive thing I can see for saturday is that Silverstone is a long circuit -with good layout too- to get tyres working as soon as first hot lap.

Any info on updates coming this weekend? They should definitely find a solution for the car operating effectively in low temperatures. Otherwise, they risk falling behind, just like Brawn in '09.

You mean failing behind just for this particular race or for the rest of the campaign?

From Allison words: “The track itself will put plenty of energy through the tyres thanks to its layout of high speed corners and the abrasion of its surface", you can conclude that bringing tyre into optimal temperature should (could) be an issue only in qualifications. Race pace is diffrent story. There was nothing wrong wih Lotus pace in cold China GP.

Its pretty obvious that the Lotus works the best when the temperature is in the hotter side and the tire compounds aggressive, which works in their favour because of their superior tire management.

Their podiums have all come in races where the temperatures were Hotter or/and tire degradation aggressive.

How many more of the remaining races will they get this advantage?

I think Lotus will get yet another podium or win this weekend... Layout suits well for E20 and I don't think cold conditions will make the suffer...hot would be advantage but cold is not too bad either.

There's plenty of colder races coming, so I meant for the rest of the campaign. Brawn had the same issue in 2009, mainly in qualifying.

As for Silverstone, the track's layout might help the E20 in the tyre warm-up situation.

Come on, it is not as simple as just cold vs hot weather. What Allison is talking about is: Tyre temperature inside the tire is a net balance of two things - the heat generated in the tyres because of the corners and the heat loss to surrounding based on the track/ambient temperature. This has a bearing on the heat retained inside the tyres. Silverstone is a fast sweeping circuit with constant change of directions. A circuit like this builds lot more heat into the tyres. I would even say this more than accounts for any cold temperature.

That is an interested point. I think we also saw this in Monaco where track temps were quite high, but Lotus performance was not that great - possibly because of the nature of the track which doesn't generate enough lateral loads to heat the tires up.

Every race I hear they're falling back in a development race. It's like a broken record since Monaco, yet they finish on podium while being joint fastest (Canada) or second fastest team (Valencia). Again: temperature or not they should be top 3 team in Silverstone with RB and McLaren.

Heat, Shmeat.
This is predominantly an aero track, and the E20 should be well suited for this.

From the forecast here http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2637827, looks like only FP1 is going to be dry.

I wonder how we would perform on a full-wet tires on a high-load circuit like Silverstone. I am thinking that while ambient, and track temps would be low, tire temps might not be that much of an issue, mainly because the wet tires generate temp much better as well. I have a feeling Kimi and Jenson might have good weekends due to their conservative driving styles.

Lotus to run the Batman Tumbler in Silverstone.

Should be the only car to finish the race, so finally they will get their 2012 win! ;-)

I do like when teams do movie tie-ins. Reminds us there there is a not so serious side to F1.

A shame they feel the need to use a bastardised version of last years car. I dislike cars that don't exist in their actual form when they were racing.

How do you come to that conclusion?

Kimi is a spitting image of Bruce Wayne, likes to party privately, but when he's doing his job he is dead serious.

Romain has funny hair and smiles so much it's a bit freakish.

Not a shame, it was more beautiful. It´s like this F1 related promos where they still use V10 sound as a background. In fact, if they grabbed a mid 2000´s car with slicks and the Lotus paintwork, it would have been even better :p

Pace seems good.

Grosjean had slightly dryer track than Hamilton. Button and Kimi out at the same time
