Crazy decisions.

maybe not for so long :)
+ Maldo is paying 46mln per season x) about gro, he might be on his way out imo, if Coca-cola is really big sponsor

He would have crossed the finish line on time for another lap. I wonder why they didn't do it (tyres?, something else?)

Taking into consideration how things looked after Q1, it's not that bad

I thought he did cross the line and start his last lap before the chequered flag??...he had a 18.7 in S1 IIRC

At least he has three new sets of mediums and three new sets of hards. The thing is that there will be completely wet race and dry tyres are useless :rotfl:

Going by precedent,if it rains tomorrow, both drivers will have no grip and we'll finish outside the points

Gro could start from the pitlane if it rains tomorrow!

What about Kimi´s set-up? Any comments by him?

18.9
What I mean is that after that slowish lap (the 2nd timed lap of Q3), according to the app, he entered into the pits with 6 seconds of the session left. Accordig to that, he could have crossed the line on time to do still another hot lap

I feel a bit for Grosjean. He had a good lap going and I think veteran de la Rosa should've been more on the ball.
Surely starting him from the bits with a full-on wet set-up is a no-brainer now.

Räikkönen losing third free must be the reason for that low-ish grid slot, but in the circumstances that's an OK effort, and I wouldn't be surprised if they too had a car that atleast on some parametres, is tuned more for the wet rather than the dry.

Grosjean had the pace this weekend..real shame, what happened.50-50 fault for me...Pedro shouldve been more aware ,he was being shown blue flags while RG should never have been at this extreme left of the track when the right side was all vacant.

It's a possibility, and a quite logical one :)

That's what the tracking showed. But the thing is not perfect, though. It's always possible the tracking and the clock weren't totally on synchrony. We are talking just about a few seconds margin for yes or not :)

I don't think missing FP3 cost him much speed today. I think it is the usual vagaries of qualy on conditions such as this. He was just a tenth away from P6. That's how close it is.

And because he's faster than both of them when he keeps it on the track and in one piece.

But that's like saying Joey Barton is the greatest tackler in football when he isn't sent off  .

I do want Romain to succeed (although I don't think he'll ever be a WDC) but his problem is he's too much of a klutz. He's been careless since he debuted in 2009 and in 2012 still hasn't rectified those problems.

Thats a big gamble as well. The tires he was on would have been scrubbed in and had some temperature in them still. Probably thought it was better to save a set in case he got through still.

Losing FP3 definitely hurt..He said so himself after quali(as Vesuvius posted in KR thread)..had to use setups from yesterday which were far from ideal.

What im still struggling to understand is Lotus giving KR just one run at the end trying to save a set of tires when the probability for rain tomorrow is high..i mean if it rains continously ,we wont be needing the softer compound at all..if it rains intermittently, even then saving sets wont matter....

Shouldve planned it like Mclaren/RB..one run at the start and then one in the dying seconds of the session when the track is at its best...we saw that with Ham/Button/Webber's laps..

Total threatened to walk unless Lotus didn't hire Grosjean for 2012. Perhaps Total is using the same tactic for 2013 and Lotus are still not willing to lose a sponsor over him, which of course wouldn't be surprising.

I don't know, Koba isn't the fastest (one of the reasons he is in trouble now), but he's not one of the steadiest either, so surely if Lotus is willing to do away a fast driver for a more steady one, there are better options?

With Coca-Cola Company's Burn deal already confirmed that would make Lotus quite the sponsorship magnet. But like Boullier said sponsors love Kimi and his arrival to the team has clearly had a huge impact on that front.

Not according to Saward's sources at Sauber.

but actually, sauber and samsung makes more sense than lotus because CHELSEA sponsors sauber and SAMSUNG sponsors CHELSEA ... we'll see what happens.

regarding Grosjeans incident ... i'd say this, he put himself in that 'between a rock and a hard place' , specially if u've heard Gary anderson's words, you need to be fast towards the end, not risk all at the beginning of the session, if Maldonado has the brain to drive outside of a HRT, why didn't grosjean IDK

BTW, did anyone see this tweet from @redbullf1spy :p

So I just heard Lotus plan to put energy drink stickers on their cars. Well it's a novel idea but it might just work…

Yes, that is exactly what Saward was speculating on as well but his sources at Sauber said that is not the case.

Koba is one of the fastest on the grid when he has the car under him... ie spa.... his setup needs are very difficult I heard.

From Permane

What's more, he only completed a single run in Q3 at a time when the track was not at its quickest

Exactly what i was moaning about above..had Lotus put him on a similar strategy as Ham/But/Web..he wouldve enjoyed the track at its quickest in the dying seconds of the session and maybe pulled off a couple of tenths.

Anyways, time to look ahead..The circuit aids overtaking..and with the chance of rain,it is all to play for

On friday, Lopez almost confirmed Grosjean for next year on espnf1, french version.

" We wanted to put him under a certain pressure ", declared Lopez, the owner of the team Lotus F1. " This boy has a point of sensational speed but since he was punished for his accidents, he has the handbrake in position 'squeezed' ".

" I asked him to attack again. If he can better manage on the emotional plan, he can make a success of everything in his career ", he added, admiring of the qualities of the native of Geneva. It does not thus remain more than to wait for the officialization which always makes Grosjean wait.

http://fr.espnf1.com...tory/96081.html

But yesterday, Lopez was less confident.

If Gérard Lopez, the owner of the team, showed himself optimistic on Friday, he was him a little less on Saturday and again wanted to give itself of time to settle the case Grosjean. " It is not buckled(locked up) yet, there are current discussions. The decision will be taken after the season ", declared Lopez to RMC, evoking the necessity " to sit down around a table ".

F1 - Lotus yet to take Grosjean ’decision’ for 2013 - Lopez

The buzz in the Interlagos paddock has been that Lotus is pursuing a high-profile figure for 2013, just as it did when it brought Raikkonen back from a rallying sabbatical this season.

One name mentioned a few times has been Robert Kubica’s, even though the talented Pole is saying openly that his injuries are still preventing him from driving a single seater.

And Lopez told Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport: "There is no ’Kimi’ on the market right now

any idea who this ''high profile figure'' might be???

If you look at the best sector times from qualifying Grosjean is: S1: 20, S2: 18 and S3: 20. I really doubt that on the lap where they crashed he could have posted a time to better Vergne for 17th as he didn't have a single sector where he was faster than him. Grosjean was even slower than the Caterhams on first and last sectors.

He also had a hot lap after coming out of the pits with the new front wing. He legitimately didn't make Q2. I was a little surprised they sent him out on hards again on his final run. Risky move that didn't pay off.

I have a feeling that Grosjean could be in the points if his first lap will be without any incidents. He was pretty competitive in FP3, even did the best S2 time. It looks like the race should be dry though, and he has plenty of fresh tires to use. C'mon frenchman, show this bona-fide E20 pace.

As for Kimi, I have doubts in his potential race pace and setup. It would be great to see him reaching the finish line and achieve 100% laps in every grand prix.

I agree..He clearly said after quali that he didnt have a decent setup because of the lack of running. The regulations mean that they wont be able to touch anything except the front wing..

Wouldnt be surprised if he struggles today/...the way regulations are right now..if u miss one or two practice sessions due to issues, the whole weekend gets mucked up

Stop bashing Grosjean all the time... too many mistakes this year, true, but today he wasn't the only one. I mean, even Kimi was off road 2 times, and finished 10th only with di Resta in the wall.
Grosjean was unlucky to lose his rear at this fast corner

anyway, poor race for Lotus
