Looks like the VMCC are living up to their name, I phoned them to try to arrange to take over a 4 sessions at the festival this weekend that were booked by someone else, who can no longer attend due to work commitments.........hard work or what it was like dealing with the ACU 40 years ago.

"Oh we could'nt possibly do that, insurance issues and everything" what do you mean everything "well insurance" Ok I can pay for that. "no you have 28 days to cancel so we need your entry 28 days before hand" that's rubbish you just get me to sign a disclaimer waiving my right to cancel, I deal with this kind of thing all day long "oh I don't think we can do that" yes you can if you want to, so your saying If Mick Doohan phoned up and said Freddie can't make it but I can come instead you would turn him away........silence, "well I'm not saying that but" Don't worry, "click" that was me hanging up.

What a shame and there's me thinking things had moved on, but they have his money and an empty space in the paddock.

I think that you may find that the ACU are involved here, which may just explain your difficulty ??

Over the years a bigger bunch of Neanderthal (Neanderthal man sues for deformation of character).

In 1981 whilst over in Florida at Daytona I purchased a very lightweight (about 1 lb weight) Kevlar crash helmet manufactured by Simpson (no not Bart) to replace my aging and very heavy Bell.

On the way back from Heathrow I called in at the ACU (was in London then) to get an ACU stamp.

'Oh no' say Auntie they are dangerous. The projection below the chin could snag in the road and break you neck. Well only if you might be sliding on your stomach backwards up the road.

However my 3 lbs (weight) Bell was alright and could not possibly cause neck problems when falling off, hitting on of Cur Jackie Stewarts steel investments (Armco) as I rapidly decelerated.

Or what about their edict of lining your fairing screen with plastic edging so you weren’t decapitated by the Perspex edge.

Or their anti long hair rule to stop the flowing locks catching in the chain as you slide majestically beneath the bike round Chessons Drift.

Yet they allowed Cur Jackie to have very nice soft steel erected around every permanent race circuit in the UK, in some cases actually lining the very edge of the tarmac.

They did have their good points????????????????

I always found Colin and Marie Armes pretty reasonable at the Snetterton Combine meetings for late entries. Had quite a few late entries with them and mostly on the day if I was offered a ride. Always took the kit with me if I was going to have a look. As regards the 1000 Bikes if it was a name then things would be different. Maybe you should have said your name was Mick Doohan ! The joys of H and S eh!!

Colin & Marie were/are very nice, reasonable people (mind you, my only experience of them was when riding in the TT).

Marie, however, didn't miss you and hit the wall, but only when absolutely justified!

Agreed Colin and Marie were the exception amongst the jobsworths in my experience.

Totally Agree Colin and Marie were a different kettle of fish, I had ride offered to me for the Le mans 24hr in 1986 and and had not raced or held a licence since effectively retiring 18 months earlier and Colin bent over backwards to get me a 1 event international licence despite the ACU being their normal pedantic selves.
