Amazes me someone doesn't take a 'gamble' (not that it would be much of one) that its going to be wet and work on a proper wet setup for Sunday.....

They might go out if the weather allows intermediate tyres. They got one extra set of them if FP1 or FP2 are declared wet.

"wet weather setup" like in the past doesn't exist anymore.

Can someone tell us if it is actually raining? But only if you are really in the area, because my internet says dry atm!

Yes it's raining. Not at the track but nearby and Mclaren members tweeting about building a boat in time for FP1.

Maybe not but having a set up that worked well in the wet didn't do any harm to Perez and Alonso in Malaysia did it

Glorious were the days when we had opening posts with all the details for the race weekend (in case of Silverstone links to wheather forecasts). :p

Heavy, heavy traffic to the track. Completely stuck on the A43. If you see @SChecoPerez and @kamui_kobayashi please let them pass...;-)

Is this for real?

Yep for sure. Will Buxton is stuck in traffic & says he's about to pop he's so pissed off. Traffic is bad.

Yeah traffic sounds to be basically not moving. As for the weather, it should improve during the course of the day. 50-60% chance of showers into the quali window, which could be heavy if they fall (15-25mm per hour apparently), and an even higher chance of rain into the race window on Sunday (though obviously it could rain beforehand but stop before the start but still be a wet track).

Yeah, and that's a 50-60% chance of rain, so it's not even like it's say just a 15% chance of rain, but reasonably likely to rain tomorrow.

It's a shame the rule regarding intemediates (getting back a set after FP if you use them) doesn't apply to extreme wets. Any used today come out the teams allocation, according to Horner, so don't expect much running on those grounds.

Well yeah, why would they burn up inters un-necessarily? No point doing too much extreme wet running either because look at the last few wet races, if the track is wet enough for the extremes, the safety car will be out.... Its rubbish.

The problem is it's too wet for inters. They do need the same rule for the full wets. However, though I agree with your comments regarding the race and SC being out, full wets should be able to be used no problem in qualifying, unless it's like Japan 2010 where quite clearly you needed a powerboat, not a racing car, as I remember even the medical car when doing it's inspection was struggling to stay on track because the track was completely flooded.

I don't understand why they're running at FP1 at all? I mean if it's too wet for intermediate tyres there will automatically be safety car in race and in qualification there will be red flag. They're just wasting engine and gear box by running with full wet tyres. I could understand if they would do simple installation lap..that's all.

The cars are doing a good job of cleaning the racing line - at least they are not all in the pits as we have seen in similar conditions.

Seeing pictures of the campsites, mates telling me what it's like and seeing the images on the telly this morning, makes it that little but bearable that I'm not there this year.

1 thing I still don't get with the new pitlane (ok, not so new now) is why it even dips down and then back up/has the wall which blocks the view of some of the team garages. Surely that wasn't needed, and they could've just had it all at the same level at the track............couldn't they?

The pitlane doesn't 'dip down', the track goes up. Its best to build the pitlane on the flat for a multitude of reasons.

I'm not sure, as the area around there is flat.

This is it, isn't it? We want rain, but the SC and Charlie Whiting threat is too much to risk.

So the teams aren't running because they need to save their wet tyres? This is abit of a fiasco, isn't it. I assumed the teams aren't running because they're too arrogant to go out into the wet and assume it's going to be a dry weekend except for Friday...

Can't wait to hear the drivers and teams moan that they didn't set the car up properly for the weekend, you only have yourselves to blame for that.
