Sad to say Giannino Marzotto died earlier today at the age of 84. He has been ill for some time and so we have lost yet another iconic motor racing character. Even in recent years when he was clearly very ill he was always immaculately dressed and a true Italian gentleman.

Very sorry to hear this. In 2007, I sent a letter to him asking for an autograph, which he promptly returned signed. I was thrilled to see the #724 1950 Mille Miglia winning Ferrari at Monterey in 2007, and at Brescia in 2008. Another hero gone.

Sad news from a great Italian racing family. Giannino Marzotto is a part of motor racing history.

Latest CAVALLINO ( June/July) has the cover-story on this Ferrari and a very personal story on him by Keith Bluemel, who met him and re-introduced him to the now fully restored car!!

Sad sad news.
The son of Count Marzotto, founder of one of the most important textile manifacturing of Italy, Giannino Marzotto won two editions of the Mille Miglia in 1950 and 1953, then aged 22 and 25, always driving his Ferrari elegantly dressed in a gray wool double-breasted "Prince of Wales". A real gentleman.

Just five days after Giannino Marzotto's death, also his faithful co-driver and lifelong friend Marco Crosara passed away, aged 85.
Both of them were born in Valdagno, province of Vicenza, Italy. Childhood friends, classmates, they earned together a law degree but they did not exercise the profession of lawyer. Marzotto, the heir of one of the most important textile manifacturing of Italy, was involved in his family business. Also Crosara started an industrial activity in the catering and retail sector and his company for a number of years ran the canteen staff of the Marzotto factory.
They started racing together in the late 1940s and won together the Coppa della Toscana in 1951 and the Mille Miglia race in 1950 and 1953, sharing private Ferrari cars.
A reserved man, Marco Crosara died at Valdagno hospital, on 19 July 2012.
