Pole lap by Sebastian. Interesting to see where he used his KERS, and the fact that he did lift off a bit at 130R.

Nope, there is no lift whatsoever in 130r. The sound is just the revs dropping a little due to the car turning at high speed.

He does however miss the apex a little in the last chicane.

Hi Guys,

Schumi fan here who will be supporting Vettel in full next year but rooting for him for the WDC this year.

Great lap today.

Strangely pessimistic realistic for a Vettel fan. If all goes as expected he should be about 16 points behind Alonso after tomorrow; with five races left and a better car that is a great position to be in. I can only dream Hamilton were in such a position.

Good performance from him today, I haven't seen the lap but he's a bit good around Suzuka. Well done. Can he be the first back to back winner of the season?

There, I fixed for you.

It was a good Q3 and the team worked hard for it. As usually the truth lies in the race and we could still see a very mixed race, with tyre troubles, different sweet-spots, strategies, safety cars, reliability and so forth. An as usually it seems easy for most to forget that so far the McLaren has been the car to beat in most races, but have a memory which resets after every day.

Seb did arguably the best job of the top team drivers, but this is not too surprising.

There is a slight lift-off at 130R because there is a reduction of 8kph speed entering that corner.

Vettel was at 317kph, and exited the corner at 309kph.

This is the best Red Bull has looked so far this season. The chance of a Red Bull win tomorrow is quite high - either one of their drivers is capable of pulling it off. Hoping for an uneventful 1st corner with Webber line astern behind Vettel after that corner.

SV does not use the curbing in turn 1 of last chicane. I noticed this on his other laps aswell.

DANKE SEB !!!

Today we´ve seen a driver trespassing history!!! Vettel 3rd best poleman ever.

And one of the best thing, 4 races he drove at Suzuka... one of the most (if not the most) difficult and technical circuit on F1... 4 POLES IN A ROW !!!

Well as I said, when he had the car to fight the pole this season, he beat everybody and did it (except maybe at Monaco or Hocekheim). The fastest sprinter on F1 comes back! ;)

Please please tell me you aren't that ignorant about f1 cars. The speed slows because he is turning and there is lateral force going on!

I can't believe you don't understand how this works. The car slows not because of a lift but because the tires and now going forwards and turning.

Edit: Guys is this guy trolling?

Seb was impressive in quali today.
Q1 outlap, flying lap BAM, inlap
Q2 outlap, flying lap BAM, inlap
Q3 outlap, flying lap BAM, inlap, PP.
Kid is stellar at Suzuka!

I think it would be fair to say that, on his day, Vettel is probably the best qualifier we've seen since Senna; the resident experts would probably be in a hurry to tell you otherwise, though.

Now keep it cool and bag the win tomorrow so the title fight will really come alive!

I am no Vettel fan, but I am impressed that he always seems to be extra strong, when the WDC fight gets serious. Many drivers start to crack under pressure, Vettel gets better.

Yes no faffing around in Q1 like some races. It was like some of Hamilton's qualy sessions this year (Hungary, Spain especially) and Seb's last year

Isnt this the forum where "on his day" is throw around like a bad case of the flu?

On any of the drivers say theyre amazing, vettel is better than on his day, i dont personally think hes as fast as only one driver Hamilton, but i do believe truly hes more consistent than Hamilton which makes up for it and more.

Whenever Vettel gets pole and he needs an equal chance only to do so, less than equal when a driver like Hamilton and Alonso arent in for pole, he gets it, and when he gets pole he almost certainly wins, i expect nothing less than a Vettel victory tomorrow hes just too Senna like.

When it really matters that's when he picks up the results, I'm glad 2010 happened because it made him grow as a character and especially bouncing back from Korea that year made him realize that he can get it done.

Having the faster car helps, I don't think he is driving better now. The car has improved a lot so he only has to avoid doing big mistakes and pray for no reliability problems. Not trying to downplay Vettel skills but I don't think 2010 proved anything, the car was fast enough to cruise from the pole in most of the circuits, only mechanical problems gave chances to the other drivers. The end of this season seems to be more of the same, do you really think he is under pressure for tomorrow's race?

Edit: Guys is this guy trolling?

I do understand the concept more than you gave me credit for, but what governs a car through double-apex corner like 130R is not the mechanical grip, but the aerodynamics of the car. The tyres are a constant for all teams with Pirelli, but what separates the big boys from the backmarkers are the car's aero. Take out the front wing, the rear wing and the diffuser of an F1 car, and they would be lucky to survive going through 130R on full throttle.

It is also not necessarily accurate that once you go through 130R turning on a constant 130m radii, that your speed drops. Alonso showed here that he could accelerate through 130R through different gear ratios.

Kamui Kobayashi hit the brake through 130R and in the process deactivating his DRS, and his speed dropped by 14mph. (time 2.20s on the youtube video). Vettel's speed dropped by 8mph, and without the benefit of the telemetry and the on-board throttle/brake graphics, I just assumed that he must have lifted off.

Anyway, the original pole position had such a lousy sound-track that I could barely hear the engine revs. So, in all likelihood, you were right and Vettel was on full throttle through that corner.

The run through the first corner from P1 is a lengthy 500m. Hopefully, nothing eventful occurred there in 15mins time....

Danke Seb !!!

Amazing another GRAND CHELEM !!!

Smashing everyone on the most difficult track. He won at Singapore and Suzuka, the two more technical tracks on F1. 4 times he ran at Suzuka, 4 poles and 3 victories... nothing more to say.

He´s coming and now the lucky is coming too... despite Seb had one more DNF at Monza losing 12 points...

As I said, Seb´s benchmark is being stronger on the final part of the championship where most pressure is...;)

Grand Chelem! What a time to do it

and if 24 = 24
Vettel = Fangio

(even if Fangio did it in barely half the races)

I don't know. He lead the standings after 4 and 5 races took a very good 2nd in Australia and was rarely out of the running for the top 4 places at the races.

Once again, when the pressure is on, the strongest drivers deliver and the weak ones crash themselves out of the race.

The battle is still on. Ferrari is a great car, they are still ahead on the title race, and McLaren had a one off today, but they should be stronger in the races to come...

And those very long straights at the mixed circuits (Korea and Texas) are not going to help Vettel at all.

There is a rumor that RB8s have a DDRS system for this race. We will find out in Korea in 6 days time.

If RB8s top speed is competitive there, that will spell trouble for the rest of their opponents.

Do you have a link for that one?
If true, then the gap to Ferrari at the mixed circuits would reduce dramatically...
Any idea on what upgrades are on the queue for the reds?

There's no way webber would have gotten anywhere near him today, just a stunning drive from vettel. Doesn't worry me either way but he's going to look like a right tit one day when he crashes out from the lead trying to get a pointless fastest lap.

immune to pressure?? More like thrives on it! Crazy how good he is in this situation.

To be honest I wished alonso did well so we have vettel pushing crazily to the end, he is going to wrap this thing up nicely now.
