At the weekend I bought a photo from Ted Walker at this Ferret Fotographics tent showing four Lotus Mk 6s going round Druids during the 750 MC / Club Lotus meeting at Brands Hatch on 10 June 1956. I am trying to identify the cars and drivers. I found that I have a handwritten list of Lotus entries although I don't know where I found the information and it must be over twenty years ago that I wrote it down in any case.
Car Driver Capacity cc	Racing No Registration

									 Lotus VI	K. Laverton 1172 TRT 653
									 Lotus VI	H.N. Ryman 1172
									 Lotus XI	G. Hill 1172
									 Lotus VI	J. Lawry 1172
									 Lotus VI	J. Harris <1100
									 Lotus VI	K. Taskent <1100
									 Lotus IX	P. Lumsden <1100
									 Lotus XI	J.J. Richards <1500
									 Lotus VI	J.H.P. Rope 1172
									 Lotus VI	P. Rossi-Ashton 1172
									 Lotus VI	R.N. Walton 1172
									 Lotus VI	J.P.H. Gresham 1172 29 ULG 3
									 Lotus VI	G. Hill <2000
									 Lotus VI	J.R.H. West 31 PCE 335
									 Lotus IX	P. Ashdown

The photo shows car number 27, registered EDC 844, leading NUL 612 (Philip Desoutter's old car), followed by PCE 335 (J.R.H. West) and finally TRT 653 driven by Ken Laverton. Apart from the first car, none of the racing numbers are visible.

I have another photo from Ted showing J.P.H. Gresham in ULG 3, racing number 29 and J.R.H. West in PCE 335, racing number 31 taken at the same meeting.

It would be a start if someone could confirm that my table above is the same as the programme entries and provide racing numbers if possible. Any other details would be a bonus.

Charles by luck I have the original race programme for his meeting ( an EBay purchase) with all entries by name and car number. I think the best thing is for me scan it and email it to you? This was the first Club Lotus meeting in conjunction with he 750 MC. Some years ago I obtained the small trophy that G Hill won at this meeting. Also in this meeting a certain Colin Chapman drove a Ford Prefect in the saloon car race ! Why when he was surrounded by Lotus cars of all shapes and sizes?

Thanks very much, Mike. That would be great.

I think that I remember seeing ACBC having a very spirited go in a Ford Escort round Brands Hatch during a celebrity race. There must have been an element of knowing that the Ford would probably get to the end of the race without breaking whereas his driving could well have caused premature failure in a Lotus :)

OT I hope that the 12 survived the Festival of Speed and that you enjoyed it.

Frustratingly, the info in the tables at:

http://forums.autosp...w...63&hl=F1200

Show that 1956 was a year that wasn't recorded for some reason - typical.

That's a very useful resource though for other years; many thanks Mistron

Funnily enough Len Gibbs was running NUL 612 with an overhead valve (exhaust and inlet) cylinder head in June 1955. It was designed by a Mr Farina but I think that it never really worked and the car presumably was fitted with a normal sidevalve engine by 1956 so that it would be eligible to run in the 1172 championship races.

Some results here:

The second one shows John Lawry in a Lotus VI

Also, this:

http://www.historicl.....vern 2010.htm

It shows David Richardson as the (current?) owner of EDC 844.
