Live streamig of the race will return on the Bathurst 12 Hour website (of the Sunday race only.)

The defending Bathurst 12 Hour champion team, Phoenix Racing, has entered the 2013 race in a bid to secure back-to-back wins for the German outfit and three in a row for Audi.Phoenix Racing prepared the race-winning Audi R8 LMS that won the 2012 race with drivers Darryl O’Young, Christopher Meis and Christer Jons and has entered the latest 2012-specification Audi R8 LMS Ultra for 2013.

Following their their win this year, the team went on to win the Nurburgring 24 hour race in June and then backed that up with a crushing victory in the recent Spa 24 hour against a record field of more than 70 GT3 vehicles. The Phoenix Raceing team won the Bathurst, Nurburgring and Spa enduros this year.

Who paid for the live streaming of the race this season? I can't imagine too many people have access to Speed Channel Australia nor them having a sizable production budget? Surely not the competitors who have huge costs already, and are of course the main "customer" of a race of this type rather than spectators?

It seemed to be good quality coverage, shame to be limited to quite a small audience.

Since the broadcast is being produced in realtime, it does seem a little odd that Audi or Mercedes aren't prepared to sponsor at least a few hours of the race to be shown live on one of the digital multi-channels? [There are 24 hour infomercial channels selling bleeding frying pans after all!]

If the Balance of Performance measures in GT3 are even half as bad as they were this year (following the totally ridiculous Dubai 24h model where joker laps, post qualifying weight penalties etc were used on top of regular GT3 BoP which itself makes no sense) well you're in for a mess.

And Australian GT only participating for one hour, then parking the cars for the rest of the race is pants. Even worse than Dutch Supercar Challenge only doing a few hour run @ the 24 hours of Zolder in 2011.

mouserat159, it's not the level of participating teams I'm negative about (indeed, there are some really quality entries both in here and Dubai), but when you start to have things like... this...
http://www.ten-tenth...mp;postcount=46

Well. It all just gets very, very silly. Bathurst should've never accepted FIA GT3 cars

Have they banned Mitsubishi Evo's from running in the 12 Hour? I seem to recall them cleaning up in the last few years, but there's none on the entry list.

Yes I meant to say the Dunlop Development Series. I just couldn't think of the current naming sponsor for the series at the time of writing last night. Thanks for your reply and correcting me.

They made their own 6hr race at Eastern Creek I recall. No interest in being lapped.

I reckon there'd be more to it than that. Didn't they change the rules to let all those non-production exotics in, and thus (hopefully) draw a bigger crowd?

It's just odd that there's a couple of Subaru STi's running, whilst anyone who knows cars is well aware that the Evo IX & X are altogether better tools if you're going to enter this thing and want to run a 4WD turbo 2 litre.

FIFTY FOUR cars have entered the 2013 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, setting up a race that looks a thriller across every class.

20 cars will travel from overseas to compete against the best GT and Production cars Australia has to offer. 20 international entries have been received from 10 countries; Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Singapore, Germany, Hong Kong, United States of America, Belgium, Switzerland and France.
• 32 cars make up the three ‘GT’ classes, GT3 Outright, GT3 and GT4. 18 cars are in the outright class – a record.
• Six of the defending, Bathurst 12 Hour-winning Audi R8 LMSs are entered.
• 10 Porsches, two Mercedes Benz SLS AMGs, two Lamborghini Gallardo’s and two Ferrari 458’s are also entered.
• The Ford GT, BMW Z4M and Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3 will make their respective race debuts.
• Two factory-supported Peugeot RCZs will race for the first time (the cars are entered in the I1 invitational class).
• Making the most of the extended Invitational classes, a Daytona Coupe will compete for the first time.

The three teams that filled the top three places in the 2012 race, Phoenix Racing, Erebus Motorsport and Clearwater Racing, have all confirmed

Ex- Forumula 1 driver Mika Salo is going to race in the Baturst 12 race. While he did not make mention of the team he will be driving for, fellow 12-hour driver Allan Simonsen replied by welcoming Salo to the team which is almost certainly Maranello Motorsport’s Ferrari 458

Will be getting this year if I've got half a chance. Went 2 years ago - the best value for money motorsport event I've ever been to.

I'll have a chat to a couple of guys I know who did the post race interviews. See if they're streaming this year. Well worth a watch.

The Bathurst 12 hour race will also be stream live on www.bathurst12hour.com.au usually you get a photo of the car with the drivers names & the current lap time next to it & the list will automatically change few minutes or so, it has been great every year. And SBS are going to show a special 3 hour highlight show of the race the following weekend. I may laugh at a 3 hours coverage of a 12 hour race but I fell luckily the race will be televised back on a Free to air channel.

Allan Simonsen has handed Marranello Motorsport Friday bragging rights at the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour. Simonsen started the session in the car to evaluate the different rubber, clocking a best of 2:08.54s. The #63 Erebus Mercedes and #33 Clearwater Ferrari ended up second and third respectively after Lee Holdsworth and Craig Baird recorded near identical 2:08.6s during a mid-session flurry.
The Practice 2 pace-setting #6 Skwirk Audi of Craig Lowndes/Warren Luff and Rod Salmon was just sixth fastest in the final session after focusing on giving car owner Salmon maximum seat time.

Practice 3 was punctured by a single red flag, called just 10 minutes in to retrieve the #26 GWS BMW after a spin at the top of the Mountain.

The #80 Beric Lynton BMW 1M completed just one lap as it continued to struggle with electrical problems, causing Lynton to replace the car with his venerable M3 for the remainder of the weekend.

Problem isn't with the streaming website, it's with the video uplink from the track.

Yeh, you're right. It is finally working. Pretty embarrassing to miss the first hour of racing though.

I tell you those lush green hills and Aussie sunshine look pretty damn good from my snowy, sludgy NYC bunker :p

Enjoying the RLM commentary too.

Positive enough? ;)

Evidently Alan Simonson in the Ferrari actually qualified fastest, but went too fast, a high 2.05 and the 'limit' is 2.06. So got a 50 kilo present!

Has anyone tried Natsoft? I used it yesterday. looked at one result and tried for the next and i just get a blank screen. I know a couple of people in support categorys and it is nice to know how they are going.

And I have tried to watch the live streaming, but it stops every 5 seconds. Though I think it is my connection, being too far from a capital city. I an SIX km from the Adelaide GPO. About 4 as the crow flies. Ahh modern infrastructure, on our 65 y/o phone lines.

Managed to watch the last couple of hours - a bit long with the SC periods but again Bathurst turned the weather on for the end of a race :)

Thanks again mouserat159 for your efforts keeping this thread alive

Just a reminder that Speedweek are showing a 3 hour highlights show of last weekend's Bathurst 12 hour race this Sunday 17th starting at 11:30 am.

I just got word that next year's 12 hour Bathurst in on the 7th- 9th February 2014.

22,453 people attended over the three day race meet, that's 2,700 up on last year.

I hope this forum will continue as more info on next year's event comes to hand.

Regards

Mouserat 159 :)

Watch out for Lee Holdsworth, the pole sitter, taking out the class leading (7 laps ahead) and 18th O/A Lotus Elise by running into the back of it on the start finish straight on the restart with an hour to go!

I watched some of the Speedweek highlights. Commentary was crap, as was the coverage. The racing though seemed ok, though the cars and rules seemed very confusing to me. Since when has an Astra been a GT car? Or a Seat. They were just chicanes.

And Mal Rose in a seemingly 10 y/o Supercar? Though typical Mal, cruise around all day and finish well.

As did most of the Porkers, who finished very well. Or in the wall.

The foil insulation in the Ferrari was just so ugly. Looks like a dodgey home reno!!

Though a hi tech sports car it seems is no quicker, and less reliable than a Tuetonic sports coupe, and faster than the Audis.

And ex F1 drivers try and drive through non existent gaps, he will make a good Supercar driver where that is expected,, in a sprint race not an enduro. I feel sorry for the Porsche driver.

It may well have been a home reno!

I haven't seen pics of that particular car or a standard GT3.

I was also wondering how much faster a GT2 version would be. But it may not be, since the GT2 has less power and more weight than the GT3!

The 458 GT2 did win its class (GTE pro) at Le Mans last year.
