So, basically, he will hardly interfere with Pedrosa and Lorenzo. Unless he nails a great Q laps and bothers them early in the race while playing tough to overtake.
This is better news for Lorenzo than it is for Pedrosa.

Hopefully HRC is giving everything it can to Bradl and Bautista to push them clear of Tech 3 and possibly help Pedrosa.

By the looks of things Rossi will be inhabiting that just-behind-the-two-leaders position as well. Don't think he'll be able to take points off Lorenzo or Pedrosa in a fair fight, anymore than the other Honda or Yamaha riders will, but another rider running close behind will make bad races from either championship contender that bit more disastrous.

Am I the only one perplexed by Stoner's decision to risk his leg and future gait in a sport he is wanting to get out?

I see they signed Fabrizio. No more Canepa? A couple years ago he was the next big thing..

well he hasn't left yet and still has commitments I suppose. Who knows he may still pull out though.

Marquez and Kallio had a practice crash. Marquez ran wide and a faster Kallio went through. At the next corner Marquez drove it up the inside and Mika basically fell off the bike. In a race I'd call it nothing but it was a dick move for practice.

Hope that for 2013 Moto GP gets a more modern qualifying format rather than the batch 60 min of which only the last 5 min actually matters.

You had to know that Spies would crash when he started getting up near the front.

There is nothing wrong with it. They work on their set up early on and leave the banzai stuff for later. I dont think qualifying ever was 60m of nothing but uncompromised laps to keepthe crowd pleased.

Qualifying is about speed, who's the fastest over one lap, not some stupid show.

I'm trying to think of another series where single lap time doesn't count....

Maybe Indycar on ovals where you have to do two fast laps?

It bores me to the point that I've stopped watching it. Last 10 minutes are good, but thats about it.

What??? That sounds terrible! The top ten riders will be able/have to sit out the new QP1? Am I getting that right?

Only twelve bikes take part in QP2?

Hope I'm wrong but that's what it looks like to my tired eyes! Bloody hell then.

Funny how Espargaro turned up a gear as soon as Marquez was past. Why didnt he do it earlier to push Marquez into an even harder recovery job?

Moto2 isn't F1 with 2 way radios for the riders. Espargaro wouldn't have known Marques had made a bad start. Marques often hangs back at the start of a race. At the same time Espargaro would have been saving his tyres, so he could push towards the end of the race.

Might as well draw straws for starting places. Too complicated and I'm not going to bother watching an empty track for the majority of qualifying.

Not that keen on Marquez but boy can he ride have to say. Will be interesting how he comes to terms with the Bridgestones in the first year in 2013.

Shame for Ben, wonder if Rossi can work his way up, could be a good lead battle here.

Poor Pedrosa. He can have the best rides of his life for the rest of the season but without Lorenzo making a mistake and no one looking likely to steal 2nd, he cannot win.

I do not believe that Lorenzo was really pushing today. He is playing a strategic game.

How is it complicated? I read it once and fully understand it

Would've preferred an f1 style system but since the crt bikes are so slow i guess there's no point

People don't drive in Q because engines are limited. A few years ago they could use as many engines they want. Rule makers don't seem to understand that. Same happened in F1, where I loved the 60mins/12 laps Q the best. It is always a tension build up. Currently the Q3 tension is far less for me.

Which sucks because it makes for very unexciting races. Misano really ruined it. If only Pedrosa had finished fith or so it would be a while different picture now.

Yeah it sucks a lot because I'm sure he would've been able to clinch this years title without that Misano mishap.

This has to be one of the worst seasons of MotoGP ever. The CRTs have added less to the show, even compounded its problems.

I can't blame Lorenzo for settling for second,if he would have tried to race with Dani and drop it,people would be going, what his he doing racing Dani,he should be taking it easy,he can't win.Race hard and crash or settle for second and win the title, thats the goal at the end of the season.

No matter the end result, Pedrosa performs better than I ever expected he would be able to. It's like I start believing he will be a contender for the title next year even if Lorenzo doesn't have a DNF. Lorenzo said he did not settle for second in Japan, and the last race he was on the ragged edge before giving up.

Stoner in another week when he is more recovered and a track that will better suit the Honda. Still without Jorge striking trouble I would doubt he can lose it from here. Years ago Honda would have pumped in a few quick local riders at Japan to spice things up - that could change a championship outcome but Honda's investment in costly MGP is cash strapped. Interesting that Yamaha had a local rider though.

Hmmm... was that just a idiotic error, or did Spies' brakes fail? Something odd about that crash and the post race quotes.

Massimo Meregalli

Team Director

“Ben had an issue with the brakes on the second lap of the race. This circuit is very demanding for the braking system and most of the riders highlighted the same problems, although Ben suffered more than anybody else. The warm-up lap and lap one of the race went relatively smoothly but then on the second lap he was not able to stop the bike. Data does not show anything different on that corner compared with previous practices. Jorge once again showed his talent and cleverness. He tried at the beginning to stay in front but then used his experience to maintain second position and look forward to bigger results. We are going to Sepang not aiming for another second but for the win.”
