That's so sweet of him doing it for us fans, feel pretty shit about putting through all that discomfort though. I wonder what the reason other riders have for riding injured or in pain?

Turn three officially named Stoner Corner

Should imagine that Australia has many, many stoner corners............ :smoking: ;)

'Casey's' would have been a better name.

Considering the fact that its more of a sweep than a corner, Casey's would have been way better then Stoner Corner.

Tilke should never ever be allowed to even have a peak at that and Bernie better not know of its existence.

Phillip Island is one of the very few tracks I look and don't wish it had this instead of that. Perhaps along with Mugello in the MotoGP calendar.

I have the same opinion about Bathurst :)

I think the main difference with Tilke's tracks is that PI has a proper flow, its not just a random mix of corners put together.

I hope Stoner can really do it and wins the race. Hopefully Honda won't try some team order mumbo-jumbo.

They need team orders at this point. If they do it, you cant be upset at them. Stoner wants to quit and not be a part of this sport or the team. Why the hell should they care how well he does unless it benefits their title contender?

Well they didn't do it last year when Stoner was being chased down by Lorenzo and Pedrosa practically out of it.

I dont remember them being in any position to use team orders last year.

Misano. Lorenzo was leading with Stoner second but Pedrosa was gaining time on him until he eventually overtook him a few laps from the end. No team orders there even though Pedrosa was realistically out of the title fight and Lorenzo rapidly closing in on Stoner's advantage.

I know it's the practical thing to do, but I really want to see him win one last time.

Thanks for the link

Lorenzo is going to miss the challenge of trying to beat Stoner on race weekends, although I think Pedrosa has been fantastic to make up the difference in the last few races, it's not quite the same

And Stoner did his time with an used hard rear tire, while Pedrosa was using the softer tire.

Indeed; but conversley, why would Stoner worry about obeying team orders - what does he have to lose by winning the race, even if it's against Honda's wishes.

Danny Webb has had to pull out of the Moto3 race. Mahindra have had so many technical issues that they've now run out of spare parts.

Pity maverick showed up, there'd have been a spare bike for Danny.....
He deserves a medal for sticking by mahindra all season!

Why would Stoner pull over for Pedrosa?
He's always been of the view that the fastest should win. Even when Pedrosa could help him.
Besides, what are Honda going to do...? Fire him?

Xavier Simeon has suffered Tech 3's second Moto2 engine failure in two weekends. Control engines aren't supposed to do that. The HRC and Geo Tech guys were looking sheepish.

They didn't really need to use team orders, though. Stoner was still well in control of the championship and had won the last 3 races before that weekend.

The situation was really quite different.

Hmm, and as a Canadian tax payer (including my CPP contributions), I think my first demand will be the imposition of spec ECU's and a ban electronic traction control. Honda be damned, I want to see some racing.

True but they also didn't use team orders in that race when Pedrosa took championship leader and team mate Hayden out back in 2006. And as some already pointed out, what is Honda going to do if Stoner doesn't obey team orders? They can't fire him :)

So it's not worth cementing a championship lead, but it is worth taking a win away from your reigning world champ to aid a MINISCULE shot at the title?
You'll say 'anything can happen in a final race for title between George and Pedrosa' -but the same theory could be applied to stoner last year? He could have fallen off and lost a big lead?

Weren't they both still in the running for the title in 2006? Its true there's no way to force Stoner to obey any team orders, but you'd think he'd still be a professional about it. Maybe not?

What does it matter if he's reigning champ? Thats the past now. Its also not that miniscule a chance.

Anyways, my point was mainly that I would understand if they did use team orders, not saying they definitely would or would not. Stoner isn't exactly important to them at the moment other than to take points off Lorenzo.

The good thing about MotoGP is that they have team radio.. so it'll be easy on lap 15 for example.. to say to Casey.. "Code blue code blue, the rabbit is in the foxhole"..

Oh wait..

Whats much easier is discussing possible scenarios before the race.

No, Pedrosa was well out of contention by then. It was the penultimate race of the season and Pedrosa made a boneheaded move by diving into a small gap to overtake Hayden and ended up taking both out of the race. As a result, Hayden went from a comfortable little lead to a deficit going into the final round. Hayden winning wouldn't have sealed the title, he needed Rossi to finish 3rd or lower. It was Rossi's own mistake by falling off the bike that he lost that title.

Or using pitboards, or having a girl wear a Honda shirt and stand on the side of the track and lift up her top and flash Casey when the right lap comes. but it's a silly discussion IMO. No offense.. just my opinion.

Congrats to Casey for pole.. shame that his career ends this way but a home win would be something at least..

Still can't believe he is retiring at 27..

I thought that Lorenzo interview really summed it up though.. was good a good interview despite the language barrier.

Team orders? Lorenzo and Pedrosa won't be able to maintain the same pace. So you are suggesting they tell Stoner to slow down? Good luck with that.
