Hello,

today I got my McLaren M7A in scale 1/20th from Model Factory Hiro.
I will start this WIP soon, here some photos.

I am searching for color photos from the front suspension without nose but please not from a
restored car, if problems with copyright here, please PM, thanks.

Thanks for this photo, but I must know what color is the front bulkhead (orange or alu),
the rear bulkhead is orange.

How would you compare the MFH kits against Studio 27? They're both bloody expensive but they certainly fill in the gaps that plastic doesn't offer.

The MFH kits have more details but they are more expensive as Studio 27.

I'm most fascinated to know what colour you are going to paint this model.

Papaya is a very hard one to match.

I use Hycote Ford Signal Orange which is pretty close to my eye.

The detail on the inside of the engine is insane. Of course why it's there when it will probably never be seen is anyone's guess. Oh well, it would be great for a garage scene with the car partially disassembled.

For painting this model I use Zero Paints, primer and McLaren orange.

Probably a nice option would be to make a diorama with a repair shop and one of the heads of the V8 removed as if it was being repaired. This way the inside of the engine detail would be on display.

With all eight pistons at TDC, I would send it back to Northampton.

With all due respect the pistons to appear to be in different locations one to the other. I'll leave the firing sequence, stroke distances et al. to an expert.

Pictures show McLaren running the spare car no. 34 without the 'McLaren Cars' signwriting in practice at Brands, plus (as you say) racing in Germany, Canada (and also Italy) in presumably the same chassis.

The signwriting of the 'McLaren Cars' and the driver's name on the Colnbrook McLarens was hand painted (not decals), so presumably there was some problem finding time to get that tub painted.

yes I know these photos are not realistic but it was the last chance to show modelers all
the details from this kit before final assembly. A few years ago you gave the tip with the
correct color for the Hewland gear box, I hope it is better now, thanks.

Hi John - I've only just seen this thread now, astounding work. It looks fabulous.

(Years ago I didn't have the patience or the skill to complete a Tamiya 1/12 Ferrari 312, let alone even thinking about painting it where necessary)
