WRC 3

Insidesimracing and Team VVV are saying that it is a huge improvement over the last 2 versions, with narrower stages, better graphics, better co-driver sounds, and perhaps most importantly, much improved handling.
In fact Darin and Shaun of ISR were saying in their first look that it's far more of a sim now, and is on its way to perhaps usurping Richard Burns Rally (although you can imagine that handling probably isn't quite on the level of RBR), and Team VVV's hands on looks like a lot of fun, and we could finally have a new, very good dedicated rally game; something we haven't had since 2003!

There's the first developer diary. Talks about how they visited Monte Carlo and the new style and graphics.

Once again though, it looks like the US won't be getting this. I figured with the popularity of the (sub-par IMO) DIRT franchise, they'd at least bring this one over.
Hopefully it'll at least see a digital console release.

I love the DIRT games, but do have a craving for something a bit more 'sim' in rallying, and maybe this is it...
Haven't had the chance to download the demo yet, but have a week off from Tuesday so there's plenty of time then!

Downloaded the xbox demo, and i it feels much more like a sim than Dirt 3 atleast.I love the DIRT games, but do have a craving for something a bit more 'sim' in rallying, and maybe this is it...
Driving with the xbox controller, the car was a bit nervous at the front (easy to turn in too much clipping the inside), and i felt the controller was a bit clumsy. When trying to steer, brake, shift down and hit the handbrake at the same time to nail the hairpins, my hand where all thumbs As the xbox don't accept my g27 wheel i use on the PC, im stuck with the original xbox controller.
Gfx and sound was good, although the gfx felt a bit "cluttered". To explain, i prefer the clean look of iracing comapred to i.e. NFS shift series and other games/sims with more eyecandy. This is just a personal preference though, and the gfx felt smooth, which is even more important. The sounds was ok, but not as good as Forza to compare on the xbox.
All in all, my 20min of driving the demo was a positive experience, and if i am going to buy 1 motorsport game on the xbox this fall, WRC3 is ahead of f1-2012 atleast.... now where is that Forza Horizon demo...;)

Maybe I'm completely wrong, but somehow Dirt (whilst not perfect itself) seems to give that feeling of 'I'll try THIS with the car here!'. Maybe that's because it's more forgiving and allows guys like me to try things at the wheel that are way beyond our talent level. WRC3 is not so forgiving it seems... I couldn't get any decent handbrake turns going in the hairpins...
I think I will be buying it though, because despite my niggles it is very challenging, and for someone who's played every decent racing game/sim to death I need challenges...

1) Dynamic road surfaces - if you start later on in the order will the road appear 'swept' and grip levels changed?
2) Will the Citroen and the Ford have different physics, or noticeably different characteristics?
Questions are to anyone that has played it or has more info really

A couple of things I'd be quite interested to find out if it has is:
1) Dynamic road surfaces - if you start later on in the order will the road appear 'swept' and grip levels changed?
2) Will the Citroen and the Ford have different physics, or noticeably different characteristics?

1) No you won't see anything like that on the current generation of consoles.
2) I haven't tested all cars but they do all have different handling traits.

I've been busy putting together some previews on this, good fun so far.
...
Thanks for these. Enjoy your video's in general, very entertaining
I'm enjoying the demo for the x-box. One thing I didn't see in the setup options, or missed - can you not pick the type of tires to use?
I think I might be buying this - I got bored with Dirt 3 very quickly since the stages were so short, and there was a lot of other fluff in the game, that I didn't care for, so hopefully this might keep me entertained a bit longer.

Really? I've not played the F1 games on consoles, but I'd assume that they have the dynamic racing surface the same as the pc version? Shame really because it's an important part of rallying, and it's a feature I love in Richard Burns Rally. Will be buying the game though; hopefully increased sales figures this year will let the team know they're onto a winner, and will take it further on in this more realistic development direction.

Dynamic track is very different to rally, you're talking about physical deformation and the effects that would bring. Its complex, adds cost but you'd have to question the value and return on such an investment, especially on consoles that would struggle.
Yes it seems like they are building a good foundation and have taken on a lot from the fans this past few months, I will be meeting the dev team next week and putting a lot of questions to them. Suffice to say they know what they need to do and it looks good for the future.

Whilst it is an important part of rallying, it's something that like Alan has said is much more complex than dynamic tarmac, and is also something that (and I hate to say it) not many casual fans would understand. If you're looking to get somebody into rallying through this game, you don't want them getting frustrated at being inherently slower despite their best efforts just because they're running earlier on the road. That's something they'll learn about as they get further into the sport.

I just hope that you don't have to use career mode to unlock everything. I hate it when you pay good money for a game and then have to jump through hoops to be able to unlock cars and levels for the quick race modes (looking at you GT5....)

I searched just the other day for the demo on PS3. Is it not available in the US?
Apparently the game is not even getting a US release.
I just pre-ordered the game and cancelled Friday night, can't wait for this, first game I've pre-ordered in about ten years

But yeh, no US release. Lame.

There seems to be no way to race the historical cars etc. on any mode except the challenges.
No easy way to see your best time on a stage. I would love a GT style time trial to compete against your own times.

Agree on both counts. The fact that you can't take the historical cars for single stages is VERY disappointing. Also, as you play the career, it doesn't even open up the cars you get in the single stage mode. Hope they patch it.Just had first play tonight. Generally fun and I am glad all the stages are unlocked at start on quick mode. But two bugbears that hopefully a patch will fix.

Played it more, I'm totally dependent on the ABS aid. Drove the mini for one of the challenges (the 2nd) - what good fun it is, but I'd keep spinning out coming into the hairpins coz I get the braking all wrong. Also, as you get faster cars, the sense of speed is quite intense on the narrow stages.

The handling is a bit light as reviews and others have mentioned, but only a little bit. These cars still feel like pukka 4WD pocket rockets, and they do react to the environment well. Graphics are okay, don't have the previous 2 versions of this title so can't compare, but heard they weren't very good, so seemingly this is an improvement... It isn't in GT5 or even Codemasters territory, but it's not far off. The car models themselves are superb.
Multiplayer was quite fun. Only raced in the single stage mode, but it was quite cool that you were all racing at once, but as ghosts to each other. It gave you something instant to aim for, but kept the isolation feel of a rally.
Force feedback is okay... the strength is good, but as a side-effect to that there isn't much damping and consequently less feel than say GT5... my arms were sore after an afternoon playing this and sawing at the wheel, but it's no biggy, I just need less weedy arms... The 'lack of feel' isn't major, and it's certainly not making it undriveable, it just makes you work harder to place the car (could be just like the real thing for all I know!?!).
Tomorrow afternoon, and Rally Argentina, can't come quick enough!

I'm currently... 34th on the Col de Turini (PS3) atm, as well as on average in the top 10% (without too much effort) on most of the other countries and stages ... I just seem to be better at Rallying games than 'regular' ones.

Is it worth the price (Amazon has 'used-like new' for $73 shipping and all) to buy and have shipped stateside?
Would it even work here if I did?

Two Q's
Is it worth the price (Amazon has 'used-like new' for $73 shipping and all) to buy and have shipped stateside?
Would it even work here if I did?
Is that a console version? PS3 is region free for games, not sure about Xbox. I wouldn't say it's worth 73 bucks, but it's maybe worth 50-55.
It's worth getting, it's the only true rallying sim out there, as good as Dirt is, this is more for the 'purist'.

So who is where on any of the leaderboards?

Not me, fine on the fast flowing stages (eg. Sweden), but really suck on twisting dirt tracks, although I do only use a pad controller.
I hope they release a stack of DLC for this game, since half the IRC drivers are already in it, would love to see some more of the classic European rally venues - Ypres would be great fun.

Has anyone tried the Africa rally DLC?
#36
Posted 10 August 2013 - 18:03
Is anyone still playing this? Dug it out the other day and it is still enjoyable, although having a little trouble balancing the difficulty setting - I seem to be either 3 seconds ahead of the pack or 3 seconds behind everyone else.
Has anyone tried the Africa rally DLC?
I still play it now and then when I want to do some rallying... It's taken over Dirt as my go-to game for rallying. The handling and difficulty of the stages is some of the best, despite the presentation being a bit lacking.
Africa DLC is good, more of the same in terms of stage difficulty, with nice flowing sections and tough technical bits. I'd recommend it.

If you liked WRC3, you will love WRC4
As they are exactly the same game stages wise.
Only thing different is the cars.
Total farce, but somehow like Polyphony they get away with it!
