Here you go guys. Sorry, unable to find when the circuit opens, but here's the schedule of events:

http://www.formula1...._timetable.html

I read today that the circuit will open at 0730.

http://www.statesman...plan-to-/nSWTf/

The shuttles will begin running at 7 a.m. each day, 30 minutes before the track’s gates open

Yeah. I'd seen it somewhere before, but I saw it again that article & only posted the link as way for folks to see for themselves (as the article isn't really about that).

Right now there's so much in the media regarding this race that there's no way I can read through it all and still have any kind of a normal life. I probably skimmed that the first time and missed the part about shuttles & opening.

I posted the link to the COTA website for the timings. For some reason they have put that nugget of info in the transportation section.

No and the reason why is my beef with the organizers. But I've made my peace and look forward to a great race and hopefully some pride that my country is hosting a top-class F1 race and some pride-by-proxy that some of my internet friends are at the race. :)

Still looking for a room for the race? A couple of weeks ago we heard more hotel price info & told you all that hotel inventory would be increasing & prices would be dropping...

As of this morning, 221 Austin-area hotels have availability for Fri, Sat, & Sun nights, starting at $76/night in Austin.

http://www.hotels.co...c...;cpr=0&pn=1

Remember right after the race date was announced & everyone said they couldn't get a room in Austin except for a handful of ultra-expensive rooms? Somebody convinced the Austin hotel industry that price was no object to the incoming F1 crowd....& that shit blew up right in their faces. There are thousands of rooms right now as they get released from blocks & the price has been falling like a rock over the last couple of weeks.

I plan to do my best. I'll be carrying it around Fri and Sat, and then strapping it to the top of the back of the T12 GS during the race. <fingers crossed it gets on TV> (got one for Jp, as well).

Wow. I might not have been sitting at home next weekend... HAD I KNOWN THAT ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO.

Although the "potentially even worse than Montreal GA" would still have been the deciding factor. Hope someone can take some pictures for future reference...

Somehow I can't imagine any GA being worse than Montreal. If I ever go to Monza again, I might try GA there. There seemed to be a lot of good spots. Not only that, but they didn't do a very good job checking tickets in the Grand Stands. Our aisles were jammed packed with people that obviously only had GA. Made for a real pain in the ass going to the restroom or getting something to eat.

Yeah. I know it sucks, but it wasn't like this two months ago. The rooms were still blocked then and the ones that were on the market were priced in the ludicrous range. We were told about this a little while back & then passed it on. Then we watched as our sources were proven right.

Weather forecast is shaping up. Chances of rain are almost totally gone. Highs are projected to be low 70's with Saturday perhaps a little cooler (68). Overnight lows are high 30's and low 40's. Pretty typical weather for November. A few clouds so lots of sunshine and everything warms up quickly once sun rises.

Great job Austin! The circuit looks top class, both in layout and facilities. Give yourselves (and Tavo) a massive pat on the back. I've got some old family friends in Houston (which, if my geography is correct is nearish) i might have to pop over next year!

I've just noticed that US GP will clash with NASCAR season finale. I'm not a huge fan of NASCAR, but recently I started to follow it a little bit closer. However, this situation has no winners, wtf America?

F1 will lose, NASCAR will lose, Speed will lose, ESPN will lose and most importantly - fans will lose, because they'll have to pick one of the two.

I must admit this is a disaster from commercial point of view. I have no idea why would anyone want to do that, since obviously everybody will be losers.

I couldn't either, until I went there. The Powers That Be can have a rather elite sense of "what the punters can have".

They really don't have the same fans so it won't hurt either one. Though if they didn't clash you might get a few bored fans from each series looking at the other one.

Hmmm.....don't quite agree with that.
Obviously compared to NASCAR there is less interest in F1 for most folks I know, but that said they like racing in general, and given a choice I wouldn't have chosen to run them both at almost the same time.
Still, I'm sure it will turn out OK.

There is very little overlap. MOst Cup fans don't follow F1. Those that do, many would rather watch F1, particularly an inaugural event such as this. The F1 calnedar need to accomdate millions worldwide and a travel schedule and not just the hundreds of thousands that might watch in the US.

Great looking track.

As I said last year - looks like it's ideal for the Red Bull design philosophy. They're gonna clean up through the faster stuff.

I reckon the other drivers won't see what way that car went with Finger Boy peddling it.........

I'm here, but in San Antonio. I was going to drive up today, but decided to drive into Austin tomorrow.

I'm excited, but I don't know exactly what I am going to do on Wednesday and Thursday- other than see where the track is located so that I can get there quickly on race days. I am not planning to attend any of the concerts and I am not sure what else is going to be happening. If I was in Austin I suppose I could just hang and wait and see, but because I am 1 hour away, I will have to see if anything is going on when I happen to be there. Anyway, doesn't matter - will be great to be back in the shadow of racing once more :D

I wonder if there will be access to the circuit on Wed/Thursday? Anyone know?

According to COTA's website, the track will be closed on Wed/Thursday.
