However, unless I've missed something, the keyword search is so random the only way to find motor sport stuff seems to be to look under "car". Lots of tintoppery at Brands, for example - although I do wonder if they actually have the rights to some pictures as they seem familiar. That also applies to some of the sailing, which look very Beken of Cowes to me - certainly in terms of quality.

I don't think that's AVUS. It looks like the Nürburgring to me, and I suggest it's the 1936 German GP with #26 being the Severi/Dreyfus Alfa. There was no #26 in the other Ring races in 36/37.Interesting 1936 Auto Union AVUS shot: http://www.stilltime...;tpt;union.html

What an amazing collection (but difficult to search, as Richard said)

I think Tim is right, it does indeed look like the Nürburgring, and if that's the 1936 German GP, the Auto Union of race winner Bernd Rosemeyer is probably the lower one in that pic. The woman in the headscarf looks to me like Bernd's then wife famed aviatrix Elly Beinhorn, who he'd married just a couple of weeks earlier.

Indeed, my mistake. I was just scanning through quickly and jumped on what I thought was the obvious - wrongly! I hadn't blown the picture up, so had missed the Alfa hiding on the right. Note also Elly Rosemeyer in typical headscarf bottom right - and possibly the top of Ernst von Delius' bald head? Bernd partly hidden behind the chap in the homburg? And could that actually be der Führer they are talking to?I don't think that's AVUS. It looks like the Nürburgring to me, and I suggest it's the 1936 German GP with #26 being the Severi/Dreyfus Alfa. Also, whose Mercedes is that parked by the verge? That's obviously where those mechanics are running to ...

Some rare shots of the 1962 2000 Guineas at Mallory too, including Graham Hill in Rob Walker's Lotus (not identified) and an intriguing picture of Masten Gregory (misidentified as Moss!) looking backwards as Clark approaches.
I think Stirling was otherwise engaged.

Presumably the Mercedes is one of the two which finished the race, so it's either the Fagioli/Caracciola car in 5th or the Brauchitsch/Lang car in 7th. Assuming that's the driver walking back from it, I'd go for Lang, but it could easily be Rudi. Also, whose Mercedes is that parked by the verge? Strikes me more as a practice picture, Tim. Too many people standing around doing nothing in particular for it to be a race day - even post-race: no backslapping and congratulating going on. Or spraying of champagne ;)Definitely Elly and Delius, and very probably Bernd. I very much doubt they're talking to Hitler - I think we established in another thread that the only race he attended in that period was the 1934 Avusrennen.

The Merc driver looks too broad-shouldered to be Lang or Caratsch. Or Chiron or MvB either, come to that: could it be Fagioli?
I still think that looks like Hitler though: smart cap, with badge and braid, but no visible insignia on the double-breasted jacket. Who else dressed like that?

Good point. I'd assumed the Alfa was parked there having retired from the race, but as you say it's far more likely to be a practice shot.Strikes me more as a practice picture, Tim. This being 1962 Stirling was out of action due to the Goodwood shunt and in fact never raced again professionally in period.

Indeed - by my reckoning he'd only been out of coma about ten days at that point. This being 1962 Stirling was out of action due to the Goodwood shunt and in fact never raced again professionally in period.
(To be fair to FredF1, I think he probably knew that though. Is that Bass beer bottle lorry still at Beaulieu, BTW?)

Try entering your circuit/venue in the search box. Brands shows the first, snowy, rallycross I believe, in with some other good sports and s/seater stuff.

Fascinating pictures of The H.A.R. a car which some of those who watched motor racing in the 1950's felt an affection for. Only ever driven by its constructor Horace Richards the well built little car was always rather slow, but turned out in all sorts of F2 and Libre races. The car was built in 1952 at Smethwick and I assume that those pictures were taken at the time of its 'launch'(!).Some rare shots of the 1962 2000 Guineas at Mallory too, including Graham Hill in Rob Walker's Lotus (not identified) and an intriguing picture of Masten Gregory (misidentified as Moss!) looking backwards as Clark approaches.

That road car in the background looks pretty ancient though, even for 1952!.
