You must have forgotten your "mental zeal" posts. Stuff of legends,I used to laugh so hard reading those back then.

Only that that wasn't me. Talk about laughing hard... :drunk:

"Mental zeal" man, what a memory.

Indeed.

Edit: Made even better by the fact that trusty fieraku already mistook me for the mental zeal poster over a year ago:

Really? I'm disappointed.I've read many of your posts claiming to know Lewis better than he does himself. Mental zeal and so forth.

Looks like he does carry his "idée fixe" signature for good reason. :D

I think it will be legendary when the 2xWDC Lewis moves over to the falling legendary Silver Arrows and puts them back into victory lane again. Scoring titles 3-8 with them.

Big difference is we do not have vettel running off with the WDC this year.... Hamiltons 2011 was a one off and it still wasn't that bad. every other season he has been right up there.
......

Its not a poor Macca that made LH freak out .... it was the second best car.... it was SV's dominance in that year's Redbull that he had trouble coping with ...IMO

My point is that if Hamilton were in the "reliable Ferrari" he would be having to push an underperforming car to get it to places it didn't belong... So - the salient question is; do you think that Hamilton would be leading the WDC by 36 points were he driving the ferrari?

That question is what makes his move to Mercedes so interesting...

I don't know but I agree with the poster that mentioned Vettel's dominance being the major factor in his 2012 meltdown.

I don't think that would be the situation this year because macca haen't managed to dominate despite their pace advantage (when they've had it) and it hasn't been nearly as clear cut as 2011. Race pace has been very different to quali pace and macca had a few races where they struggled.

So the situation isn't a very good comparison.

As for mercedes, I think he'll do great relative to the car simply because of the level of expectation (his own)...that's not taking into account hopefully if 2011 happened again he'd have learned from it and not approach it in the same way.

This is true, from Australia he was already moody after coming second. I knew right there he was going to self destruct that year.

Well we had a couple of wet races and his car was good. Really one of the main reasons he has the lead like he does.

One thing we do know though is that Hamilton beat Fred when they were in equal machinery so seeing as we are extrapolating we could just as easily say Hamilton would have more points than Fred this year. :)

The same number of points, surely :)

Yep. Which in Hamiltons case makes it the usual thing. Well, almost.

Can't make much sense of it, other than it being an extension of his earlier claims how he developed this years car. Of course as a a chief developer he's bound to know all about next years car too, isn't he? ;)

Hamilton is playing mind games with Martin :drunk:

No. FA's poles were under fluky conditions in the wet, where the F2012 is good. In the dry is is and has always been a turd.

And will always be I should think, regardless of what the evidence tells us.

Spain was a dry race I believe? Canada too? Looked pretty good in the dry races of Valencia, Britain, Germany, Italy...

Some of the hyperbole around the Ferrari car is just ridiculous (and off-topic).

I got to say that was the worst qualifying I seen from Lewis. He seem to be really struggling.

The yellow flag made it worse than it seemed and he was probably on for fourth/provisional third, considering for his first run he was on semi-used tyres, but still a major disappointment.

Now he starts on tyres which got 2 heat cycles behind them and 5 laps.

4th sounds quite optimistic. Did you see his split times?

Starting on those tyres though is pretty unlucky. His long run pace looked good yesterday so hopefully his set-up will look after them.

No, he had no chance to get into the top three. In an Interview with german tv he just said, that he made the wrong Setup-Choice. He had too much understeer, couldn't get the Car to turn in.

Big mistake by Hamilton in the decisive stage of the Championship - as we are used to from the past. Seems he just doesn't have it.

Understeer is ok come race time though - it will save the rear tyres.

useless from 9th and on tires with 5 laps on them.

Looking like another everything that could go wrong... race

Expect nothing tmrw.

Can't understand why they entered with a shite setup though, considering the car was working well in P2 yesterday.... so damn frustrating.

Edit: just saw that he was marginally quicker on the yellows affected run...so will start the race on those. So not worst case scenario...yet.

In case you didn't see in macca thread he's not starting on those tyres.

Regarding set up - sounds like they changed it to a set up with more front end in FP3 and, although Lewis didn't say this, I suspect he preferred that but they changed back because it would eat the tyres in the race.

When I say he preferred it, I mean in terms of pace for quali, not that he wanted to run it as he said it was his decision.

What I don't understand, and this is just showing my ignorance in F1, is do they not know what factors affect understeer/oversteer? If it was a computer game and you simply had a gauge of understeer/oversteer you could adjust then you'd select what you think is the riht balance and if it was a bit too understeery just slowly dial it back until it's perfect...or until you've got a bit too much oversteer and you need to go back a little bit.

Here they've seemingly gone from too much understeer to too much oversteer and back again..or back even more because it didn't seem to be as bad in FP.

Guess it's complicated!

This will be a great result for him on the next few years - qualifying just inside the top 10 in a car that'll do well to maintain position!

Yeah, he's easily mislead. Was mislead to lie to the stewards by Ryan IIRC, exactly the same word.

Together with Spa, this give the impression of Hamilton not able to comprehend that JB could be faster than him, even in qualifying, once in a while. Two times now that happened, and each time Hamiltons side of the garage seems to have panicked, messing with setup and thereby making things even worse.

Not sure I understand you.

A) They choose the set up before qualifying so I presume you're talking about them not being able to comprehend Jenson being quicker in practice?
B) I haven't watched practice but wasn't lewis quicker in fp2 and a couple of tenths off in fp3?
C) Spa was a pretty unusual situation where there was a choice of two wings, not really a precedent
D)JB has been quicker in quali before with no such panicking, JB has been quicker in FPs before with no such panicking (and often with Lewis coming out on top in quali).

He was held up by Pic in the chicane on his fast lap, he was on a faster lap than JB IIRC.

Very disappionted with the qualifying, but anything can happen in the race tomorrow so im still optimistic.
Mclaren may not have the qually advantage we believed them to have, but lewis said in singapore that he was just cruising until his gearbox went, that raises some hope that they may still have a good race pace advantage.
