Yeah, I'd put it around 60-40 in Vettels favour.

Hoping Vettel isn't as good as he was on Valencia... what a beast.

Hope Lewis beat him.

Funny nobody has discussed qualifying on the primes here. The options degrade by some 0.3 secs a lap which means after 4 - 5 laps the prime will be the tyre to be on which is not enough time to guarantee track position after the first stop. If any of the top 10 qualify on options I feel those just outside of it will be licking their fingers...

Can somebody explain Pirelli's logic in bringing the super soft here considering what happened last year and the fact that the tyres are softer this year.

I predict the battle to be between Hamilton and Vettel witch Hamilton snatching the pole eventually, with both Lotuses and Massa struggling to get to Q3 with the Force Indias ans Williams.

Maybe Alonso will risk ?

I think it isn't the time to gamble, but saubers can do it.

Did it rain before qualifying already?

Lotus would be desperate to keep the track dry as their car has bad grip/traction. Ferrari on the otherhand would welcome rain to be able to challenge RBR and McL for the pole!

I've gotta go to the Singapore GP, the place looks amazing and I've always wanted to go to that part of the world. Seeing F1 under the lights would be the icing on the cake. Getting married next Autumn, so maybe look to do it in 2014.

But you still have to use the SS in the race. The situation could be similar to Canada 2010.

Yes but using it last guarantees you track position around a track where overtaking is not easy.

Won't those on prime just be held up by those on ssofts therefore gaining nothing (i.e. from laps 5-10 before they pit)

If they can get right behind the cars on supersofts before those guys pit, thats absolutely ideal fpr that sort of strategy cuz they'll have lost nothing to the guys in front and will have free track ahead afterwards.

Anyways, my prediction:

1) Lewis
2) Vettel
3) Button
4) Alonso
5) Grosjean
6) Webber
7) Kimi
8) Hulkenberg
9) Rosberg
10) Massa

But the ssofts guys will have got them out the way, they'll come out on prime and simply go past the others when they pit...unless they get held up by others which is unlikely because the field spread.

Perhaps I'm missing something but I don't see how the guys that start on orime will build a gap on their older tyres against the guys that started on ssofts who will be on fresher tyres in order to stay ahead when they pit.

Vettel has been unmatched this weekend and enjoys the same 3-4 tenth advantage in S3 as last year. I can't see past him for pole. Overall, something similar to the Bahrain grid is likely, in terms of the championship contenders, except Alonso who should be able to get third row.

Depends on how long those supersofts last compared to the primes. If its a really short time, the guys starting on the SS's will find themselves 10-15 seconds behind the prime runners in front of them after only a handful of laps. Theoretically yes, the guys starting on primes will still have to run the supersofts eventually and the advantage should be negated, but track position counts for a lot and they can also dictate a bit more when they use the supersofts.

Vettel for pole. The Red Bull retains the same insane amount of rear grip as it has done the past couple of years. Look at Monaco, look at Valencia, expect the same today.

Not sure how the guys on primes have got ahead by 10-15 seconds of those on prime? Surely the argument of track position/difficult to pass applie at the start too.

If the ssofts fall off after 5 laps, the guys on primes sail past and build a gap then I'd agree but I don't see that happening, I think the guys on primes will simply get held up.

Pole is between Vettel and Hamilton of course. No change there really, as the top two pace-wise has been those two in all sessions. Third then is between Alonso and Button, but Button should be able to pull this one off. Webber next, though he miiight be in the running for third.
I doubt Massa can get sixth, as the Lotuses are much improved and also H├╝lkenberg is flying.
I thought Maldonado and Williams would be sure Q3-contenders here, but I'm not so sure anymore. Then again Senna has shown relatively good pace so come qualifying Williams should be around row four and five I think.
Mercedes, always the enigma. I don't know what to expect.
Nice to see Symonds weight is being felt at Marussia.

To me it just looks like I've got a higher opinion of Hamilton than yourself, which I'm surprised at given I thought you were a big fan of his. You'll note I'm not the only one here who thinks Hamilton will be on pole.

When the guys on options pit, they will fall behind some of the prime runners unless they have pulled a gap, which requires reasonable tyre life.

Vettel vs Hamilton for pole, pole should be a high or mid 46 I reckon.
