This is the McLaren Mk 2 I last drove in 1967. It was restored for the current owners Bob Hardison and Paula Hardison by Ike Smith with help from many.

I have just returned from a weekend taking part in the HMSA event at Coronado, California on the North Island Naval Base. I am going to show the Forum members what it was like to be a part of the Cris Vandagriff run HMSA 15th annual races at Coronado. And what a great event it is and the wonderful people who attended this event.

Robert won the CanAm group race on Saturday in his Mk 6 McLaren, on Sunday he had gearbox issues.

This was the first Vintage race that Gary and Vicki Knutson had ever attended and it was the first Vintage race that Jerry Entin has ever participated in.

Thank you David Pozzi for all the help on the weekend and it was great getting the chance to drive my McLaren Mk 2 once again.

This car was also beautifully driven by Tom Malloy, his crew had it running perfectly. Very well presented car.

I would like to thank Chris Hines and his whole Arrowlane Group for their help all weekend long.

Art: It was alot of fun to get behind the wheel after not doing it for 44 years. I can't thank Bob and Paula Hardison enough for giving me the chance.

Also Paul and Robert Ryan for helping make it a great weekend for us. And of course Ike Smith and David Pozzi for bringing the car to Coronado.

Jerry,

It was great to meet you in person! I'm glad you finally got the chance to get the McLaren on track again after delays earlier in the year. Will you get to race it again any time soon?

While our King Cobra suffered from a control arm failure, the GT350 ran like a dream all weekend.

Hope to see you at another race again soon.

Donn

P.S. Great shot of the Knutsons, Robert, yourself and my good friend Mr. Knoop. Speaking of the latter, have you seen his Knoop-Mann special? It's not vintage, but it looks the part and goes like Hell. I liken it to a "vintage" Panoz LMP, if such a car existed.

Thank you David. Next time you see her, LMK and we can go for a ride! The passenger's seat is a bit cramped, but once you're in it's a fun ride. :)

Jerry, after the Elkhart no show I'm so glad you could do this! 44 years, amazing. I'll bet it was 'a lot of fun!' I was there in '68, in 3rd Grade.

Per the Bobsy I thought that was a SR3. Al Beasley ran one in Midwest club races forever.

Great to see Robert Ryan still running the M6A also, saw him in it 11 years ago. Forever, the way it should be done.

Looks like a lovely event, too.

Paul Ryan in his Lotus Super 7
Paul Ryan ran Saturday without any lining on his left rear brakes. That problem was fixed for Sunday and he got a 7th overall in his group.
Paul lives on Coronado Island and had a party for family and friends on Saturday night. It just so happens his brother Robert Ryan had won the group 7 race earlier in the day.
Group 5 was won by Tim Brecht in his 1969 BMW 2002 TA.

Tom Malloy in his very fast Lola T 70 Coupe
One of Paul Ryan's neighbors Beth Delano had attended her first Vintage Sportscar race and watched Robert win. She was telling me this guy in this black car was all over Robert in the race and she was hoping he wouldn't pass Robert. It was Tom Malloy in his Lola T-70 Coupe. I told her come over here with me. I introduced her to Tom Malloy. I said you know that black car that you thought was going to beat Robert, well this is the driver. Tom just smiled and said he tried to get him but it was Roberts day. Beth was thrilled to meet him. Tom drove a really great race.

Your son has a good eye. ncourage him and get him enrolled in some classes; he'll only get better and it will help him in his other classes.
