Well we don't have an officially not-unofficial official 2014 thread yet. We have a silly-season one, but I can't comment on it's official status.

Looks like someone at 16th & Georgetown has been reading our IndyCar OP's

Behold this silly graphic of which channel each race is on..

The unbalanced look of that map suggests to me that we desperately need an Indycar race in Meridian, Idaho.

I never loved or hated Page, mainly he's just recognizable as the guy who called the first race I ever watched on TV (1995 Indy 500) but somehow it seems like just after getting rid of Bob Jenkins, inviting another 70-year old guy to be the voice of IndyCar seems like a dumb idea. Happy to be proved wrong, though.

Still the idea of bringing back the past is going to bring the series forward is still flowing through the series and it's backers. I think the same about Montoya. Bringing him back will bring some attention, but if he crashes and burns (not literally) on the track, will it be a good thing for the series.

Actually, you're replacing a 66-year old with a 68-year old, but it plays perfectly to the demographic.  Andrew, don't you and some of the other young whippersnappers here realize you aren't supposed to be interested in racing?

Announcing is one of the few things where older, sadly, seems better (see Vin Scully).  I blame communications classes at our institutions of higher learning.

At least Page is very much an enthusiast. And even if he got lost at times, it would be hard to top Jenkins in that department.

Who was the one that pronounced it Ma-shoo-sta?

I always thought Mot-shoosh-ta would be the proper pronounciation?

Favorite Page moment came during a qualifying telecast. He was getting ready to say (Kenny) Brack was on pole when the next car out topped it: "Brrr-AHH, he's on the pole!"   Any time an announcer gets overly excited or has a problem, I've been known to utter: "Brrr-AHH, he's on the pole!"

Then of course, there was the story about Robin Miller's great comment at Phoenix after Wally Dallenbach explained a situation to the press box (hey, I've been there, I know how it works). I believe I've posted that one before :D

I need to brush up on my US Geography. I can't identify a few of those states.

Please tell it again. Some of us youthful types may not have heard it.

Based on Japanese lessons a long, long time ago I think it'd be Ma-tsu-shi-ta. Which also means we're not pronouncing Ho-N-Da or To-Yo-Ta properly.

I think you're right Ross. And, no, we're not pronouncing anything right :D

Brush up on your Japanese and catch on as an English speaking PR rep.  All the squid chips, natto and anime you can eat.

At Phoenix one year, there was confusion after an accident.  The pace car picked up the wrong car and waved others by.  The yellow was extended to sort things out and get the scoring straight.  Wally Dallenbach, CART steward, stepped into the press box to explain what happened and what they were doing. Robin Miller said: "That's all fine Wally, but who's gonna explain it to Paul Page?"

(full credit to Bakersfield Californian motorsports writer Mike Griffith for that story)

That reminds me of my press box moment, but it belongs in a NASCAR thread (even though it was a regional series).

Namely the ones that don't have IndyCar races, right? :p
