Comcast/NBC is very New York City based, with their sports studio located at the GE Building (where everything NBC related seems to be made), it makes sense that Hobbs and Matchett will be see a different locale from Charlotte.

NBC Sports is in Connecticut.

Fontana seems to return to being a 400-miler.

You mean Pocono? That's down as 160 laps of 2.5miles. Fontana is still 250 laps of 2 miles.

Really looking forward to seeing them on Pocono. Also looking forward to seeing them in the flesh at Indy! Oh yes.

Looks like Iowa's going to go back to being a day race. Wonder if they'll do the heat races this time.

Answering my own question, via Indycar's official website:

Three 50-lap heat races, including transfers to Race 3 for the top two finishers in the first two qualifying races, will determine the starting grid for the seventh Iowa Corn Indy 250 on June 23 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.

The format for heat race qualifications on June 22 also will reward 12 starters with points – from nine points for the pole winner and descending by one point each position to one point for 11th and 12th. Other IZOD IndyCar Series events, outside of the Indianapolis 500 with its own points framework, pay one point to the pole winner.

With the ability to race your way into the top heat, this is pretty much what drivers asked for. Paying points for the final grid positions might make things a little racier too.

Shit...
Well, I hope she finds a decent ride for the 500 at least.

Never thought much of the Chavez war chest drivers.
I used to refer to EJ as Milka without the talent.

Sorry, that's mean.

He's been crashing a lot less recently, but not much in the way of good runs in 2012 (just four finishes inside the top 10).

Initial press release said 200 laps at Fontana, must have been a typo that they corrected in the mean time. :)

I had assumed Pocono would be a 500-miler aswell for the 'Triple Crown' status.

I only got around to listening to last weeks MWM yesterday and they were saying about the silence from IMS and that IndyCar was completely off the radar. Maybe they were listening and got some press-releases out!

Better squeeze out that money oil before El Chefe moves on.
I guess the fact that Andretti had considered her seriously is at least a consolation. But america is still a better place to race if you are a woman.

She did better in Brazil than the US, if we just count results on paper.

Not sure why Belle Isle wouldn't work for standings starts. If they feel that the front straight being curved is an issue, Monaco has do it for decades without any real carnage or trouble, and that circuit is much narrower.

The front straight at Detroit has an actual corner though so maybe you can't fit the whole grid in a straight line.

Though Toronto's last turn is kind of close to the start-finish isn't it?

Yeah. At six minutes or so in: http://www.youtube.c...?v=NmHzGXjyaIQ; even with 17 cars that pack of the pack is very close to the final corner.

Houston would be pretty close based off the last time that layout was used.

I thought the front straight at Belle Isle was even narrower than Monaco. But I assume the kink is the real problem there.

Like the sound of a 30 minute open session for the race 2 grid. Rather traditional in today's world of complicated elimination qualifying.

Is BB going to stay in his job? I recall him hitching his wagon to Randy Bernard. We certainly don't need a return of BB to that job.

Unhitched:

But, as nervous as I was when [Bernard] left, it was clear very quickly after he was gone that there were powers that were continuing to pull in that same direction.

Obviously, Jeff Belskus stepped right in and assumed the leadership role with great style. That’s obviously not something IndyCar fans have been able to witness on their own. He was very open with everybody and very decisive, very direct. Ultimately, it didn't take long at all for probably everyone within the IndyCar organization, especially the executive staff, to immediately gain some confidence in how things were happening and the direction that we were going.

Ultimately, for me for what I've experienced internally, I have great confidence in the direction that IndyCar is going. I know that people like to read a lot into it and like to make a lot of assumptions and some of it gets very negative and it's frustrating to read that. I think it's very difficult to see what truly happens within an organization, but after a year on the job, I’m pleased with what I see going on behind the scenes.

Glad to see Beaux back in the saddle again.
A friend from BSI sent me a clip of their on-boards from last year.
Hope they are used on the broadcast to a greater extent this season.

The track has changed at Belle Isle. I will have to review the picture I took yesterday of the track, but I think the front straight is much longer now.

Wasn't the right-hander at the end of the shortened T2-T3 straight the place where Hinch crashed after the track surface started falling apart?

Marshall Pruett's article on the last few seats says..

The Viso deal is NOT DONE

"Of late, Viso has been linked with options from HVM to Panther, but with Andretti Autosport determined to expand back to four cars, the 27-year-old driver/businessman has been one of the prime candidates to join the reigning series champions. An inaccurate report on Monday had a Viso-to-Andretti deal as being completed."

Hope for our Bia yet...maybe?

After that, at turn 6. A section removed with the return of the older layout.

There may be hope for Bia, but it seems like hope for our own DanicaFan is rapidly diminishing...

Also this story is gonna make NASCAR coverage AWKWARD, like Brangelina awkward, so can we never mention it again.

Why did he basically admit it, but in a corporate way? He could have just said "we're friends".

The Viso denial wasn't much of a denial. I think the Team Andretti quote was "nothing has been signed, nothing is confirmed"

Well, we had Smokey breaking up with one of his drivers in the past, so this is just another step up.

One thing I did not see was a possible replacement for the «third engine». Is the series happy with just 2 suppliers? I recall reading a lot about Honda and Chevy complaining about being full, did the IMS throw a few more bucks to keep them happy? Not that just 2 proven engines is bad, it's certainly better than having an engine that is below crap.

It was in the printed magazine today that Karthikeyan is touting for an Indycar drive (pretty sure this came up late last year too?), and comes with the usual TATA backing - needs additional backing for a full time ride though.

If he's needs additional funding past his long time backer, then how is he still in the running for an F1 seat?

He did well that season in NASCAR Trucks. And in A1GP he was pretty fast, so outside F1 in the right situation he wasn't terrible. But if he wanted to run IndyCar for 2013, he'd have locked up a seat months ago, unless Penske is going to take a pay driver.

I presume less exposure from Indycar sponsorship means lower funds provided to him?

Yes, having re-read his career stats, he seemed pretty good in spec series so if he had a good ride in Indy then perhaps he'd do reasonably well. I forget which teams the article linked him too, but it was some of the bigger ones.

Andretti and Ganassi clearly have the capacity to run a fourth car, so why not Karthikeyan? Sposnorship permitting.
