That makes me kind of sad because the chances of Newman/Haas returning get more slim. At least Original Recipe, because more and more of the crew is working other places. Which is good for them individually, obviously.

I was under the impression their 2012 withdraw was simply a way to warp the tent before things got worse. Wasn't there some issues with the Newman name as well?

Let's hope this is the step Viso needs to become a true championship threat.

Step away from the HEROIN Risil...

Oh..you mean a threat TO the championship.

Took him long enough to see the light and return to open-wheelers, about 7 times longer than it took Dario to realize the same thing. Okay, maybe I'm being unfair.

a driver only has to do enough to stay in and then really throw everything on those final races. It basically voids 2/3 of the season as you can be crap for most of the season and still be a champion.

Welcome to American sports, buddy.

Artificial Wet Race
Crazy, I know. But just race where the circuit will be wet (via sprinklers) would be an event. For the fans it would be the best wet race ever since they won't get wet!

Bernie pls

It's not. It's free - if you've already subscribed to it on your Sky box. Really misleading.

Well, this is all a real pain. Damn you Sky. Are there any other ways of watching the series?

Of course. You can snaffle around for streams online when the race has started, but you usually miss the start, endure low quality and get disconnected when it gets exciting....

So basically the 4th Andretti car is the 1st HVM car. So it's not a logistical drain on them, in fact it adds economies of scale, and they get the prize money for that entry.

Clever.

The stream I've been using for the past seasons has invariably been pretty excellent. it's nascar-centered but theres very few drops and the quality is excellent. Shame besweet stopped doing streams, his were awesome.

Yes please.

Thanks for that dank.

Now the questions are...
Will all the races be live?
Will they move them around between their 3 channels?
Do they even know about the double header weekends?
Will they have a studio or just the raw US feed from NBCSN?
I could go on...

I think the most important question is: will they be around to broadcast the entire season?

Well, I can tell you 100% that even in the unlikely event it airs live in ESPN America it will be geo blocked because of the Sporttv vampires.

I guess that means no Sky this year.

Well how fitting that IndyCar goes to a channel that's bailing out of the market it just secured coverage in.

If Disney control syndication of Indycar racing overseas, did any money necessarily change hands for the ESPN UK deal?

Well it beats paying for the coverage. For a series with four- or five-figure viewing averages, that's Deal of the Century stuff. :D

Well, with HVM being part of the deal, Andretti probably doesn't have to buy much more in the parts department. Well, they don't until Barber...

Kinda wish he'd bugger off back home, but his money talks a good talk, and while no true slouch, he floats around the series like Liuzzi did in F1. Not sure what to expect though. Mike Conway had that fourth Andretti seat in 2011, and he wasn't much to talk about outside finding himself in the lead at the end of the LBGP.

Conway actually crashed more than Viso did in 2011. Still, he has the win and Viso doesn't. Conway's results prior to GP2 are much better as well, it's a shame he didn't keep up that level of success in the bigger cars.

Guess I won't be following Indycar this year then, nor will many others; ESPN's output isn't worth the extra £10 a month fee, always assuming that they don't withdraw from the UK altogether, they have apparently never covered their costs over here.

I would watch no other of their output, so in a month with two races I'd be looking at £6.50 per race for races that may not be and let's be realistic, probably won't be, live. I wouldn't moan at £13 per month if I knew every race would be live, as I was paying £21 for Sky Sports, but up to £6.50 for tape delay ain't happening.

Interesting that they won't commit to live though. All sports schedules are out there, so may they want to see the viewing figures. Would be awful if the figures are similar or worse than Sky and they drop showing any race live by even mid-season.

me neither- they messed about with DTM as well- I subscribe to Premier for NASCAR but they show that live every week (plus the Trucks live and delayed this year)- so I get my moneys worth from that- but £10 a month just for Indy Car??? no thanks- shame I enjoyed it last year- they'll be finding that the already tiny fanbase will be getting much smaller

Few good options for sure, but £10 a month for delayed transmission ain't good :(

For that one channel or the cable package that give you that channel (as well as others)? I know I used to spend $50 more a month to get the package that gave me Speed so I could watch F1.

£10 for the channel if you already have the Sky Sports package (I do). £13 if you have Sky but not the Sports Pack.

In theory you could cancel Sky Sports if you don't watch their non-F1/Indycar output, take up the HD pack which includes the F1 channel (and is cheaper) and ESPN as a single channel instead. Have to do the math and work out which other channels you'd lose (Eurosport? Motors TV?) though. It gets complicated!
