I've been told by a current ESPN subscriber that they're currently advertising that they'll be showing both Indycar and NASCAR in 2013. That's less than great, as they've already threatened tape-delays if a higher-profile event clashes. That's already a factor, now you've got to add in that now they have two race events that often are taking part at the same time...makes you wonder if we'll see a single live race all year.

I remain in the 'undecided' bracket over whether to bother spending £13 a month for the above. Going to ride it out until the first race day if need be and see if Sky do one of their 6-months for half price deals.

Wonder how this falls under the MSA? It isn't tobacco, but it is the same drug being targeted. But hey, I like the idea. It is a sponsor who is choosing IndyCar, not NASCAR in it's various levels.

I wonder if it's the same deal as cigs, they can't get on TV so they got through racing?

Ross this may be the key to your sponsorship conundrum.
You need to invent an electronic cigarette that also takes a glucose test to aid diabetics.

ESPN (in the UK anyway) only have the 1hr generic Nascar highlights package that everyone gets (eg Sky had that last year). Premier Sports actually show NSCS live.

I wonder if you could do something with the exhale phase, because that's how they do metabolism testing.

E-cig ads are legal on U.S. tv.

There is one with Stephen Dorff that airs all the time on cable and late-night broadcast television.

Rubbish. It's a silly, temporary internet fad, and should be treated (or ignored) as such.

Bar stools in a bar mate..
If you look on your Sky satellite you'll see channels 445+447.
It says "Sailing1 & Sailing 2" come July whatever these will become BT Sport.
... MIGHT even be less than the ESPN monthly charge.

But from the 1st race till the end of July one fears ESPN will be giving rather less than 2 monkeys about anything so..
It's as the taco eating caveman says .

So does that mean no access on Sky at all?

Guess it's dodgy streams or nothing then...

It only suggests existing subscribers will be unaffected for now. Which means they're closing it down on all but BT Vision of course.

Yes indeed, I guess once again my Indycar viewing will be coming with Portuguese commentary...

I'd given up on IndyCar anyway- I was prepared to pay for Sky Sports for IndyCar and Mens ATP Tennis, but I'm not paying for ESPN just for IndyCar- and can't be bothered with web streams- I've done it on occasion for DTM and it's just a pain in the neck.

It's a shame as I enjoyed the series last year. Oh well I'll just carry on watching NASCAR on Premier SPorts and Motors TV. Now I just have to decide whether it;s worth getting Sky Sports just for the tennis

IndyCar will have no real TV prescence in Europe soon

Why not redo the point payouts? This current points system is what allowed NASCAR in the early 90's to become a bore in the championship. Go back to the CART system, or even the FIA system seen in F1, WRC, WEC. Forget the whole playoff crap. Hasn't really made NASCAR anymore appealing or exciting.

I like this part though:

"Focus on excitement of real racing; daredevil drivers defined by winning, racing at thrilling speeds," the report said, as a way to distinguish IndyCar from NASCAR's "amusing entertainment: off-track drama and partying."

And sadly it has been the place where a lot of news about Indycar were made in the past.

The report seems to have good ideas, but this idea is not good in my opinion:

IndyCar should split the schedule into two seasons — a 15-race U.S. calendar from April to August and an international series during the offseason. The championship would be decided during the U.S. season

Er.... I don't think having the season ending in August will help it's visibility, all other major series (bar the WEC) are running expanded shedules that last almost a full year. Right now the Indycar season feels small compared to the other series.
Also.... how exactly will the series get the teams (which are US based) to race in other countries when there is no points and the actual season has ended?

In 2006, they cut the schedule back to end in September due to the series feeling they'd lose viewership to the NFL.

If they wanted to do a two championship, they could run it like how the Superstars touring car series does it. Count all the races for a major title, but in their case, they count points for an Italian championship and the main championship is the International series. Break it up maybe with the International Series the sub-championship? Don't mess with the schedule, just give sub-championships. Didn't really work with the road/oval thing they tried a few years back, but if you get a few Euro rounds, you might attract a team or a few drivers onboard.

It's not a question of whether of want, but can he? Albeit not with the best teams in KVRT and RLL, but when he got it right, he did pretty well. But he's with Foyt now, and outside a podium in the odd Toronto race last year by Conway, Meira and the host of drivers (including defending champ Hunter-Reay) to hold that seat in the last decade and a half haven't brought much to be excited about for Sato. Maybe that is what Sato needs though. To have the far from Japanese A.J. chew him out after an incident.

The guy knows his stuff.

Too bad he can't cloak his words in management-speak and earn big bucks telling the truth, when someone pays more for the advice, they take it more seriously.
