heh
35k to the winners?
Might as well buy a race horse, it costs less to feed, stable and transport than a ten man team, and a a hell of lot less to buy and put a jockey on it.

They can't have spent 1.5m on that. That's like...uh...$10,000 a page? I'd have sold you my collected CART/IRL/Indycar wisdom from this forum's archives for 10k.

I do like the Indycar payouts though. They give the money to the teams upfront as full-time entries. If you start paying it out performance related, Chip and Roger are going to end up with a much bigger slice and Dale Coyne a much smaller. And who needs that money more? And it's money earned by the entire series so should benefit the entire series. There's already way more money in performance based money, it's called sponsorship. So give Bryan Herta as much as Michael Andretti and let em compete for the rest.

Because no matter how you pay it out, the pie isn't getting much bigger.

I think the per car league payout is slightly above 1 mil a car, as Robin pointed out, with out they would have about 10 entries.
I'm not surprised at all that NASCAR is attractive to the drivers, they can make bundles more money racing in NASCAR than in OW.
You would be amazed what it pays to have a speaking part in a 30 second spot, on top of all the other bucks they make.
I did a regional commercial where I had only one line, and it only ran for a few weeks. I got checks from every market it ran in and make like 25k for one days 'work'. Those guys are running nationals so they bring in major bucks off of that gig.

Dude how do I get into the talkies?

Work in Hollyweird for 20 years as I did.
I did set design and construction, and I was on a set one day when someone didn't show up to be in a commercial.
Totally just lucked into it, plus I was a poker friend of the director, which didn't hurt either.
Of course every time he was on losing streak after that, he was always asking for his cut...

I really hope Windtunnel will find its place somewhere when SPEED channel gets abolished. I'm guessing not... They've already nixed WRC and other racing series... T_T

Er, you folk do realise what was "leaked" wasn't the actual report? Also, I'm surprised nobody's suggested live streaming the races online (which IIRC used to be the case for a couple of years). Use a subscription fee to cover the cost and you expand your viewer base significantly.

• The IndyCar Series lost one high-profile Brazilian with an F1 pedigree in the offseason with Rubens Barrichello switching to his domestic stock car series, but Bruno Senna, nephew of his mentor Ayrton Senna, could be in the frame to fill that void with a part-time drive on road and street courses. Senna, who lost his seat at the Williams F1 team for 2013, recently signed to drive for the Aston Martin Racing GTE team in the FIA World Endurance Championship, but could be on the IndyCar entry list on a few non-conflicting weekends.

What's wrong with that? Though it seems kinda unlikely for some reason.

That was my thought too.

I'm just curious, in general, why anyone would want to denounce the desire of any driver moving on to drive what he likes, or something close to it? I still get excited by high-powered open wheel cars after all of these years. I've been to at least one Indy Car race every year for the last 45-years and a lot of Formula One events too. I also officiated for the CART series for over a decade - I'd like to believe that some of the drivers just might love it even more than I do. If budget allowed, I'd be in a vintage Indy Car or Formula One car (trust me, I'd be happy with a shifter-kart) every day I could to "work-out" with, and to stay sharp, mentally and physically - plus the pure fun and exhilaration. I just can't imagine why anyone would not want to see a driver pursuing this same passion in whatever mode of racecar he desires, Indy Cars included.

Add me to the list of people who'd like to see Senna in Indycar. He showed a lot of ability before he reached F1 and you could fill a phone book with the names of great Indycar drivers who raced in Grands Prix without distinction.

An idea that I think might work well is increase the purse at races, but not a lot. Continue support of the teams at 750k a year. The bottom 3 teams that return the next year get an extra stipend, lets say a 250,000, to pay a driver. IndyCar could make a list making sure they aren't specifically "pay" drivers. I think this would bring in better talent into the sport, reach more countries, and bring a larger world wide corporate base for sponsorship. It would also get rid of the' "he is only here because he has the money", argument. If s team wants a "pay' driver than let them and we will move the stipend to another team.

Unless the poster is thinking it means Ana Beatriz loses the seat and she's a particular favorite of that poster.

Otherwise, one of the bad raps the Racing Comments forum gets is it being populated with fanboiz. Those who greatly like a particular driver and hate seemingly most other drivers for purely immature reasons...something they have to remind of us often :)

Unlike myself, who dislikes a couple of drivers for purely mature reasons :D (sorry, just taking the piss out of myself)

...or perhaps it's the comparison of Bruno Senna to Rubens. Which would sort of fit fanboism.

Or they see Bruno Senna as replacing Rubens...

Oh Hell, I give up trying to figure out RC posters :)

You mean again? :drunk:

Wasn't he in line to take Barrichello's seat at Honda too, before the financial crisis/Honda Humiliation/Brawn GP took over?

Must be bankrolled by Dale Coyne then, as his brother couldn't get a decent Indy Lights seat due to funding.

Wasn't completely useless. 6 of his 7 podium finishes and 1 of his 2 wins came on road/street circuits. Can't imagine much in the way of results though. While it is the second DCR car, and not much is ever expected from that seat, but like you said, of all people, why him?

Yes but not in the same time. In 1984 Corrado Fabi replaced Teo for a few races at Forsythe.

Did you actually watch the 2012 race at Barber? Besides, nobody likes one-team, one-driver domination judging by the response to Vettel and Schumacher in F1.

Like said above me, what is wrong with that? They are all using the same car, and the Honda and Chevrolet engine packages were meant to be pretty dang equal.
