Ugh, I can't make St Pete this year even though its like 10 minutes from me... I really hope they keep around for next year, its a neat configuration and its a crazy amazing atmosphere when they come to town... Just want to be able to see an Indy race without having to drive a million miles away :o

I don't see St. Petersburg leaving the schedule. While not a very well attended race (Good circuit, but really a lack of good view points from a attendees standpoint), it is Florida, during the late winter, early spring, and is the opener. I think a real chicane (I know that wanting to add chicanes is taboo) going into the final corner would benefit the circuit.

Looks like ESPN are showing the first round live in the UK at least (4:15 pm channel 417 on Sky). Wonder how long this will last...

Not very. The second race doesn't appear in their live fixture list, but third race does.

Thanks!

Darn it! Kinda spoils the fun for those of us who like to hang out on the comment threads during the race. Unless you want to go looking for a dodgy stream :well:

Yeah. Currently toying with the idea of adding ESPN this week. Is it worth £13/mth to me though? If every race was live, then maybe.

May aswell chance it with streams.

The official organ confirms.

(Guys I made a thread about next weekend, it's not about Lewis Hamilton, I think we make enough threads about him.)

You're probably better off just looking at the ESPN UK site's live fixtures page, which has for several days shown round three as being live on ESPN, which (to date) has not been reflected in the above link.

Is there a reason there's no race this weekend?
F1 is off.
Which is optimum for IC to gain for viewers, right?
Their schedule needs a serious rethink.

Their season start at damn near the same time, do you think Indy organizers are waiting for Bernie to release his schedule? These evenst take time and planning.

It's Easter. I'm pretty sure race attendance and ratings would be down due to a majority of people that observe that holiday.

edit: the only thing running is like BTCC; but they're crazy :p

Exactly. And even while most do not celebrate the holiday in the religious sense, it's a few days off of work (right? I get more days off for this holiday than Easter at my college.), which mean they still get together as a family, they travel. But not to races states or cities away.

Easter. Ok. Still, IndyCar needs to run on weekends that F1 is off. I realize scheduling conflicts are not always easy to avoid, but you can't me tell they( IC) don't look at F1, and try to race on opposite weekends. It's just baffleing IMO.

As long as they don't race at the same time as Montreal, Austin, or Interlagos; there's no clash.

Well, here the races are like 3am for most of the european/far east races. So the amount of people watching f1 live is highly marginal. In most cases indycar comes on before the f1 replay.

I see what you mean... but i'd bet putting indycar on the same weekend of f1 might actually increase ratings.

Well in the UK, Sky gradually pushed ICS into a black hole (from Sky Sports 1\2 to red button on Sky Sports 4) and now ESPN has it which costs a minimum of £6pcm to a subscriber (no service providers offer it in a combined package). Now, ESPN does have popular sports like football on their current schedule, but that might not continue for the whole year so viewing figures will be worse than 2012 in all likelihood.

That stinks.. because this season looks like its going to be the closest competition that its been in the past few years

RIP Ralph Sanchez, architect of the IMSA (and for one year, CART) Grand Prix of Miami at Bicentennial Park; father of the rather charismatic Homestead-Miami complex which hosted Indycar racing between 1996 and 2009; and the man who gave Emerson Fittipaldi his first race drive in the States.

This. Having gone to the Indy 500 and last years Alabama GP, there does not seem to be an overlap, in terms of attendance.

Went to the original race at downtown Miami where he persuaded Emerson Fittipaldi to get back into racing. Then it moved down the street to Bicentennial Park. It had a really good vibe but it also had some hellacious rain storms at the first few race weekends.

He was the driving force that brought big time racing to South Florida.

You know what kind of people get excited to visit Alabama? ............................ People who live in Tennessee. ;)

Fixed that for you.

I hope Sato has a good showing, and Foyt's pit crew has practiced their stops since the last race.

I noticed they actually have Sato shirts now on Indy's website. I hope they have some at the race. My dog ate my old BAR Honda hat.

So this weekend either I have to

(a) stay up to 3-4am Monday morning and spend the day at work trying to stay awake ; or
(b) record it and avoid using the Autosport site and my iPad & iPhone for a whole day (yikes!); or
© find one of the aforementioned dodgy streams and spend the evening closing random pop-ups for penile implants and Chinese brides (which will no doubt appear just as a pass for the lead is about to be made or Will/Dario decides to back it into the wall)

It's a hard life being a British Indycar fan these days

Chase Austin, not Steve Austin. Not sure where that fits now, since Conor Daly is announced for the 41 car for Indy.

Not sure Steve Austin could fit his steroid built body in a race car.

Don't think Foyt will roll out a 3rd car. I see Schmidt-Peterson doing so, as well as KV.
