I don't see mandating twin turbos as necessary. Honda seem to have had a number of good races recently and seem to be fairly close to Chevy most of the time.

Luca Filippi rumored to be replaceing Tag at Bryan Herta at Mid-Ohio.

Source? Would be a big surprise...

Indeed.

It's also the only discernible difference between them, surely that was THE selling point?

Honda,Hosed...

The rumor was that Honda was going to introduce their twin turbo motor at end of season for 2014 campaign so they weren't really hosed they were just standardizing what was going to happen anyway. Honda has realized the single turbo was not the way to go

Completely random driver announcement on the horizon.

Literally did-not-see-coming stuff.

Lucas Luhr with Muscle Milk backing in a second SFHR car at Sonoma, I hear. Must be on a weekend off for the ALMS.

Random indeed. With all of the the reported discontent around LMP1-less USCR, I wonder if this is a toe in the water of some kind to run a full-time Muscle-Milk Indycar program in the future. Seems a little odd as I'd have expected a WEC program long before an Indycar program.

Problem with Greg Pickett was that he wanted to buy a 2014 LMP1 Porsche to run as a privateer, and as far as the sportscar media was led to believe, he was turned down because (at least for the first year) the LMP1 factory teams will not sell cars to privateers. Therefore, with no LMP1 in USCR next year, he's probably looking for other things to do for his team.

Racing is like the aviation industry. Something goes wrong and they freak out trying to figure out what happened.

Football is "oh, did that guy get injured or something?".

That mentality is why I've watched less, and less of the NFL each passing year.

The league is run by, and covered by a bunch of hypocrites.

The injuries in football don't really matter because the impact many times shows up long after the player retires, and at that point no one actually cares. Kind of sad to be honest.

First time since '98 that Luhr will be in a open wheel race car as well.

That's a bit off the wall, but hey, we're not going to turn down a talented driver are we?

Edit: That's precisely what F1 has been missing for a very, very long time. The ability for a champion of another series to jump into an extra car at a race just for the hell of it.

Wikipedia has an empty entry for "round 14" for Barracuda Racing. Someone is sure Tagliani is getting dropped.

The F1 equivalent seems to be rumors that Loeb/Rossi/someone like that will magically get a Ferrari drive every couple of years that never materialize into anything.

Well that's because factory LMPs tend to be lease deals. The Porsche RS Spyders were, no?

Not sure about those, but I know for sure that the Peugeot 908 that Pescarolo ran at Le Mans in 2009 was on lease, which caused a huge issue with insurance when the car was written off in a crash during the night (and indirectly bankrupted Pescarolo Sport). Pickett said repeatedly in interviews that he wanted to buy a LMP1 Porsche (as you could buy the 956/962 back in the 1980s).

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. I wonder if he'd consider WEC with a privateer entry. Actually, isn't there rumored to be an Acura/HPD LMP1 semi-works program coming on line at some point? Maybe there's a Honda connection here.

If I am reading this right.. Bia has made R$10 million on an investment?
Wonder if she will run any races next year?
Or buy a team or the series or a TV station or ...?

It's only about $4.4 million USD and change. Okay, "only" isn't the best term as that's still 4.4 million than I have, but can that even buy a seat for more than what she did last year?

Luhr wants to race full-time in Indycar: http://www.indycar.c...all-in-for-2014

Interesting times..with Davison, Filippi and others potentially joining or re-joining (in the case of Servia, Briscoe, Hildebrand) on the back of team expansion.

Bryan Hert Autosport bringing back J.R. Hildebrand for his home races in California. Good news for him, but I'd much rather see Filippi in the car full time. Before and after Indy 2011, I just think he wasn't working out. Outside an American with the National Guard backing him, he was just embarrassing on the track.

I wouldn't put the blame solely on Hildebrand for Panther's performance. They've been like that for years now (the last time they were championship-level competitive was with Hornish in 2003). Wheldon couldn't do a thing with their cars.

Hildebrand has a bigger chance to score sponsorship, but we know his results bring up questions about his pace as a driver, but saying that Filippi could be bringing money or at the very least has the potential to be better. Which would help bring in money to the team.

I'd take the one with potential over the known quality who might bring more money. But I'm not Bryan Herta and I don't know what his views as a team owner are. I know he didn't run a full time Indy Lights program because he didn't have the funds to field a competitive car. Could that apply to his IndyCar effort? Maybe? Depends on if he keeps Barracuda Networks onboard for next season.

Looking on the bright side, there seems to be so much support for the sadly misplaced Tags, perhaps Herta's doing him a favour by getting into Indy Lights.
Good shot at rehabilitation for him?
He's certainly not been up to the main event for too long now.

I think Hildebrand has more 'worth' than what is effectively just another GP2 guy. If it was Hildebrand vs European superstar that'd be a different argument.

I always thought going into 11 and 12 the other way after taking the oval T1 would be fun. A bit like Eastern Creek.

I'd say entering the banking at speed would be more spectacular, similar to how the BTCC race at Rockingham.

Turn 1 of the oval needs to be Turn 1 of the road course, for Indycars. MotoGP goes by it and uses the mini-infield in turn 1.

The way it is now is like DTM at EuroSpeedway. Completely takes away a much better overtaking point that what is currently available.

It's just weird that it took so long. I instantly facepalmed when he announced to go to Nascar, and I never got what was so attractive about fighting for position 23, if you could be fighting for wins elsewhere. Can only be about money.

Mmm, yes and no. Was spectacular, fantastic when in CART, but it's been a long time since he was in an open-wheeler.

And, if JPM wins races and/or a championship, do we really want to have Ol' DW talk again about how his NASCAR experience helped him become a better racer?

A better drive (Andretti) will help a lot, but Barrichello's experience is probably a good pointer to what Montoya's level would be in IndyCar in 2014.  I think he will be on the pace, no doubt, but he will need something extra to challenage the bedded in frontrunners for wins, let alone the championship.  Whether he still has that something extra remains to be seen.

This. I doubt Montoya would be able to dominate a championship given the competitiveness of the series currently.
