May well be tyre considerations in that choice, but creating a passing zone at turn 12 was the "official" reason.

No, it was slow mickey mouse crap, speeding up that section was a good idea.

That was the 8,9,10 complex at the end of the backstretch (still a good spot for photos, and to see how hard the f1 cars can accelerate from 10 to 11). 5 was a fast right sweeper under hard acceleration from 4, with an (aggressive) passing option into a left hand 180 degree turn 6, followed by another right sweeper (7) onto the backstretch. More than few overcooked it into 6, opening a pass inside, followed by a side by side run around 7 and down the backstretch for outbraking into 8. I watched Heidfeld directly in front of me on the 4-5 straight in a Sauber put the left rear over the curb, turn it sideways, slide across the grass inside of 5, gather it up on the 5-6 straight, and keep going. Probably never dropped under 90 mph.

Ganassi is switching to Chevy engines and has announced TK as a driver

wonder why Ganassi switches to Chevy. Honda is not that bad and next season the rules will change a little bit, so Honda sould be more competitive to Chevy and with the other big teams are running with Chevrolet, Ganassi would have been the favorite team for me next season.

I can't imagine, that it the reason is just the connection with Chevrolet at NASCAR.

Where could I find the leader circles championship? The car entrant points?

Ever thought about Hondas return to F1? They will use their best engineers and their funding on the F1-Program. So it's likely, that the Indy Car Engine will not be developed well enough. Understandable move from Ganassi in my opinion.

Indycar is handled by American Honda, they will and have been self-sufficient.

I think Ganassi went to Chevrolet for a few reasons.

-He thinks Honda isn't as competitive. I disagree but he's been grumbling for a while.

-Running Chevrolets in other series. The manufacturers subsidize their engines in Indycar but don't pay the teams. If you were a Chevrolet team in NASCAR and Indycar, you might get some extra money on the NASCAR side as a thank you...

Some interesting tidbits I saw over on racer.com:

Sam Bird is open to an Indycar move.

Trevor Carlin (of Carlin Motorsport) attended the Houston GP and said he'd consider running an Indy Lights team when the new chassis rolls out in 2015, with a possible step-up to Indycar itself.

And now Chandhok expresses interest in Indycar.  GP2 is sort of beginning to resemble a dead end, frankly...

And his current F1 ride is.... ?

You're missing the point, good sir.  Filippi, Daly, Bird, Chandhok, Aleshin, Razia are just a few of the graduates of the European feeder series that have toyed with the idea of going stateside.  This is going to happen more and more if the cash you need to knock down the door of F1 remains so ridiculously outlandish.

Not a huge fan either, but he was leading this race late in the going last year when his engine began to go away.

The way Lights has been going they'll be lucky to make it that long.

Not true since Dan Andersen took over management of the series. He's done a good job with USF2000 and Pro Mazda. He's been also been a team owner in the ladder series so he understands the situation from both perspectives.

Lets see...improved car count (including Conor Daly at Houston), new tyre manufacturer (oval and road course tests with the Cooper tyres have already happened), Honda\Chevrolet\Mazda interested in providing an engine, Mygale\Dallara\Multimatic under consideration for the 2015 chassis (paddle shifters instead of H-box will be part of the 2014 interim upgrades). The schedule will be adjusted to maximise visibility and reduce costs.

Car count has been really impressive. They've gone from 8 most of the time to 12 at Houston.

Andersen (when he was interviewed by racer) suggested there would be 16 full time for next year. Throw in part-timers and 20 per race is realistic. It'll take a year or two more to get back to 2008\09 numbers.

To be fair, those guys are s*** compared to Grosjean and Hulk and I'm not sure everybody cares who is bringing up the rear end.

Sam Bird is ****? I guess that doesn't say much for the rest of the GP2 field then.

It really doesn't.

Filippi and Bird are similar. Good, but not greats. They could do well in Indycar but are no great loss to the European ladder.

Really nice guy (And that's not just a cliche'!), who even let me hug his Indycar Drivers Championship trophy. :D

EDIT: Sorry folks.  I'm certainly challenged whenevr I try to post my Indy Car-related pix. Hopefully this works.

Racer dot com has big Penske man Tim Cindric's reasons behind Helio's catastrophic double gearbox failure in Houston. What caused it? We don't know! I think he's trying to blame the track though.

TC: Well the Saturday issue was a mechanical failure that I feel we could have avoided. Sunday's is still a mystery to us, because after the Saturday problem, we went through the gearbox and rebuilt it overnight. In retrospect you could say that maybe we should have replaced the whole thing, but at the time there was no indication that we should do that. So running two green-flag laps before the gearbox completely split in half…I struggle to think that he hit that big bump enough to cause such a major issue. But when we look at the gearbox and where it broke, it doesn't look like there was a crack that had been wearing; it just looks like there was a catastrophic failure. Common sense tells you that some point during the weekend it cracked and that was the final result, but the pieces tell you different.

So whether it was something that could have been avoided by Helio driving more on the left or whether it was something that was going to happen whatever line he took, I don't know. I do know that the end result was the same.

I remember Dixon stating after the race that he saw Helio go over one of the biggest bumps on the track and soon after had the veil of spray all over him. Dixon seemed to think the track and Helio's line is what did it, if I remember correctly.

I never loved or hated Page, mainly he's just recognizable as the guy who called the first race I ever watched on TV (1995 Indy 500) but somehow it seems like just after getting rid of Bob Jenkins, inviting another 70-year old guy to be the voice of IndyCar seems like a dumb idea. Happy to be proved wrong, though.
