What are chances that "Danicafan" is on a bus right now heading towards Danica's house with some roses?

Go for it Danicafan, it never hurts to try!

She's a huge fan and sponsor draw that is able to generate a ton of revenue. Over here racing these days is more about personality than sport much of the time.

"Money is the fuel of racing" (The late Jim Work, aka "Fueler" on some US forums, was in the track biz...)

I'd agree, her divorce isn't newsworthy.

True, but that is not the tone of this board, here girlfriends and tat's are analyzed so I don't think it wrong to mention her divorce.

When in Rome......

They are a viable team with a history. And the background of Team Stonefeld in Indy Car and ALMS is...?

To be fair, they do have a DW12 in the shop. But I was mocking the team-of-the-week that wants to do Indycar but isn't currently.

I understand, I was mocking the cavalier manner in which you presented it.

I don't think that fielding a car at this level of the sport; even if it is lacking fan interest, is an easy nor inexpensive task. From the "team-of-the-week" that you mentioned, a new full-time team may come about - that is surely a good thing, is it not?

"Want to drive race cars? Mingle with fans." should be the last word in everything.

And while we're on Indycar, I think they should run Indy downforce levels everywhere. It'd make the power-to-grip ratio more in favour of the cars being beastly, lower corner speeds, and make the braking zones a lot longer. Imagine how nutty the back half of Mid-Ohio would be without a lot of suction.

Agreed. Indycar this year really made a couple of ovals races much more exciting that they normally were, just by cutting downforce to the point where you have to drive the car yourself.

A thousand times yes.

I'm also sort of glad to read a "how to save Indycar" article that doesn't boil down to "do what CART did in the 1990s", which is probably the default emotional response for a lot of us.

I like the idea of trimming a lot of the downforce off the DW12's road course spec. At least test it. They don't look that fast round corners anyway.

Great idea.
In fact it would probably be fact already if they had not killed the aero 'kits' two years ago.
Sorry, verboten, all cars MUST be spec...too expensive for the poor owners. Other than Penske and Ganassi that is.

I agree, but we could do with less caution periods and\or better vehicle removal equipment. Barfield hasn't fixed either of those problems - especially at the street circuits in particular. I maintain that double file restarts are a dumb idea on the RCs\SCs.

Double file restarts are the best thing to happen at all tracks. There's no reason to get rid of them, that can't be fixed by the drivers looking after each other.

Did you not watch Baltimore? Several cautions were caused by contact on restarts. Even in F1 there are problems during the start with the field packed together. Why not mitigate that with single file, at least on street circuits?

Second race of the double-header weekends was supposed to be a standing start, let's see if they keep it now that Bernard has been ousted.

Because I want to see them race. They're professionals so it's their job to stay off the walls and each other. Look at the first race they did it (St Pete 2011 I think?) they were all over the place. Every restart was like a restrictor plate crash, but they learned and stopped doing it.

Interesting. You prefer a rolling start? I'd bet tht definitely puts you in the minority on this one.

The double file restarts are exciting but they really need to punish the cheaters - Tony Kanaan picked up 5 spots almost every time by just going early because he was smart enough to know that they are only watching the front two rows.

I prefer rolling start because its safer, more exciting and a 100+ year tradition. Don't see any reason why change it.

I don't think it's that much safer or very exciting at all. And Indycar is in a position to offer rolling on the ovals and standing on road and street.

I am all about tradition but standing starts on non-ovals are much more exciting. As sloppy as the rolling starts are they are not even fun.

As if anyone cares about the drivers! What we want to hear about are former CEOs! And new management! Oh yes we've got some of that news for you.

Former CART boss Andrew Craig rules out Indycar management role (the article also links to an excellent paywalled interview with Craig about the Split, conducted in 2008. It's good to have Matt Beer back on board.)

(Btw I also remember an interview from the "other side", I think it was in Autosport's journal, with some USAC high-up on the same subject. Can anyone help me out?)

(Srsly I don't think there's been a lot of movement with drivers. Peat's post on the sadly-neglected Indycar Silly Season thread needs a few minor updates but basically tells you what you need to know. Word from Cavin at the Indystar is that we should have a decent picture, with a few blank spots, by Christmas.)

The best thing about having Tony Stewart around the series would be his unvarnished take on the cars, racing, officiating, management, ect... His first stint in the series was during his early years, now that he has "**** you" money it would be refreshing to watch.

Tony has said in the past that one needs to be running this type of car on a regular basis to truly be competitive in it, albeit that was before the new car was introduced.

While he was fastest of the four Ganassi cars in qualifying for his last Indy 500 in 2001, he was the third Ganassi car home in 6th that day. Vasser and Junqueira were 4th and 5th respectively, while Minassian broke. While it would certainly be a big story for him to join Penske in May, I don't see him doing it.

Personally, I think to have such an offer would be nearly impossible to resist.

Sponsor of big-oval specialist announces big-oval prize. Conflict of interest, surely? ;)

Fuzzy's Vodka's PR department also wins Risil's prize for "Gee whiz, racing's really fast, ain't it?" category error of the year:

"Imagine winning at Augusta, Oakmont and Pebble Beach in the same year," said Indiana golf legend Fuzzy Zoeller, namesake of Fuzzy's Ultra Premium Vodka and two-time major winner on the PGA Tour. "Now imagine doing it at 220 mph."

Oh, they do, it wasn't an error in quantity. Just that the exact or even vague number of mph you're doing it at really has nothing to do with golf. It struck me as a slightly more imaginative version of the old "chess at 200mph" cliché.

Yeah we're doing Aristotle on this here Indycar thread that's cool.

There was an article I read about Conor Daly a week or two ago where he admitted that he had needed to finish in the top 2 of GP3 to secure his funding for Europe next year, and that the season had left him out of pocket. To be honest looking at that series, he's a decent driver but just not quite as good as the guys who were ahead of him. If he gets the chance to do even a partial Indycar schedule next year (big if, mind) then I feel he should grab it with both hands - F1 looks pretty unlikely on current form/budget and he could do very well in the States. If he wants to be a professional racing driver then it should be a no-brainer.

Makes sense. Sato's in that Conway category of having a little bit of money to stretch the budget on a 'sponsored' team.

Though the Sato-Foyt duet is one of the more unexpected.

If they have been able to double file start over the years, they can surely do it in 2012 and beyond. Time to dish out some stern punishments to people who cant manage it - will sor them out quick.
