IMS willing to adjust Indy 500 schedule if Tony Stewart wants in - Indy Star byline this morning:

They ought to adjust it anyway. You might then get others showing interest.

Moving it back in the day to 11am would keep me from having to sit in an aluminium seat hot enough to fry an egg and get everyone out of IMS before the tornadoes hit.

“I think the days of drivers showing up to Indianapolis and having a legitimate shot of winning without running the races leading up and having the testing is long gone,” Stewart said. “The (IndyCar Series) is so strong and so competitive.

“I will never say never, but I will say that I’m not taking him up on the offer this year.”

Oh no, not the annual "Major NASCAR driver will do the 500. Oh, no he won't!" story cycle. Hasn't this one been done to death?

They won't even be able to do a U-turn now as Randy has taken a job as CEO of a TV network. Real shame as he knew what he was doing and could have done it if had been given the time.

From this morning's Indy Star:

Bernard is expected to be announced as the new CEO of RFD-TV, an agriculture-based cable network based in Omaha, Neb.

IndyCar’s legal separation from the failed Lotus engine program should be finalized Friday.

Conor Daly was fitted for a seat in one of A.J. Foyt Racing’s cars in preparation for next week’s test at Sebring, Fla. It could lead to a full-time ride as Honda officials push for Foyt to run a second car. Takuma Sato is expected to sign for the other.

For a GP2 budget you could get a decent Indycar ride, if the team had some sponsorship. Like Foyt.

These days, maybe

But I was really thinking more that it would be easier for an American driver to find sponsors for an series with some kind of profile in the US?

Conor Daly said in an interview in order for him to get his funding from sponsors for GP2 he had to come in third or better. So he has lost all his European racing backing.

To quote the final paragraph of the article, "The announcement means that Chevrolet and Honda must now each be able to supply a minimum 60 per cent of the 2013 grid as per the terms of their agreement with the series."

Okay! MP's released a new Silly Season update on Speed dot com, so I think it's time for one of those beloved cut-out-and-keep driver/team rundowns. I've italicised the likely-to-be-confirmed and put question marks near the more speculative entries. Including, sadly, Rubens Barrichello. :(

21 cars confirmed, and it seems likely that Briscoe and Viso will get their acts together with one team or another.

Anyone reckon this Tony Stewart buzz might be a cover for IMS struggling to attract a full field of 33 entries?

Andretti Autosport (Chevy)
1. Ryan Hunter-Reay -- Sundrop/DHL
25. Marco Andretti -- RC Cola
27. James Hinchcliffe -- GoDaddy
Carlos Muñoz (Indy-only)
Ana Beatriz? (Sao Paulo? Indy 500?)

Team Penske (Chevy)
3. Hélio Castroneves -- Hitachi (9 races), Shell
12. Will Power -- Verizon

Panther Racing (Chevy)
4. John Ratclyffe Hildebrand -- National Guard

9. Dario Franchitti -- Target
10. Scott Dixon -- Target
83. Charlie Kimball -- Novo Nordisk
38. Ryan Briscoe? (10/12)
E.J. Viso -- E.J. Viso Industries?
Gustavo Yacamán?
(13/11)

KV Racing Technology (Chevy)

Clearly, it's for publicity, but...talk all you want about The Silver Spoons over in the NASCAR thread, or lament Chicken Boy there as well, but there has never been a driver more catered to than Mr. Stewart. Schedules massaged to allow him to add to his resume, getting to do all pre-season testing before anyone else received chassis, etc. Smh :well:

At this point, why don't they just put Tony in a car with a larger engine, restrict the engines in the other 32 cars and simply gift wrap the 500 win that so many around him so desperately want him to "achieve" They've already attempted it a couple of times, so it's not like it's unprecedented.

Better move for Rubens at this point in his career. Plenty of home base fan support, a good sponsor and none of the acrimony and drama that is ICS. I wish him luck. I'll start to follow the series, always liked Rubens. Bummer for ICS fans but I can't blame him.

I dunno wtf was going on either, but we've got some material for our next philosophy discussion group.

http://en.wikipedia..../Opaque_context

The term is used in philosophical theories of reference, and is to be contrasted with "referentially transparent context". In rough outline:

-- Opacity: "Mary believes that Cicero is a great orator" gives rise to an opaque context; although Cicero was also called 'Tully', we can't simply substitute 'Tully' for 'Cicero' in this context ("Mary believes that Tully is a great orator") and guarantee the same truth value, for Mary might not know that the names 'Tully' and 'Cicero' refer to one and the same thing. Of course, if Mary does believe that Cicero is a great orator, then there is a sense in which Mary believes that Tully is a great orator, even if she does not know that 'Tully' and 'Cicero' corefer. It is the sense forced on us by "direct reference" theories of proper names, i.e. those that maintain that the meaning of a proper name just is its referent.

-- Transparency: "Cicero was a Roman orator" gives rise to a transparent context; there is no problem substituting 'Tully' for 'Cicero' here: "Tully was a Roman orator". Both sentences necessarily express the same thing if 'Cicero' and 'Tully' refer to the same person. Note that this element is missing in the opaque contexts, where a shift in the name can result in a sentence that expresses something different from the original.

Well it's her own fault for having the full name Ana "Bia" Beatriz Caselato Gomes de Figueiredo :p

We should start calling her AB Gomes for a bit more confusion. Sounds more American.

Ana Beatriz Caselato, it's as easy as 1 2 3

In fact if you take her initials and add the "de", you get the first seven letters of the alphabet, or alternatively the diatonic scale. (C major, to be precise.) ABCGdeF. Spooky.

Probably not to that extent, though my piano has letters all the way to Z, I don't stop at G every time.

Looking back at the driver lineup from the previous page, all I could think about what how it looked like Indycar Racing II. With a few real drivers and a bunch of fillers that Papyrus invented to make a full field. I mean Chase Austin, Tristan Vautier? Next we'll have John Smith and Fred Jones.

There are drivers I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these drivers have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all
