Schumacher crashes again

Crashed in free practice 2 - clearly Michael does not know anymore where his limits are. He is driving this season in the way of Maldonado, Grosjean, di Resta (rare exception today), but they are youngsters - MSC is supposedly one of the best drivers in history.

Jackie Stewart is right in assessing that Michael's retirement is overdue.

I am amazed how many sentimental posts I have been reading in the last days here on the BB - people stating that in 2013 F1 does not interest them anymore, as Michael will not be driving anymore. While it is time for Michael to leave before some harm happens (to him or to others), the most fascinating point is that here we have an blatant example of idolatry, hero worship if you will.

The sport has always been greater than any of its drivers - F1 has survived the demise of Clark and Senna for example - and it can well do without Schumacher. So whoever will be not following the sport anymore is obviously more interested in one person than in the sport. Fascinating.

I'm wondering where I should start with this. Well... never mind. Welcome to my ignore list. I tried to reason with you for a very long time but after ignoring many arguments, backstabbing attempts and more I can't say it can get worse than this. You've earned your place my friend

You gotta make up your mind. Whether his agenda suits you, or not.

It's ok though, I understand. Stewart, just like you, has to channel his frustration.

Ah, what a fantastic story. Thanks for that Ali.

http://sportsillustr...cher/index.html

He and Senna have gone far beyond what respective drivers have done in promoting and donating to important causes.

Schumi's Five Minute Confession

Sort of Michael surprised Ross and Haug and i feel He just didn't want to retire this way or this year.

Pirelli's F1 boss probably didn't think this one through, but then, what else is new on Pirelli side?

yeah, let's each have fun with our own views :D

From what I've hear the change in engine specification you mention at Silvertone 1993 was a trade, Ford would give McLaren the lastest specification engine if McLaren would allow Benetton to use their traction control system. So from then onwards the engines in the Benetton and the McLaren should have been similar.

This is exactly what I know about it too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The things that makes me happy about Schumacher retiring is that I really don't like his from time to time clumpsyness.

For DiResta, that mistake was an one-off but Schumi made already too much silly mistakes in FPs and races even this year, not to mention the others.

He's far from being as quick as he once was, imho, eventhough that is still enough to be there with Nico. The super talent that was Schumacher is gone for a lot of time tbh, so we are loosing only a good driver, in the end.

But it's still Schumacher.

Well, of course I don't like to see my hero retiring but in the end of the day at one point it's time. The way he stepped out of the car a bunch of times after the race, sweat and stuff, it tells me/us one thing: he has been maxed out for the past three years. Due to two reasons: he grew older and any advantage of having a front runner car wasn't there, which made sure he had to go flatout. I'm proud to have witnessed that and disappointed that the results weren't coming.

At this stage of the season, I can imagine his doubts about continuing on this road. Both he and Nico deserved much more than this and it shows how hard it is to come out on top when you as a team are on a disadvantage on the technical side.

All part of his grand plan, he's going to get tyres designed to his demands and then make another comeback in 2016.

You aren't really siding with people believing Autocourse to be a "Senna fanboy's publication with 0 mechanics knowledge", or are you? Is there all shame lost and all allies welcomed these days, just because MS retires?

Just sweet talk, nothing much. You don't expect him to bash MSC before going to work with his buddy Ross and presumably a bunch of Michael's mechanics, do you?;)

Am I missing a joke? There are few folks on the grid who have a lot of genuine respect for MSC but imho LH is not one of them. I am not saying he disrespects MSC or anything but his body language at Monza and Monaco last year when clashing with MSC showed it all.

I think they were probably thinking about whether to do any qualifying laps at all, considering the car wouldnt go through to Q3 anyway. In hindsight, they'd have been better off just saving the tyres wth the 10 place penalty ! He starts last anyway

Didn't follow live timing, was his lap in Q2 the best he could've done? From what the commentators were saying, he was already 0.2 up on Rosberg after the first sector, so maybe he could've squeezed out a bit more in the next two, under ideal conditions?

Just to follow up, Rosberg's time does look better in Q2 by 0.2, so maybe that's where the Q3 time was left behind.

Anyway, still starting on the last row.

I think both messed up S1 but even a good S1 wouldn't have been enough for Q3.
The track probably changed by 1 degree and the car gave up. Or it's a piece of crap.

His Q2 lap was 0.5 better than his time in FP3, so yup, seems like it was the fastest the Merc could go around Suzuka

Michael just said host lost about 0.2 due to traffic from Hamilton in turn 11. So that solves it.

This. A thousand times this.

Again, when talking of finding the motivation to continue is lacking, days like today show why. Not a lack of personal pace, but a dog slow car showing the Brackley pattern of promise followed by mediocrity. I just wish he'd negotiated a swan song at Ferrari, or even Sauber (or even better Lotus) so the fans could say goodbye properly next year, and see him able to show just what he has left, and how good he can still be when not stuck in a directionless midfield mindset team.

I do find some irony that what was Honda (for a while) is now the new Toyota.

MIchael : had a bit of traffic in turn 11 (from Lewis :rotfl: ) lost 2 tenths. Difficult but maybe doable to get into Q3. From FP's he expected place 7-8 in quali but pace wasn't there in quali.

This is why Schumacher didn't re-sign for Mercedes, the car is really really terrible. He knows the facts about the team... Lewis only knows the dreams of the team. The fact is it's a shambles, the dream is the same with every team... that they're making progress. But they aren't.
