Never thought of that comparison but that is very true indeed

2 maestros who were prone to moments of madness but also moments of absolute brilliance, it's a shame that MGP did not uphold their end of the deal because they promised they would be challenging when Michael returned maybe not in the 1st year but definitely in the 2nd year, that never materialised and in this current 3rd and last year it's gone from promising to here we go again...

Yes, unfortunately we will never know what might have been.. :-/
Btw guys, I accidentally fell onto this today:

I had totally forgotten about that really intense qualifying session and i really enjoyed the video. Tbh 1997, 1998 and 2006 remain among my favourite F1 seasons despite Schumy losing the championship. Some amazing drives and fights in them.

No problem then, just opportunity? On the face of it, it sounds that way.

2013 Mercedes role still open – Schumacher | Nov 2

Michael Schumacher has admitted he is still weighing up an offer to stay with Mercedes in 2013 in a non-driving role.

The seven time world champion’s race cockpit next year and beyond will be filled by Lewis Hamilton.

Schumacher is quoted by Sport Bild: “There is certainly the option to continue working with Mercedes.

“After the season, we will sit down and discuss whether it makes sense for both sides,” added the 43-year-old.

Mercedes offers Schumacher new non-racing job | Oct 4

Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche has invited Michael Schumacher to stay in the Mercedes family in a non-racing role.
“My personal wish is that he (Schumacher) remains a partner of our enterprise after his active time in the Mercedes cockpit,” he is quoted by the Bild am Feiertag newspaper.

Mercedes’ motor racing president Norbert Haug is also leaving the door open for the 43-year-old to take up a different role. He and Zetsche have both said it was Mercedes’ fault that Schumacher failed to win during his three-year comeback period.

Yeah I remember their duels from that year.

Those cars just seemed unrestricted and not watered down like the current generation of cars.

That French qualifying battle was awesome. I forgot about those duels. That was when Champions were really Man v Man. It was war, it doesn't feel like war now. It's too tame.

The brawn interview on the BBC was annoying. Brawn saying there is more responsibility to build something not crap with Hamilton taking Michaels place.

Two-fault issue:

A) They should have sent him out a bit earlier for an extra lap
B) Michael had the KERS setting wrong.

Mercedes apologises to Schumacher and he apologises back saying he had the wrong "harvest" setting for his KERS.

Both drivers doesn't have chance for points tomorrow. In Q3 or not, result will be the same.

Really? Rosberg did a very good lap in Q3. Too bad Schumacher but more importantly Mercedes screwed each other over.

Did you see race pace? And there is 2 DRS zones.

I saw race pace. Michael's pace was way faster than Nico. It was just last sector where Michael was losing a second compared to Vettel.

And I'd say Suzuka.

Coz there was Spa and Monza which were very strong performance by Michael.

Lotus are faster, Sauber are faster, Williams too. Looking from FP2. FI probably too.

Schumacher has clearly mentally and emotionally checked out.

Getting confused with the kers is an indication of that.

Probably but who could blame him?

That said...what about his team? This is not the first time they have done this. Very poor all around. Two more races then I will check out my allegience with Mercedes also.

I suspect that Michael is worn out and rightfully so.

But, I do hope he will have a good final GP at Brazil.... Always good there.

I really hope not... From 1992-2002 he finished on the podium at Brazil, except for 1997, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. (and the Mercedes years).

its sad in a way but this thread reflects the reality of his career.

we as well as michael have given up on this car and its ability to produce anything and if it were lets face it, either the average pit work, poor strategy or reliability would end it anyways.

this thread barely moves now as we all accept the ending of a legends career with a whimper and not a bang

I too wish now it would all end but feel strangely compelled to afford him the respect of watching his final races

I think you're referring to this?

http://www.autosport...t.php/id/104000

Schumacher only managed 14th place on the Abu Dhabi grid, and television viewers heard him and his engineer apologetically discussing a "harvesting" issue.

Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn explained that this was not a technical problem, but an error by Schumacher.

"I think he got the engine braking wrong, what we call KERS harvesting - the way you collect the KERS and the way you use the KERS," Brawn said.

"It does affect the balance of the car, and he got a little bit out of sequence with it, and then he got caught out and lost some time in the first complex."

Schumacher added: "We were trying something different in the procedure and it just didn't work out."

Apologies were exchanged during qualifying via radio.

KERS aside, it doesn't explain why the team sent him out too late so he missed the qualifying cut.

Should be interesting to see how hard he defends against Vettel should they meet on track today. Personally and as a Schumacher fan I think he should just let him go, although it would definately collide with his (perhaps now weakened) professionalism. But there's no point in defending a backmarker place for Merc and at the same time preventing a friend from getting badly needed points for his championship.
