Well thats that then. The end of an era, and for me the end of the last slice of my childhood (I will never form an attachment to a sports person in the same way again as I did in 1991 when I was a young boy).

20th place and dead last, 45 seconds behind the next driver to 7th. Michael has not had the speed he had the first time round, but he's the same fighter. I am so proud right now. Well done Michael, and thank you for everything. I am so glad to have shared every moment of your passion with you. So glad. Thank you.

What an amazing race and such a sweet, sweet feeling overall. F1 without Michael won't be the same for me, just as it wasn't during his short time-out, but today is truly a good day, particularly seeing where we were ten laps in and where we finished. Michael deserved more than Mercedes could offer, but his spirit can't be faulted and that's what we have to take away from these last three years.

Thank you Michael, forever in our hearts!

F1 for me won't be be the same (like 07-09). But it was so much fun while it lasted.

What a waste of 3 years, shit mercedes.

ANYWAY, congratulations to Michael on a fantastic career, coming from someone who didnt always cheer for him (hakkinen and raikkonen), but who recognizes greatness, and the terrible, terrible waste the last 3 years were. And look at where rosberg was in this race...

Despite the efforts from the pit wall he managed to secure Mercedes 5-th in the WCC.

Bye Michael. Sure well be hearing about you whatever you do.

The great thing I've enjoyed about Aryton Senna and Michael Schumacher in the past 28 years, other then the great driving, success and entertainment, was the use of formula one state to state their thoughts on life, some drivers and personalities are able to draw you in, make you see their world, and when watching, you are more imersed, when Michael was quiet, you saw his fighting spirit on track, when Michael chose to speak about this team, he saw alot of team ethic, he wasn't pefect either, him or Ayrton, but that's why the fans keep on talking about them.

We didn't get to see the Michael we wanted in the last 3 years due the team/car, but once he realised he wasn'going to get it, he changed his expectations, realised he gave it his best shot, and took it on to see this contract through, and I've more proud of the fact he improved over the 3 years, because early 2010 was shakey grounds, this is not the formula one Michael left and returned too, he returned to a f1 that wasn't playing to his strengths, and his team didn't help either, but he still knew he couldn't walk away without trying to adapt and see it through.

Did anyone think iit was ultra cool and ultra ironic that Kimi and Schumi fought it out closely again in the SENNA S just like 2006? And he finished ahead of Kimi in the end, that was racing moment of the race I think, he got his moment

Fernando, remember Japan 2006 when you gave Michael a cocky wave after his Ferrari engine let go?

Michael just waved back by letting Sebastian through.

Hurts to say goodbye again especially as Mercedes didn't deliver the car that Michael's talent deserves.

He did all he could and I guess he'll have no regrets.

THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES MICHAEL!!

I'm glad that Schumi, at least, outclassed his team mate and pathetic car and took it to a good point's position, eventhough this return was 95% painfull to watch

Crappy Brackley team robbed what could've been 3 years of good racing by the old man.

I now desire a very happy 2013 for Schumi

I'm thankful to michael for helping the team to 5th. I'm a massive Mercedes supporter, but they sure as shit didn't deserve it. So sorry to see him go and ashamed that the brand I love so much contributed to him leaving. This was and will likely never be confirmed, but I just know it.

Have a wonderfull life michael.

The Vettel-Schumacher moment was nice but what was rather really poignant was the two of them, Raikkonen and Schumacher, coming into Senna S in exactly the same sequence as they did in similar circumstances 6 years ago. An example of true racing and both not giving away an inch due to sentimentality. Loved that, and just a thought, who'd have thunk it, Schumi and Raikkonen in exactly the same circumstances 6 years later and yet Michael finishing ahead of him in an inferior car.

Anyway, the last 3 years was a chance to say goodbye to a true legend. See ya Schumi!

Great race from Schumacher despite a puncture. Shame the Raikkonen move was the reverse of 2006! But still, solid race in very changeable conditions. The car wouldn't have given any more to anyone.

He showed he fights to the end not half arsed but fully (minus letting Seb through but that's a different story).

A champion from day 1 to the end. I will miss him from every race I watch from now on, stuck with him through the great and the not so great. I'd have loved to 2010 to 2012 to have been a great winning success, it's a shame it wasn't but I was so glad we got him back. I'd wished for that so much!

We squeezed every viewing second from Schumacher now, he can retire completely knowing he did it until the very end and was good enough to compete with the best.

Forza Schumi! Danke Schumi!

Lol. The irony.

So when he fights tooth and nail for every position he is dirty and when he lets someone through he is shameful. Bloke can't win.

It was going to happen anyway, Schumacher didn't want to tangle with Vettel in the poor conditions, plus they're great friends. It's a parting gift - one Vettel would have taken anyway judging by their speeds at the time.

Yeah and i think he would have done the same thing for Alonso considering the conditions. Being 2sec/lap slower and engaging in a fight with potentially disastrous results for a WDC contender would not be a nice farewell at all. Vettel didn't even need that position after all.

Just to this issue, I was quite amused that at the start, you saw Raikkonen veering off track to avoid a collision with Vettel. And then comes Senna...! :D

I really loved that maneuver between Michael and Kimi, even though the latter was successful - it just went to show that Michael can still very well race wheel to wheel, it's just that you need two to do it.

An Era has ended but thanks MS!!

Twenty-one years I have watched you from that memorable day in Belgium. I have followed you thru all those years & you have trully made F1 memorable for me. I hoped more from the 2010-12 but the car was a dog. Nevertheless, the ups & downs of 1991-2006 were more than enough! Happy retirement.

vettel is his friend and he's been in a lot of championship fights to know how this works. People try to stay out of trouble at moments like these (unlike stupid senna)

Webber finish 4th if you remember. Team didn't "retire" him because even 7th was OK for Vettel. Did you see how Vettel pass Rosberg in the beginning? This was the chance Michael have against him.

Did you see the pace difference between the cars?

Even if Michael had fought hard, the best he could have done was slow Seb for 5-6 corners and risk a crash, can you even imagine the forum meltdown if Schumi had taken him off? I'm all for Michael fighting hard but really, there was little to gain from it there.

Shameful? Seb was about 2 seconds a lap faster and off line was slippery as hell. What exactly would have been the outcome/benefit of fighting it?

Michael put in a great drive fitting of his experience and the remainder of his skill, and this is all some people have to say about it? Shameful indeed....
