Swedish television interviewed Alexander Rossi during FP2 and I was only listening with half an ear but I'm pretty sure a Caterham test next week was mentioned. That of course is no surprise for anyone.

Kevin Mirocha is to test for Carlin and iSport. He drove for Ocean Racing Technology in 2011 without scoring any points, but given that his budget only stretched to a F2 drive for 2012, I don't think he is a serious consideration for any seats next season.

My Indonesian is not great, but it seems that Rio Haryanto will test for DAMS and ART at Jerez. It's been rumoured that Haryanto will be at DAMS next year, so maybe this is them evaluating him prior to offering a contract.

The article said that he will test for DAMS on Thursday and Lotus on Friday. Although people believed that he will stay at Carlin, it's because at that time other teams haven't opened up. What you can be sure is that he will get a ride (at least they are sure that they will get a ride).

Haryanto to DAMS would make sense, as he drove for them in Auto GP.
But I also think he will stay at Carlin, alongside Felipe Nasr.

All the testing announcements coming in now:

Addax to test Jake Rosenzweig and Alexander Sims. I can't see Sims in GP2 next year, he's struggled for money historically, and has never quite delivered on the promise he has. When the season starts he'll be 25, which would make him one of the older drivers on the grid.

Arden will test Mitch Evans and Adrian Quaife-Hobbs on day 1, and Johnny Cecotto, Jr. and Adrian Quaife-Hobbs on day 2. I've got Mitch Evans pencilled in at Arden already, but could an Arden seat be likely for Quaife-Hobbs too? Or am I reading too much into him doing 2 days testing for the team?

DAMS will be running Marcus Ericsson and Rio Haryanto on day 1, and Mitch Evans and Stéphane Richelmi on day 2. I had assumed that Ericsson might go to Formula Renault 3.5, given that he's been around GP2 for a while without coming too close, but he's claimed that 'top teams' are interested in acquiring his services, so maybe Ericsson to DAMS in the hope of doing a Valsecchi? I see Haryanto and Richelmi as reasonable prospects for seats at DAMS.

Disappointing, though he seems optimistic that he will be testing and driving in 2013 (presumably for ART).

Delighted that Sims is testing in GP2, he's bloody quick and talented. Was leading the GP3 championship last year at the 1/2 way stage but a combination of incidents and the Status car falling off a bit killed off his chances, he comfortably beat team mate Da Costa too(not saying he's better before someone jumps on that! Just he "deserves" a chance at GP2/FR3.5 level IMO). He's never been blessed with money. Far, far worse drivers have made it further. Like others have said i can't see him getting a budget together for a full season but i've still got my fingers crossed!

Daniel Juncadella will be testing for Rapax again. Source. If I were a betting man, I would say Juncadella will be driving for Rapax next season.

Caterham are testing Alexander Rossi and Simon Trummer.

Stefano Coletti ‏@stefanocoletti
Landed in Sevilla! Now on the way to Jerez with @fabioonidi for 2 days of gp2 official test!!!

Stefano Coletti and Fabio Onidi will both be testing. Coletti will presumably be testing with Rapax, maybe Onidi is too?

Julian Leal is the other man testing for Trident.

EDIT: I didn't think Coloni were testing, but apparently they are.... Source. I don't Italian very well, but I think the details are as follows:

Kevin Ceccon will test with Ocean again.
Daniel de Jong will test with Coloni for two days, Marcus Ericsson for one.
Fabio Onidi will test for Rapax.
Kevin Giovesi will test for Lazarus again.

So, Ceccon to Ocean and Giovesi to Lazarus next year?

Nasr faster in the morning and Ericsson faster in the afternoon.

Didn't know Nasr was testing for DAMS.

edit: He wasn't, just a mistake in GP2 site

he was supposed to test at Jerez. But he tweeted "A change around at LotusGP. I won't be testing at Jerez this week. The team have some analysing to do over the two days"
But he announced that he will test for sure before the new GP2 season.

So we have to wait.

What's with Ocean?

Reading between the lines of what Ramon Pineiro said on twitter ("Rap up from today! The problem is that ocean is tight on money we all know how this sport works so it is not their fault... Just trying help") - they're out of money. I believe they're only at Jerez because they're contracted to attend, and will pay a fine if they don't. Maybe they won't be in GP2 next season, which could mean there will only be 11 teams on the grid.

Here's my Lustigson-style attempt at ordering this silly season. Drivers are ranked within teams by how likely I think they are to get a seat.

DAMS
Team Principal: Jean-Paul Driot
Rio Haryanto (tested with DAMS at Jerez; has backing from Indonesian sponsors; drove for DAMS in Auto GP in 2011)
Arthur Pic (tested with DAMS at Barcelona; drove for DAMS in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2012; has Lagardere backing)
Marcus Ericsson (tested with DAMS at Jerez - might be going to Formula Renault 3.5 though)
Mitch Evans (tested with DAMS at Jerez; GP3 champion; Eric Boullier is a personal investor)
Stéphane Richelmi (tested with DAMS at Jerez)
Sergey Sirotkin (tested with DAMS at Barcelona; 3rd in Auto GP in 2012)

Lotus GP
Team Principal: Frédéric Vasseur; Nicolas Todt ; Technical Director: Guillaume Capietto
James Calado (current driver - may lack funds for another season of GP2; hinted at by Calado)
Daniel Abt (tested with Lotus GP at Barcelona and Jerez; drove for Lotus GP in GP3 in 2012; hinted at by Calado - may be replacing Bottas at Williams though)
Aaro Vainio (drove for Lotus GP in GP3 in 2012; managed by Nicolas Todt - yet to test for the team though)
Rio Haryanto (tested with Lotus GP at Jerez; has backing from Indonesian sponsors)
Jolyon Palmer (tested with Lotus GP at Jerez; has backing from MotorSport Vision)
Sergio Canamasas (tested with Lotus GP at Barcelona)

Arden International
Team Principal: Christian Horner; Garry Horner ; Technical Director: Julian Rouse
Mitch Evans (tested with Arden International at Barcelona and Jerez; GP3 champion; drove for MW Arden in GP2 in 2012)
Adrian Quaife-Hobbs (tested with Arden International at Jerez; Auto GP champion)
Johnny Cecotto, Jr. (tested with Arden International at Jerez; has backing from Venezuelan sponsors)
Simon Trummer (current driver; tested with Arden International at Barcelona)

Marussia Carlin (may be losing Marussia backing?)
Team Principal: Trevor Carlin ; Technical Director: Colin Hale
Felipe Nasr (tested with Carlin at Barcelona and Jerez; has confirmed he will not be at DAMs next season; drove for Carlin in Formula Three in 2011; has backing from Banco do Brasil)
Rio Haryanto (current driver; tested for Carlin at Barcelona; has links to Marussia and Manor; has backing from Indonesian sponsors)
Johnny Cecotto, Jr. (tested with Carlin at Jerez; has backing from Venezuelan sponsors)
Ramon Piñeiro (tested with Carlin at Jerez)

Racing Engineering
Team Principal: Alfonso de Orléans-Borbón
Nigel Melker (tested for Racing Engineering at Jerez and Barcelona)
Fabio Leimer (current driver; tested for Racing Engineering at Jerez - may be off to DTM though)
Facundo Regalia (tested for Racing Engineering at Barcelona; has backing from Argentinean sponsors)
René Binder (tested for Racing Engineering at Jerez)
André Negrão (tested for Racing Engineering at Barcelona)
Gianmarco Raimondo (tested for Racing Engineering at Barcelona)

iSport International
Team Principal: Paul Jackson
Jolyon Palmer (current driver; tested for iSport International at Barcelona and Jerez; has backing from MotorSport Vision)
Sergio Canamasas (tested for iSport International at Jerez)
Facundo Regalia (tested for iSport International at Barcelona; has backing from Argentinean sponsors)
Pål Varhaug (tested for iSport International at Barcelona)
Kevin Mirocha (tested for iSport International at Jerez)

Caterham Racing
Team Principal: Riad Asmat ; Technical Director: Humphrey Corbett
Alexander Rossi (all but confirmed; tested for Caterham Racing at Barcelona and Jerez; Caterham Development Driver; drove for Caterham Arden in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2012)
Simon Trummer (tested for Caterham Racing at Jerez)
Lucas Foresti (tested for Caterham Racing at Barcelona)

Barwa Addax Team
Team Principal: Alejandro Agag; Iganacio Muñoz-Alonso ; Technical Director: Chris Murphy
Jake Rosenzweig (current driver; tested for Barwa Addax Team at Barcelona and Jerez)
Adrian Quaife-Hobbs (tested for Barwa Addax Team at Barcelona; Auto GP Champion)
Alexander Sims (tested for Barwa Addax Team at Jerez - probably lacks funding)

Rapax
Team Principal: Gianfranco Sovernigo; Andrea Bergamini ; Technical Director: Marco Gadola
Stefano Coletti (confirmed)
Daniel Juncadella (tested for Rapax at Barcelona and Jerez; FIA European Formula 3 Champion; has backing from Astana)

Trident Racing
Team Principal: Maurizio Salvadori ; Technical Director: Luca Zerbini
Stéphane Richelmi (current driver; tested for Trident Racing at Barcelona and Jerez)
Julián Leal (current driver; tested for Trident Racing at Barcelona and Jerez)
Sergio Canamasas (tested for Trident Racing at Jerez)
Marcus Ericsson (tested for Trident Racing at Barcelona - might be going to Formula Renault 3.5 though)

Ocean Racing Technology (might not have enough money to complete another season of GP2)
Team Principal: Tiago Monteiro; José Guedes
Kevin Ceccon (tested for Ocean Racing Technology at Barcelona; drove for Ocean Racing Technology in GP3 in 2012)
Ramón Piñeiro (tested for Ocean Racing Technology at Barcelona and Jerez)

Venezuela GP Lazarus
Team Principal: Tancredi Pagiaro
René Binder (current driver; tested for Venezuela GP Lazarus at Barcelona)
Kevin Giovesi (tested for Venezuela GP Lazarus at Barcelona and Jerez)
Kevin Mirocha (tested for Venezuela GP Lazarus at Jerez)

Meritus GP (has applied to compete in GP2 before; former GP2 Asia outfit; team principal was at the test in Barcelona)
Marussia (rumoured to be setting up their own team once the deal with Carlin has ended)
Stefan Grand Prix (former F1 applicant)

There's a long wait now until the next tests at Jerez, which will take place on the 26th, 27th and 28th February.

Suspicion creeps in: maybe Marcus Ericsson doesn't have the money to compete in any series in 2012. Could it be that he's spending his last pennies testing just to get the attention? The hype on his fan website certainly appears a bit desperate.

Be a shame as he was just starting to look like he was going to make it. Mind you, he was the same last year and then fizzled out :well:

He had a bad start of the season, his ending was really good - top point scorer counting the last six races I think. Personally, considering his youth (he's 22 fer crissake!), I'd give him one more year but that IS the last hurrah.

I see no other Swede which the sponsors may switch to in the close future, perhaps Felix Rosenqvist (second in Macau) so I think his money is safe for now, if Olsberg hasn't given up on racing completely though.

Did Ocean perhaps overstretch themselves by expanding into GP3 this year?

I don't know what to make of Ericsson - he looked so good in his early FBMW days but the GP2 just hasn't been strong enough in recent years for anyone who is supposed to be that good not to be regularly challenging at the front. Especially in their third year.

I think the years he's spent in GP2 is what is more of an issue Henrik B, not his age. Although rightly or wrongly (and yes, there are arguments for the latter), 22 is not that young anymore for a junior driver.

Jimmy Eriksson won German F3 this year, but he's 21 and German F3 is the only thing he's ever won, so I wouldn't look to him. There's just not the same depth of talent in Sweden as there is in Finland at the moment.

MP Motorsport enter with De Jong as first driver.

Well de Jong is a bit "meh" but I suppose they have to hire one of the home team :well:

Well in better driver news, Nasr has signed for Carlin. Out of all the times to announce that, they chose now.

Why the hell they decided to go for a complete stealth announcement?

Anyway, let's see if he can repeat what he did in F3.

GP2es, the unofficial Spanish language twitter about GP2 says that Ocean Racing Technology is up for sale. Looking unlikely that we'll see them in 2013.

EDIT: Just a thought, MP Motorsport have an existing relationship with Manor in Formula Renault, so maybe Marussia will not renew the Carlin deal, and instead link up with MP Motorsport.

That's assuming that Marussia are even interested in having a GP2 presence now that Chilton has (presumably) gone.

Daniel Juncadella has been given clearance by his sponsors to drive in GP2 Series next season, but he says if Mercedes DTM team make him an offer he'll go there instead.

I think they might, i suspect in 2014 Tio Ellinas will go to Marussia's outfit as one of their drivers.
