Facu Regalia is meeting with Argentinean sponsors in anticipation of a GP2 seat next year. Apparently Uncle Bernie is keen to see him in GP2 (I don't know why), and is also keen to have the 2013 GP2 season end at Termas de Río Hondo (really don't know why).

Really? Didn't know about that. Termas de Río Hondo was going to host a MotoGP round next year but it was boycotted by Repsol. A major revamp has been made to the circuit and now I understand it's the best in Argentina (even better in terms of infraestructure than Potrero del los Funes; Río Hondo's major said in an interview that it was now the best in South America, but I don't know how much the guy knows about this). As a lot of money was invested by privateers and the provincial and national goverments perhaps they are looking for alternatives to replace the MotoGP round (thou Dorna secured that there will be a race there in 2014)
As for Regalia, it's obvious the guy is aiming to GP2 for next season, I guess that maybe Varlion's money is not enough for this expensive series and he needs extra support. Maybe the guys of the Velociudad complex who support (the clearly more promising) Eric Liechtenstein will give him a hand (actually they had a few words with Esteban Guerrieri, thou Guerrieri said it was nothing really serious. Esteban's problem is that he's too old now)

EDIT: Oh, I found something else about Regalia. He says Racing Engineering and ISport are his biggest chances and that Dams has showed interest in his situation.

Sounds like ART Lotus or maybe DAMS to me. Who else is there in GP2/WSR that is French?

Take Stefan off - it has never been a real team, and it just looks daft mentioning them in any respect other than as a failed PR effort.

Out of curiosity, since I don't feel it's worth setting up a thread for this if there's no information, when are we likely to hear the GP3 lineup for next season?

Barely a few weeks before the season starts. But expect to see lists of 7 drivers linked to every team.

I could speculate. If they hadn't pulled out of GP3, Mücke Motorsport would have been a good fit - well funded, established motorsport outfit already in GP3. Maybe it will be Michael, but I don't see it personally.

Some seats are already confirmed - Eric Liechtenstein (3rd in British Formula Ford this season) will be at Carlin, Samin Gómez Briceno will be at Jenzer. It's expected that Carlos Sainz, Jr. and Daniil Kvyat will drive for MW Arden, which would be a very strong lineup. I think Jack Harvey's looking to enter, most probably with Carlin.

Los próximos pilotos de Venezuela GP Lazarus serán Venezolanos

Giancarlo Serenelli, Rodolfo González... Johnny Cecotto, Jr.? Even less likely, Bruno Palli, Francisco Cerullo, Jorge Goncalvez...er... I had assumed that Binder or Giovesi would be in one seat, but their recent announcement suggests two Venezuelans.

EDIT: English language tweet this morning confirms two Venezuelans at Venezuela GP Lazarus next season.

Ceccoto has more or less worked himself up to competent these days, though your chances of getting into F1 after four seasons in GP2 are nowadays, it seems. But the others... barrel.bottom.scraping.

Indeed, any hope of Lazarus building themselves into a decent outfit this season seem to have been undone by nationalist sponsors! They're clearly struggling for money. I think Giancarlo Serenelli will probably be one of their two drivers, probably alongside Rodolfo González. Johnny Cecotto I think is capable and rich enough to buy a better seat on the grid for 2013, probably at Addax again? But maybe he'll go to Arden, to make up any financial losses they absorb by taking Evans on.

I've got nothing against sponsors specifying a driver from their own country generally, as long as he's a decent prospect and not some untalented kid with good "connections". But sometimes you just have to accept the talent just ain't there :well:

every grid needs some comedy aspect ;)

but yeah, I hope that MP Motorsports don't just use drivers because of their nationality. Yes, they have de Jong, but i think he deserves another shot..he wasn't hopeless like the Venezolans ;)

Not according to Nicolas Dura or Arnau Vinyals:

Kevin korjus pourrait passer en GP2 des 2013 ou rester en 3.5 car selon lui la gp3 serait un pas en arriere

Which, I believe, translates as: "Kevin Korjus could enter GP2 in 2013 or stay in 3.5 because according to him GP3 would be a step back".

And after two seasons in Formula Renault 3.5, I would be inclined to agree that GP3 would be a step back.

With the new car I don't think it is. If you can't afford GP2 it's a tough call.

I would say the new Formula Renault 3.5 car is about the same as the GP2 car performance-wise, but the GP3 car isn't as good (as it's not designed to be). And if Korjus does have the money to do a season in GP2 or GP3, then I would say it was fairly clear which he should chose (unless it's a choice between Ocean in GP2 and ART in GP3). I'll keep him rumoured until I hear conclusively that he is not doing GP2 next season.

Yeah but you include everyone.

GP2 is at least twice the cost of GP3, so it's not a choice of one or the other. GP3 and World Series are much closer in cost. The question is do you take your chances in GP3 and being under the noses of the F1 teams or try to get the F1 tests that come out of WSR.

What is Frijns going to do? Any chance of him promoting to GP2?

Unlikely, i think Sauber might put him in for a few FP1's so that could rule him out of GP2. I think he might be in for a Bottas-esque year of no racing, i fear for him if thats the case as he's only been in single seaters since 2009, that not much experience!

Not according to Nicolas Dura or Arnau Vinyals:

Which, I believe, translates as: "Kevin Korjus could enter GP2 in 2013 or stay in 3.5 because according to him GP3 would be a step back".

And after two seasons in Formula Renault 3.5, I would be inclined to agree that GP3 would be a step back.

Believe me, I'm Estonian, so I have more reliable sources ;) He did an interview to Estonian Television, where he said that GP3 is a strong option for next year, he didn't talk about GP2 at all: ( http://sport.err.ee/...54-73cb12123a2f ) Doubt you can understand the language, but added it anyway.

I also hope he will do some races, I'm not expecting him testing for Sauber very much.

The best scenario for Frijns would be racing GP2 and doing the FP1 in the weekends without GP2, like Australia, Japan, USA, ect.

I'm saying it again, he is not going to do GP2 next year. 100% sure. He's aiming for GP3. Another year in WSR is very unlikely. He doesn't have a budget for GP2, because Gravity reduced significantly their backing.

Jolyon Palmer's confirmation at Carlin allows me to narrow this down, and means that Carlin have the first complete lineup.

A Nasr-Palmer line-up at Carlin makes me doubt a continuation of Marussia's association with Carlin.

Ocean's in a public spat with the Portuguese state, claiming missing payments of 6 million euros from public funds. Yes that's right our taxpayer money was going straight into a GP2 team. No wonder we're in a ton of debt and with the economy increasingly defunct.

Great for Calado! Most impressive GP2 driver this year, looking forward to seeing him win it in 2013. Exciting prospect. And it should be interesting vs. Abt, if his seat is confirmed!

Seems RSF saw sense and kept him on for an extra year. He's shown more potential than Turvey did so it seems logical.

Hard to see past him for the title, great news for GP2 that he's staying on. I don't think Abt's got much of a chance against him in his first year but if he's confirmed then it will be a great line-up for Lotus.

Happy for Calado, big ol' for RSF.

I'll be very surprised if the title isn't between him, Nasr (Carlin looked good in Chilton's hand this year so i can't help but think they'll be in with a shout) and maybe one other experienced driver.
