Just thought I would collate result sheets I have before they disappear forever.
Only have four Bemsee CP events from 1968-71.
2nd September 1968 http://media.wix.com...d05299e5a17.pdf
2nd September 1969 http://media.wix.com...8b9ba1e89b3.pdf
31st August 1970 http://media.wix.com...6cc49d571a2.pdf
4th September 1971 http://media.wix.com...a5286adf386.pdf
Who ran the CP Easter events also how many M/C events a year were there?
If anyone is interested in club results 66-71 I've uploaded other sheets to David Riley website who has kindly added a results section http://daveriley.wee...sults-page.html . Majority of events were Bemsee with the other clubs they cover Brands 67-71, Snetterton 67-70, Cadwell 66-67 and Thruxton 68 & 70.

Great stuff Jim, keep it coming, i'm fascinated by the old Palace stuff and have just spent an enjoyable 20 minutes reading through those results

31st August 1970 my first national meeting on my Ariel Arrow - lapped unfortunately.
4th September 1971 2nd meeting on my Aermacchi Mettise - which misfired all meeting - change everything, finally at home found the spark plug cap to plug lead screw corroded. Snipped 1/4 of an inch off and hey presto.

At the Sep '71 meeting I recall Butcher whistling past to lap us on the drop down on to the back straight, maybe 20 mph quicker? I have equally legit excuses for wobbling about at the rear but theyre too embarrasing.

Hadn't realized Martyn Ashwood was a qucik rider, his name never seem to pop up when I thought about all the quick ones. Expect there are a lot on here who know his track history.
Posted 19 August 2017 - 18:24
Im surprised to learn that Martyn held any records at the Palace or anywhere else. He was clearly no mug but from memory he wasn't often up front, certainly in the mid sixties at least. Having said that he seemed later to have gone ok on a Mettise framed Triumph. I suspect any quick Palace laps were achieved on this bike, late sixties/very early 70's maybe? By the early seventies though all sorts of hotshots were rocking up at the Palace with factory triples etc, ergo any record of Martyn's would have been pretty short lived.

I see that Tony Godfrey was entered in 1972 on a 998 "Blitz".
I'm guessing a Vincent of some sort?

Russell are you going to put back your missing pics in this section feeling a bit lonely.

Yes Tonys' Blitz was indeed Vincent powered.
I never seemed to have much luck at the Palace (and I needed plenty of it)
I raced a total of three machines there. An Arrow racer, and Aermacch Metisse, and an ex-works 672 BSA. On the day all ran like crap. I put it down to the poor air quality, London smog which was still prevalent in the far off years I rode there.

In my book of excuses it is the least used.
Martyn Ashwood was a great short circuit rider of the time not only at the Palace but Brands and Lydden were places he excelled..

I think I remember that shot Bill. Wasn't it at Thruxton? And if its the shot I'm thinking of, didn't the caption say "here's someone who wished he'd stayed at home and dug the garden"!

Yes that's the one the look on his face don't know how he got to be in that position .I remember Gary Lingham racing Ashwoods G 50

Did Pat Mahoney replace Mick Andrew who was down as riding the Gus Kuhn Norton?

Not sure on the chronology of when Mahoney joined the Kuhn team - after Mick Andrews' death sounds right though. Convention dictates, Jim,
that punters have their worked marked and any necessary corrections highlighted.

Well, on the first part correct, yes it's Charlie. Behind Ashwood is Degens then Ditchburn CP Sep 69.
2nd part (bit more effort required) apparently in 1970 (69) Pat Mahoney and Charlie Sanby joined Mick Andrew and the Gus Kuhn team.
It appears in the early production event Mick had crashed and injured his back/legs so was unable to ride in this event; Pat was given the ride on No.6; Charlie was already listed on Kuhn Commando.
Mick Andrew was killed in a road accident April 1970 aged 24.
