Last year da Cost was one win from being champion even though he lost 3 weeks (5 races) and finished 60 points ahead of Magnussen. This year with Frijns, Bianchi, Bird and Yelloly gone the expectation was that he would easily grab this championship. He still can do it, but certainly will not be easy.

Guys, I thought it was very strange that neither the crash directly after the start at Eau Rouge was shown, nor the crash in the last stage of the race between Jafar and Sainz. Is that a new policy for tv-directors or something?

I think it's because they don't have a lot of camera's. The cameraman at Eau Rouge followed the leaders so it had to turn away. Than the crash happened in the back of the field so it was impossible to show it. Maybe the same thing happened with the crash of Jaffaar and Sainz.

At least you saw the latter two disappearing off to the side of the screen...

another big shunt at eau rouge! Does every driver think they are Webber or raikkonen?

The Moscow Raceway (even though its 60 miles from Moscow, that's like calling Silverstone "The London Raceway" since its about 60 miles from London!) always has dull races, without fail!

Good win for Stoffel, solid race from Ant and a shame about K-Mag's penalty, no idea if it was deserved as haven't seen the infringement but that's taken a chunk out of his lead, its shaping up into a great 3 way fight though!

To be fair to the track namers, Moscow Raceway is in Moscow Oblast, so it would be more like Silverstone being called Northamptonshire Raceway.

Ah good point, didn't know that!

Stoffel on pole again, Da Costa down in P13, he's having a bit of a hard run right now it seems.

Obviously yesterday AFDC was hampered by exhaust issues (without which he could well have won the race), but his overall performance in 2013 has not matched his stellar end to 2012. While there are undoubtedly other factors at play, I wonder whether the pressure of expectation has got to him this year. Stoffel Vandoorne has looked very impressive in his debut season, I hope that we'll see him in Formula One soon.

Well, after the two races @ Moscow, it is Vandoorne that leads Magnussen by 3 points. Impressive double domination by Vandoorne and Da Costa is way back by like 50 points in the standings. I still believe he can change his fortune.

Move in 9th place, but did he do his drive throgh penately for jumping the start? If so, then that was very impressive...
is there an investigation about Nato's last-corner-move?

What a week for Vandoorne. Pole, win and fastest lap in both races and his two main rivals didn't score in one of the races.

that ~50 is more like 26, not a tragedy, especially if they copy last year's second half.

Not sure where you got 26 from, its actually 47 points between Stoffel and Da Costa!

damn, it seems the wsr homepage is still showing the pre race2 standings.
Pos	Nat	Driver	Total
1	DEN	Kevin MAGNUSSEN	115
2	BEL	Stoffel VANDOORNE	111
3	POR	Antonio Felix DA COSTA	89
4	GBR	Will STEVENS	66
5	NED	Nigel MELKER	64
http://www.worldseri...es/Default.aspx

now 47 points is another matter. not impossible, though. :)

Nothing.

Deadend for 2014 being a McLaren junior driver.

Yeah I agree, they wont step in for 2014. Which is not bad, they're still not ready I think. But when Jenson retires, will 1 of them step up or will they find someone outside

Button will remain at McLaren. Perez will be found less than hyped, however regardless of how McLaren brought Hamilton in to F1, then neither Kevin or Stoffel are seen as clear enough 'can not miss' talents for McLaren to take them in to F1. So both will either have to find a budget and race with another F1 team, or they will need to find their future racing career in something which is not F1.

The McLaren connection will not mean anything substantial for either of them in terms of becoming F1 drivers, and except for Hamilton I do not think that McLaren junor drivers have really ever thrived.

I would like the facts to be different, I would like to see reality playing out differently than what I post, but I have a hard time seeing that.

It would be a bit idiotic from McLaren to cut off Magnussen and Vandoorne at this stage when they're delivering (and both of them!). I understand there's not a lot they could do from here, but maybe they could fund a GP2 season even if we all know how expensive that is. Or maybe they'll pick one of them to keep on funding, and drop the other.

Supporting Felix da Costa has been a bit depressing this season, he still has front-runner pace no doubt but things keep happening to him, and to add insult to injury 1 of either Kevin or Stoffel (taking turns) seems quicker every weekend. With JEV and Ricciardo both also taking turns at impressing for Toro Rosso, I'm starting to become slightly apprehensive of his F1 chances which seemed almost taken for granted a few months ago. Still think he's gonna make it but it's not as clear cut now.

The problem with Magnussen and Vandoorne will be the same as with Frijns: No money, no F1 seat.
And second: There are just 22 F1 seats (20 years ago there were around 40 seats), so it's nearly impossible to get the seat, especially because the drivers have longer F1 careers than in the past.

So money and time is important.

Why wasn't Foresti driving on Sunday? Wasn't the car ready or was he injured?

Before the season I had expected Da Costa to completely dominate it so he has been slightly dissapointing to me but he still can come back. Vandoorne: what he has done so far is nothing short of amazing. 4 wins in 9 races for a rookie!

How did Frijins fare at this point last year compared to Vandoorne? He was a rookie too, from what I remember.

He was leading the championship as well after Moscow, which was also the 8th and 9th race that year. He had a few points less though (111) but still had a 10 point lead over Bird and 26 over Bianchi.

So pretty brilliant banter on twitter between current and former WSR drivers, Rossi pretty much "owned" Da Costa! Starts at the bottom.

Frijns had 2 wins.

Only other driver with 2 wins in those first 9 races last year: Nick Yelloly!

Sadly that is probably the truth. Even if they don't become complete PR robots one day they'll make a comment or do something small which the press will jump all over them for and they'll soon put a guard up and end up rolling out the mundane answers. A shame but that's how it goes.

He looks pretty promising, there's a lot of young kids around who all looks pretty talented, Jakes Dennis, Oliver Rowland (talented but a late starter, already 20! :p ) Anthoine Hubert, Matt Parry & i was going to say Nyck De Vries but he's had a tough start to the year.

He had a good first season, especially considering how tough the competition is in the Eurocup but he seems to have gone backwards so far this season, very worrying.

da Costa must be close to out of the championship now. Shame for him, sounds like the car was in bad shape this weekend which is not good at Red Bull's home circuit.

Sirotkin has some talent.

That's been apparent for a while, he's just getting rushed up the ladder far too quickly, the kid is already 2/3 years ahead of were he should be IMHO, next year if he gets the Sauber drive i'd say probably 4 years to soon if he had a proper junior career behind him.

Kimi managed it but that was in the days of 90 odd test days a year!

Wow, it's been two bloody months since the last race and I forgot who was where in the championship. Hope Da Costa and Sorensen have a good weekend.

With the weather being rainy & cold here over Central-Eastern Europe I think there's a possibility we'll see a wet Hungaroring race. Rare.
