Someone in Chile is selling an old press photo on Ebay that is stated to be Pedro Rodriguez's funeral - The scan of the image is not very good, but I was trying to recognize the drivers standing at attention around the coffin:

http://www.ebay.com/...=item416929804e

The photo caption on the back has a dateline of Nuremburg - Pedro's funeral was in Mexico city, I assume? If so, this is some sort of wake, not a funeral.
I assume the drivers are his Interseries competitors from the Norisring event, but I'm having a hard time with ID's - Leo Kinnunen was there, but he does not appear to be in the photo.

The guy in the uniform in the background appears to be more German rather than Mexican.
Sorry, no idea about the drivers.

All a bit before my time but here is a list of all the participants in Pedro's last race, afraid I can't help with the identity of any of them.

I believe Georg Loos, Jo Bonnier and Herbert Muller were all given to wearing facial hair which would appear to eliminate Bonnier who had dark hair, Peter Gethin does not appear to be one of those present either.

I wonder if one of those in the photo was fellow 512 M driver Marsilio Pasotti who raced under the "PAM" pseudonym ?

I agree it looks like the photo was taken before his coffin was sent to Mexico for burial.

The picture was taken at the Nürnberg Municipal Hospital's chapel on Tuesday 13 July. The drivers guarding the coffin were touring car drivers that drove in one of the support races of the 200 Miles race and members of the Motorsport Club Nürnberg.
One of them was Heinz Weltrowski who drove an Alfa Romeo Giulia.

Thanks Luc, I was wondering if you would know! That explains why the drivers are not recognizable "big names".

Just wondering about his accident, where at Norisring did it happen, and what caused the crash? I watched a short film on youtube from the race, and at the end there was a car burning badly (Rodriguez I presume) at what looked to be near the start/ finish line.

The accident happened at the entry to the first 90 degree right-hand corner in the 'Esses' section. The article by Nanni Dietrich in Rodriguez's entry at Motorsport Memorial:

http://www.motorspor...php?db=ct&n=206

says that the accident happened because Kurt Hild, a backmarker, moved over on Pedro whilst being lapped. Others believe that Hild was not to blame, and the cause was a mechanical failure on the Ferrari 512. See the discussion in these earlier threads:

Although the car ended up at the entry to the 90 degree right hander, I believe the main impact occurred when it hit the parapet of the birdge where the track crosses the Hans Kalb Strasse. Isn't there a plaque there commemorating Pedro ?

Yes indeed - poor choice of words on my part. Thanks Chris.
