Cut the BS, what do you expect him to say?, the car was crap, the title is over?, get real. If he want to be over positive in the worst day, it's his problem, you are mature enough to understand why he is saying that.

You gotta love "the Ferrari fans" twisting the knife, when he has done amazing race after amazing race all the year, and at the end of the day we all know that the problem it's the car, not 2 or 3 bad qualifying sessions, if that's what you think.

He's already said the car is crap or at least inferred so. And this is really no different to some of the criticism levelled at Ferrari about being incompetent and what not by Alonso fans. He could have started P4/5 tomorrow and at least given himself a chance but I'm afraid that after this qualifying performance he has complicated his chances even more than it already is.

Is it really so hard for you to admit that Alonso was crap.

Exactly. How some people don't understand this yet beats the hell out of me.

Have you not noticed that the one and only reason F1 is F1 and has survived as a sport is the concept of appreciating the super-human driving efforts of the individual drivers. The brands and manufacturers and sponsors is just for the passing fans who like the glamour and show and can't empathise with the actual driving skill element, If that's you then carry on. Its all about the driving every thing else is a bit part given attention purely for the show.

Alonso flattered the car most of the season but here its clear that the car was not to his liking. It's quite sad that we have the driver but we are not able to get the car ... Alonso mult have been really lucky in 2005 & 2006 having a proper car to fight for pole's and victories. I think he forgot the feeling :-) This year was the biggest struggle for him in years ... he fought all year long in an inferior car and kept the fighting spirit ... he gained my respect this year more than all the previous year put together.

Oh here we go.. normal positions crap again.

Not sure if he's being delusional or if he just doesn't care anymore. Or he's made peace with the fact that Vettel needs to DNF for him to have any chance at all, so starting from P4 or starting from P9 it doesn't make a difference if Vettel keeps finishing P1.

You really are a dreamer, aren't you?

My personality has nothing to do with this topic.

With a good start he would have had the chance to try sth at least. Of course I am fully aware of the fact that Red Bull has the fastest car on the track....

Nope, it's a team contest, involving unique cars as well as drivers, and you make compromises between speed and reliability in the car. So a car failure is not a 'bad' way to win. It's an intrinsic part of the contest.

Wishing that someone breaks down as opposed to wishing that someone drives better is pathetic no matter what excuses you can think of to defend it. Next thing you know you'll be wishing one of the protagonists falls and breaks their arm so that your man wins! Typical sad internet forum comment.

Problems warming up the tires, it seems they could have used old q2 tires for q3 trying to fix the problem.

Then most probably they would have problems in the race.

It's not as far-fetched as you make it out to be. Alonso had two poles, but overall qualifying has not been fantastic all year. Sure, today was slightly worse than recently, and you might put that on him if you want, but the average grid position has been: (12+8+9+9+2+5+3+11+1+1+6+5+10+5+6+4+5+6+8)/19 = 6th.

Massa's is (16+12+12+14+16+7+6+13+5+13+7+14+3+13+10+6+6+8+6)/19 = 10th.

Yikes, well that was painful, unless we get a new track chaotic race then I think that is that.

But, as ever, we will see on Sunday.

Well. He needs to know something else we don't or he's a true believer till the end, this is racing after all.
Remembering the us gp from 1980 where Reutemann puts his Williams on pole but finishes 8th with a very very slow pace in the race and losing the championship to piquet 6th in the race..
No matter what you need a great tough spirit to say things like Alonso says.

Great sportmanship

Massa did quite well today and the Ferrari will have better relative race pace. A good start might be important and the RBR error with Mark might get Alonso the clean side of the track.

How come Ferrari brings updates race after race and they still can't close on RBR/McLaren? Hardly updated Lotus give them hard time..

Tomorrow Ferrari should be better but still sucks on one lap pace

I'm hearing noises that both Ferrari drivers might have used the same set of tyres that they used in Q2. If so then it was a big fail.

I have a feeling it will be an old Bridgestone race. The longer you stay with worn mediums the better...at least for everyone except Red Bull.

Qualifying is going to be painful. There is a high chance of Vettel on pole and Alonso in 6th or 7th. Which should turn this thread into a disco funerary.

Even if Sunday things are not that bad and Alonso recovers to have a living chance for Brazil, I think this Saturday is going to be the worst day of the season for all Tifosi.

So what is the news today?

He is not an asshole he is trying to keep the team's morale until the end, this is what a real fight does ... doesn't matter if the fight looks lost already, keep the chin up and fight till the end.

It would be much more easy to fell for despair and lamentation, but that's what 99% of you are doing all the time, the car is shit, we cannot change that but the way Alonso is behaving is fantastic.

I am an Alonso fanboy and I can say he failed today, I don't know if a little bit or a lot, he failed. But I don't see the point for someone to try to convince the rest of the forumers about this.

The others bring updates too. And the Lotus actually had big ones to the exhaust over the past races.

I agree with those who say that if we somehow win* this title then we would not have deserve it.

As a team** we dont deserve it. As a driver Alonso deserves it as he gave it everything he has got.

* Probability of happening is highly unlikely.
** They would have deserved it based on performance during mid-season, but after that it has been all talk: "we have to push every race" but no results.

I hate to be facetious, but Hitler believed he could win the war even when the Russians were encircling Berlin. Sometimes our premonitions and convictions are simply wrong. Up until almost today I also had a weird sense that fate had marked this title as Alonso's. I've now changed my mind and I think there's a high chance Vettel will take the title tomorrow.

Ferrari idiots, lost this WDC. Alonso should have two titles there by now, instead zero.

Even if Vettel retires both races, this car is so crap Alonso still won't be able to overhaul Vettel.

I may be a cynic but I feel safe that the FIA will make sure that any chance for penalty decisions that presents itself is used to make the WDC more interesting.

Yes. If they can penalise either Webber or Schumacher it would move Alonso up to P7, which puts him on the cleaner side of the grid (supposedly a big advantage here) and would greatly increase the chances of the WDC going down to the last race, which of course benefits "the brand" of F1 immensely. I'd be kind of surprised if it doesn't happen.

Blocking in Q2? Came on. And Michael is not fighting for title now, so different situation.
After Webber penalty, if Michael get penalty Alonso will go on dirty side again. :rotfl:
