http://appleinsider....rd-of-directors

If you are a Ferrari fan, this should be the best news you've heard all day.

I wish McLaren could have gotten him.

Waiting to find a more credible source, but big news for Ferrari nonetheless.

Ferrari and Apple have had a good working relationship for a long time.
As said in the article, LdM Nd Tim Cook had a interesting meeting earlier in the year, and they are both world recognised brands.

This could be a very good partnership for both.

The powerful combination of Apple and Ferrari does not strike everyone else here as a huge competitive advantage for Ferrari?

You're going to have to explain to me why having an Apple guy on the Ferrari board is going to do much for the F1 car.

And starts to claim copyright on everything, then suing anything that looks anything close to an F1 car.

Was funny how Ferrari lost out to Ford on the F150 trademark.

Alright, so explain why this is interesting.

They might get the Apple Maps team to work on the simulator. That would be interesting.

This has nothing to do with F1.

Ferrari's raison d'etre is F1, so if he's joining Ferrari's board it has, by definition, everything to do with F1.

Personally I loathe Apple products (iPhone & iPad anyway, Mac computers less so). Sure, fabulously simple to use and with un-cluttered designs, but, they do lock users into their own little world. Great for people who don't have a clue about using technology, but frustrating for those of us that do.

Perhaps Cue's arrive will mean future Ferraris have just one gear-shift paddle instead of two? :)

They are going to update the Acer ducts to Apple ducts, which will give a crapload of downforce.

So when Mercedes or McLaren come up with a very useful technical feature it will take years for Ferrari to implement it, yet they will act like they invented it when they start using it?

Nothing to do with F1, everything to do with in-car gadgetry for road cars - net access, sat-nav based on Apple maps (!) and so on. Maybe instead of a steering wheel, they will have a screen that you swipe your finger across to steer...

Introducing the revolutionary magical 2013 iFerrari F1 car. We made it slightly longer and changed the shade of paint ever so slightly. This changes everything.

To all the skeptics - first of all I said I was waiting for a more genuine source to post and have not been able to do so because I've been swamped at work and school. Secondly, how can anyone not think that adding a successfully entrepreneur from Apple will not improve the culture of innovation at Ferrari?

If the tone from the top embraces innovation, which I feel is critical to the success of any F1 car, then this addition to the Ferrari Board is a huge win for Ferrari.

When people think about companies like Apple and Google, innovation is their heart and soul. With Ferrari improves its innovation from their Board of Directors, there will be a trickle down effect.

The heart and soul of Ferrari is F1.

The heart and sould of Apple is Innovation.

A new wave of innovation has entered F1. Advantage Ferrari.

This isn't 1970.

The companies are separate, there might be some trickle down effect for some dumbed down versions of F1 parts to road cars.

An addition to the Ferrari board of directors makes zero difference for Scuderia Ferrari.

Wow, how blessed they are. All those bored, unstimulated engineers at Ferrari. Not making the most of the potential or opportunities provided by the Scuderia and Formula 1. Thank god someone from the computer world is here to show them the way.

so wait, ferrari will soon re-release the F60 with a USB port this time (at 35% markup)?

If there is any trickle down effect it will be pure marketing and maybe some fresh money for Ferrari to spend. Or you know, your F12 might include an itunes enabled media center or something. But in practical terms there is no wave of innovation from the guy that's in charge of the itunes store and the icloud service as far as the F1 team is concerned.

C'mon, give him a break, Luca di M just wants another plutocrat to play pool and write ridiculous press releases with.

Yeah, one new guy on the board of directors really isn't going to do anything to the Ferrari F1 team. Directors from different sectors sitting on multiple companies boards is a fairly common occurrence.
