It's better but the only MotoGP bike they are really beating is Bradley Smith and they are slower than Sepang 1 test

They were only beating Smith because he had a big crash during the session and lost lots of time.

The Ducati really MUST improve this season. Dovi was saying that everything needs to change.

I'm feeling bad for him, but it's looking like Spies really has 'jumped the shark'.

You could be right about Ben,he was so good a few years ago, what happen, waiting for the season to get going to see if he's got that fighting spirit because he did quit a few times on the Yamaha.

Ben is slower than he was compared to the first test? I was aware he was having problems with his shoulder, but surely they could not have gotten any worse?

If he was lacking any confidence at Yamaha, he must be absolutely shattered trying to ride this Ducati with a privateer team. I think it was a pretty dumb move to make. He would have been better off heading back to WSBK. His talent is being wasted in MotoGP at the moment.

Also, Bradley Smith isn't look all too bright, which for me, isn't unexpected. I think thats going to the most wasted competitive ride in MotoGP this year.

He's matched the performance of Cal Crutchlow's first test. Same gap to the front.

This is the 2nd test.

And here's the times from the 2nd test last year:

http://www.motogp.co...epang Test 2012

Crutchlow was much more impressive.

Dennis [Noyes] calculates that Jorge did 91% of his 34 laps in the 2min 1 or 2 flat bracket. Dani 64%, Cal 47%, Vale 56%, Marquez 52%.

Only 5 riders got down to 2min flat: Jorge 17 times, Dani, four times, Cal, Vale and Marc once each.

My bad. Brainfart.

Looked at 2011 and yea, does seem Crutchlow was about where Smith is in the same period of time. Alright, I wont write him off just yet.

He only ran 36 laps, so the shoulder must still be a problem. He'll be ready by Qatar.

To be fair - it's no surprise he's quick, but he is proving to be very quick straight-away.

If you compare Bradleys time defecit of 1.3 sec to his non-alien team-mate and then consider Marquez gap of < 0.1 sec to his alien team-mate and Championship favourite, then I would say its very impressive.

Although setting it on the last lap of the test points to it being an all out banzai lap.
I'd be inpressed if his average lap time is within 0.3 of Pedrosas or Lorenzos

You couldn't argue with somebody saying he is in 2013. He was very strong last year.

But kosmic is right, Marquez only dipped under 2:01 on his last run. Pedrosa did it on several runs and was a fair bit quicker on average.

Rossi is actually a good deal slower than Lorenzo on average as well. This test today especially. Crutchlow actually looked quicker than Valentino.

Well Rossi has said today he fears the top three are too quick for him. It will remain to be seen if he's bluffing or if he really does feel there is a gap there.

Why would he bluff? It's perfectly reasonable on raw one lap pace he isn't going to be matching the young guys.

In the races it might be different, but I don't think he's sandbagging

I think he's reasonable, but he will be them eventually.

Pedrosa was briefly a title favourite in 2011 after Estoril. But I don't think he ever entered a MotoGP season as the one guy to beat. It was always either one or more of Rossi, Stoner and Lorenzo.

My sometimes hazy memory is telling me that Rossi generally was never at his strongest in pre-season tests but regardless I dont think there'll be anything to split the 4 factory Japanese bikes when we eventually get to the 1st round

Well, if the Honda's superior to the Yamaha he'll be favourite, if not he's probably 2nd behind Lorenzo - but just carry on being pedantic. :well:

That seems true. It was either in 2009 or 2010 in which Stoner totally dominated testing and suddenly Rossi was much stronger when the season started.

It was 2009, which was the 'mystery illness' season for Stoner. Rossi dominated 2010 testing.

We will see, Lorenzo was already getting the better of him in 2010. Now we are 3 years further and Lorenzo is at the top of his game. So is Pedrosa and now we also have Marquez around.

Rossi will find it very hard this year, marquez will make mistakes but will be fast and Lorenzo and Pedrosa will be faster then Rossi most of the times. It wouldnt surprise me if he managed to get a win or two but unless something strange happens he will get beaten a lot this year. He had his time at the top.

Could explain these comments and they have switched from Suter-BMW to FTR-Kawasaki

"In the case of CRT the long-term goal is to maintain the visibility on track even in the case of suffering 'inconveniences' [in the short term] and create a team that has an appealing format for a prospective constructor that might eventually become interested," said Cuzari, speaking during the team's official launch in Milan

It'd make for some fantastic racing and provide manufacturers (other than Honda) with a proper opportunity to groom the next Bradl's and Marquez's in the lower ranks
