I would recommend you look the little upstart heading FP2.;)

Edit: I agree with you though, imo Yamaha is working on race set up already.

Barring unfortunate circumstances, I think this should be an easy Yamaha 1-2. Marquez is putting in some quick times at the end of the session, but Lorenzo and Rossi are in the 1:56's throughout the session pretty comfortably. I think even Crutchlow could give Marquez a hard time in the race. My prediction:

Lorenzo
Rossi

Marquez
Crutchlow
Pedrosa

Bradl
Bautista

Dovizioso
Smith
Hayden

Iannone
Spies

CRT's

This qualification system is awesome. Makes Free Practice wayyyyyyyyy more competitive.

Anyone know if the Eurosport broadcast is "live" or highlights? (I know it's delayed but,)

They always show the whole thing, even though delayed. I think I will miss out the BBC coverage and wait for theirs on Sunday.

I also like the new qualifying system from yesterdays evidence. Will have to see how it goes tonight, 15 minutes is not that long though I wonder when the first person will deliberately be outside the top ten so they get more time on Saturday to set the bike up or get more track time?

Not sure how to call the race, Yamaha's look mighty but could be a real scrap with the Honda(s)

Indeed, especially when compared to his team-mate.

Looking at stint times however Rossi and Lorenzo both look very good.

I'd be careful about the Ducati though. It always did like a dirty/green track. Ramp up the grip and it can't cope.

Fastest 10 throughout the practice sessions go through to Q2. Everyone else fights in Q1. The fastest 2 in Q1 go to Q2 which then the fastest times determine your grid position.

This is done so the slower field gets their own quali, and the faster bikes don't get held up so much. Apparently safety was a factor as well.

and go to http://www.motogp.co...ents/Qatar/2013, on the right click "local time" and it will tell ya

Don't forget the TV time the bottom half of the grid now get, makes it easier for them to sell sponsorship now.

It's quite interesting... makes practice a tad bit more entertaining; to say the least. Nice idea they have.

Thank you. But if the practise sessions determine wich drivers go to Q2, why would the fast guys still have to qual in Q1? Edit: nevermind, I get it now. English is not my first language and it shows. ):

Motogp live timing and tv direction is hopeless. I really have no clue who is fast, where, and what intervals they are/arent beating.

Lorenzo
Crutchlow
Dovizioso killing a Yamaha and a Honda    You legend!

But this was the last motogp qualifying for me. Total waste of time, clueless who is fast where and live timing even more prehistoric than F1 live timing. I hope the race is better.

Looks like both Honda and Yamaha's new hirings underperformed a bit in qualifying, their pace has been better than what the grid shows.

But Dovizioso has been impressive all weekend, hope he goes well tomorrow too.

Dovi on a bike that effectualy hasnt changed from the 2012 bike, being 4 tenths behind Lorenzo is more than any Ducati fan couldv asked for. :) And yes, both Honda and Yamaha couldv signed Crutchlow. I understand Rossi was a lure, but Marquez over Crutchlow was a bad move. Im not that convinced of Pedrosa too. Could be a hard year for Honda and with such a great bike thats a real shame.

One full second is still a lot, even by Rossi's standards. Not sure this new format suits him though. No time to warm up.

He's not washed up in my opinion, its just harder for him as he is up against a new breed of riders that are a lot better than those they supercede, Stoner being the exception.

Rossi had a little off-track excursion with his first set of tyres apparently, then got stuck in traffic with the second. Anyway, like I said, his (and Márquez's) pace is better than what the result shows.

IIRC, Rossi used to have issues with his starts, not his qualifying. He'll be up there tomorrow, he just better be sure Lorenzo doesnt run away.

Dovi beat Crutchlow last year, I believe, and Dovi was usually well behind even an injured Pedrosa when Dovi was at Honda. Not real reason to think that crutchlow would do any better than Dovi. You would be nuts to pass up Marquez for Crutchlow.

Oh god.

Anyways, I dont expect the race to finish anything like the grid looks now. Rossi will move up. Marquez will move up. Dovi will drop.

EDIT: Also really like the new qualifying. Its gotten me to care a tiny bit about the CRT's. Just a bit! It also means we're not waiting around for 40 minutes before things finally start heating up. I hated watching qualifying before but I can get into this.

And Spies - man, I know he crashed in the last practice session, but geez, its hard to watch.

Maybe. I wasnt Cals biggest fan but he impressed vs Dovi last year imo. And the speed hes shown this weekend vs Marquez on what is probably the fastest bike in the field id say: signing Marquez was a mistake.

Dovi did beat him but i think Cal was just as quick if not the quicker of the two on more occasions than not, he just kept binning it! It should also be remembered they didn't have the same spec bike from Estoril onwards, Dovi had better brakes than Cal! It was also only Cal's 2nd season at MotoGP level, its was Dovi's 5th, i think Cal probably has more potential than Dovi to be honest.

3. Marquez

Lorenzo DNF, crashes trying to get rid of Rossi.

As good as Lorenzo is and as much as Marquez looks to dominate the sport for years to come... this race will mark THE RETURN OF THE KING.

Nothing shattering about Rossi, he will be up there for sure tmmrw. Yamaha looks real good.

Surprised at Ducati/Dovizioso but doubt they have race pace.

Point taken. :) But sofar I cannot subscribe to the hype, and see Crutchlow on a Tech 3 bike being real close to the top dogs, in fact beating both Honda guys at least over one lap. I really think Honda made a mistake.
