Not sure if this is the right place to put this but anyways, had dinner and went to a club with Jorge Lorenzo tonight. Chatted a lot about Rossi, Pedrosa and MotoGP in general. I don't think it's a good idea to reveal too much of what he says here so I'm just gonna say that he's a really cool dude, quite shy and reserved and very mature for his age. MotoGP test starts what, on Tuesday? But he already isn't drinking any alcohol in preparation for the test. Very professional and disciplined. I will be at the test on Wednesday so if I find time I will report to you guys what I see.

It turns out Yamaha are not screwing Cal after all, sadly no one is testing the seamless shift box in Sepang.
There will however be new frames to test in an attempt to eliminate the pumping issue and new engine options that will improve acceleration

WSS have 35, but 2 or 3 years ago it was also less then 20 with the same rules...

Rules are OK, but the uncertain situation about the rules/WSB are bad, and the situation of the Paginale (in this moment it seems weeker than the 1198) also cause a miss of some possible private/satelit entry.

+ the grid is thin, but more than a half of them a potential race winner...

Not the same rules at all, after 2010 and the very small grids, WSS switched to only one bike per rider, limited number of engines ... Can't remember all the changes but they reduced the costs a lot.

So far it's Marquez from Rossi. Even the test riders are faster than Hayden, Pramac amongst the CRTs

Tis gonna be a great season for Honda, I tipped Marquez for glory after his stunning ride in Valencia and how well he handled the bigger bike in the test afterwards.

yes he is, from their press release at the end of last year

For the next two years the LCR Team and the German rider, with direct support from HRC, will continue the productive collaboration, which began this year and saw Bradl taking the “Rookie of the Year” Award.

@M_Turco: Rossi said he feels younger now after 2 years with Ducati.
@M_Turco: "The Yamaha M1 is a lot better than in 2010, said Rossi. 1000cc is good for a 4 in line, and Lorenzo and his crew did a gool job."
@M_Turco: Rossi : "I understood today that Marquez will try to win the MotoGP title this year."

So did Yamaha test their seamless gearbox?

Since they won the title last year without those, I'm eager what they can do with the seamless gearboxes this year, at the hands of dynamic duo riders.

You were a bit late then. The rest of the world tipped him for glory about half way through his first season in moto 2......

Really not looking good for Ducati :|

Trust the eyes, not the heart!! A number of us trusted what we saw in Moto 2, and knew Marquez was something very, very special. But right on the pace in his second test?

I guess I was wrong, when I said he'd definitely win multiple races this year... if this test is anything to go by, he may well be a factor in the championship, although it's still early days.

I find it hard to believe that Yamaha is this competitive without seamless shift, though. My guess is Pedrosa probably wasn't fully up to speed?

Got back from the track a few hours ago. I didn't try to observe the behavior of the bikes too much because I was hanging out at the back with some friends. Just a few observations:

- I guess it's easy to tell which bikes are quick as you can see on the timing sheets
- Rossi was quicker than Lorenzo early on. In fact he was almost immediately on the pace. Lorenzo wasn't feeling too comfortable at first and while the rest of the Yamaha team broke for lunch around 1pm, Lorenzo and his crew pressed on. He looked either stressed or totally focused, it was a bit hard to tell. In contrast, Rossi looked totally relaxed and was snapping pictures with guests at the paddock area while walking to his motorhome. I got a pic with him too. Will post it if anybody wants to see.
- Lorenzo was one of the riders to do a random drug test. I guess FIM does random checks from time to time.
- I asked a Yamaha mechanic whether they're using the seamless gearbox. He wouldn't tell me.

Sorry I don't have anymore info.

Speaking exclusively to MCN, Poncharal said: “I have not been informed officially by YMC (Yamaha Motor Company) that we will have or won’t have this new gearbox. I even don’t know that gearbox is ready to be used by Lorenzo and Rossi.

Sorry Gilles but I cant see anything in that article that actually says that Yamaha definitely didnt bring the new Gearbox to Sepang.

But maybe i'm just illiterate so sorry for asking a question on a forum.....

That article was linked for "It turns out Yamaha are not screwing Cal after all". It's headline is "No new Yamaha gearbox for Cal Crutchlow?" and the opening line is "Cal Crutchlow could get an early reminder of the downside of being a non-factory rider in MotoGP in Malaysia next week". It was published on 30th January and written by Matthew Birt. I am sure you would agree that based on the actual quote that the story is a bit of a spin.

On 4 February Matthew Birt tweets: https://twitter.com/birtymotogp
Rossi and Lorenzo have new M1 frame options and engines to test, but no new seamless shift gearbox here in Sepang
New Yamaha frames is attempt to cure pumping issue and engine options are designed for improved acceleration.
Crutchlow has modified M1 frame to try and new engine spec. Motor seems to be end of '12 factory spec used by Lorenzo and Spies

Hence my comments at the time

Yesterday:
Craig Robertson ‏@ValentinoMossy
@birtymotogp yup, have the yams got the seamless shift box?

Matthew Birt
‏@birtymotogp
@ValentinoMossy I was told no by Wilco Zeelenberg. interesting to hear Lorenzo on that 'cos it was main request

They can't test in Japan because it's too cold and neither in Europe/Spain because it's too far away from HRC's and Yamaha's headquarters.
