According to the BBC text commentary Schumacher's Mercedes caught fire, probably for the best.

Maybe the back end has melted and created a great diffuser.

The track looks very nice. Reasonable attendance also I think for a Friday first session.

Yes, I also have problems with F1 live timing.

At least this tracks looks a little different to all the other new ones we have had recently.

On some shots it does but a lot of it the coloured runoffs, tarmac and astroturf just fill the shot and you could be at any Tilkedrome :/ I love the high speed corners and the elev change though.

Probably Schumacher's mistake, and we will read about it on RC later on.

The corners need names. I nominate "Damon Hill" for turn 1.

For those that have Sky Sports, the live timing on the "Race Control" part of the website IS working.

Those Esses (and the huuuuge straight, for that matter) remind me a bit of Riverside.

Turn 1's much too slow to be particularly exciting.

Hamilton is mighty in the middle and last sector, which is where everyone else is losing so much time to him.

The temps are completely in Ferrari's favour this weekend... remember the cold European races where they were awesome!?!

Waaaaaay too early to draw any conclusions. Even FP3 won't be conculsive, track temp will be higher for qualy and the race when it really counts not to mention its going to rubber in massively.

New track is getting tire compounds embedded in. Too early to draw any conclusions. Times should get faster and faster as the weekend progresses

Circuits looking good, I especially like watching the cars going through the fast succession of corners after turn one. Can't wait to see some racing on Sunday

Also, is the Sky onboard feed ahead of the main one? I was watching the Hamilton onboard with a clear track while the small screen showed him stuck behind several cars

Vettel needs to improve upon his S1 time. He is down 0.4-0.5s on that sector alone to Hamilton and Alonso.

So you're saying it's too early to draw conclusions on who Vettel is fighting against in this weekend? ;)

yep...but I wonder if its possible that Vettel used a 2nd set of hards while LH did not.

LH is losing 1 sec to Vettel in the 3rd sector alone.
